HTC Vigor!!!

As far as I'm concerned, I don't care what processor it launches with (although most likely the MSM 8660 clocked at 1.5 GHz, sorry Krait and OMAP fans) I just want it to be released in October/November. For once, let Verizon actually launch a phone when it's appropriate and not a year behind all its competitors.

If Verizon honestly believes that any of the current Android offerings, including the Bionic which released today, will be able to stand toe-to-toe against the iPhone 5 and create more business then they are sorely mistaken. I stand by my statement that I believe the Bionic will be obsolete within 2 months of being released as it's comprised of mostly last year's tech. You don't spend an additional 9 months on a phone because it was right the first time. It's time to wake up and listen to the consumers who are spending their hard-earned dollars for what at this point is only a "network", while other carriers are releasing much more exciting and desirable phones (SGS2 for example) in the "appropriate time frame".

I have to agree with you here. The Bionic seems to be a great phone (except the camera) but it is way late to the game spec wise. Phones are coming out with 1.2Ghz dual core and 1.5Ghz are just around the corner. As well phones are about to come out with 720p+ displays. The one thing the Bionic has going for it is 1GB of DDR RAM.

I've just decided today to pass on the Bionic even though I really like it. The camera seems to be the same quality still photo wise as the X,X2. Disappointing. I'm going to see what the iPhone 5 has to offer and the Droid Prime or whatever that comes to Verizon, along with maybe the Vigor.

I also feel like I'm sticking with Verizon ONLY for the network, as all of the devices I want are either on Sprint or T-mo, neither of which I care to go to due to their network. Also AT&T seems to be stepping their game up. Verizon better step it up with devices because when AT&T has their LTE network up and covering FL, and also having HSPA/+ fallback, I'll dump Verizon in a minute.

I hat to tell you guys, but the iPhone 5 and Android phones you're talking about AREN'T OUT YET! I understand what your saying, but you need to understand that all phones are obsolete spec wise within 3-6 months now. That's just how it is. That doesnt mean it wont be a good phone. Im still happily using a Nexus S, because all those new specced phones out there still don't manage to run any faster than what I have yet.

You also need to realize that 99% of customers don't know or care about these things.

Android makers will answer the iPhone due to its global presence. Just not as hard as any of us like.

Agree as well, 99% of people would say the bionic processor is better than any else. they dont know boo.

What good is a more desirable/exciting phone if the network is failing you? I totally understand others gripes about Verizon phone selection, but right now I'm on Sprint and the network has let me down on more than one occasion. We have great Android phone selections over here, but I feel like I can't take advantage of it because of network limitations.

I do want the lastest and greatest that Android has to offer, which makes me weary about a possible switch to Verizon, but I need reliable coverage right now more than anything. I guess that's the tradeoff.

I agree, but you can't answer the iPhone until its actually out. Trying to outdo a phone no one has seen yet is an exercise in futility. Manufacturers and carriers understand this, even if customers do not.

And that's why you choose your carrier first, then your phone. I've had Sprint for 12 years and have lived and gone all over the country and haven't had any problems. Every carrier has some holes in their networks.

Very true, sometimes I have to learn things the hard way :-) I will have to dump out more $$, but I will get piece of mind so oh well.

I understand where you're coming from. However, from my vantage point (as a very frustrated and thankfully nearing the end of my contract Storm 2 user), phones such as the Bionic that are tauted for so long as the next "answer" need to be hashed out and released in a timely manner by the carrier (in other words, if the phone couldn't be released by May/June then it's not worth releasing it now). If they're unsure about the tech, then don't tell people about it or at the very least don't release it at $300. Anyone with half-a-brain knows that's a total insult.

Yes, most technology is obsolete in 3-6 months of release, but the difference with the Bionic is that it's obsolete AT RELEASE. It's almost irrelevant and ignorant to go and buy it and not wait an additional couple of months (even through January '12) to get something better and at the same price point.

As to computing power, I'm not using the phone for anything so intense that it'll bog down with any of the spec currently on the market. I'm more interested in power management with the newer chipsets. As that side of the technology gets better, the more enjoyable the experience is for me.

P.S. You're absolutely right...99% of consumers are stupid. LOL

Is it really obsolete at release? A 1 ghz dual core chip doesn't sound so obsolete to me. Is it cutting edge? No, but certainly not obsolete yet. If it were a single core chip, fine. I didn't hear too many make this complaint about the Photon with the Tegra 2, which is at the end of its life span.

You can always wait a few months more and get something better. Phones are hitting that point of their life, and it will be this way for a few more years before it levels out like computers have.

I agree that $300 is too much.

Personally, none of the recent phones have been enough of an improvement over my Nexus S for me to make a switch, so I am waiting untilled I see a phone with a noticeable performance increase

Compared to phones on other carriers such as the Sensation on T-mo, the EVO 3D on Sprint and even the SGS2 due out next week on Sprint, the Bionic is really being released about 3-4 months too late and simply won't be able to compete in the marketplace (not just on Verizon, where in my estimation the Droid Charge is probably a better choice for less money). Yes, you can always wait for something better, but the release of iPhone 5 is almost guaranteed to be in October and you know how many people flock to get the "Jesus phone" only because it is the "Jesus phone". Those of us who like increasingly better specs and expandability are Android-lovers while those who are sheep and follow the "Man" spend $500 on 2-year contracts for iPhone's for no other reason than it's an iPhone and my friend's, neighbor's, dog's, uncle's, sister-in-law has it.

I'm not even considering phones like the Vigor or the Droid Prime as competition for Bionic sales because they will probably be that much better. It's like releasing last year's bargain brand with shiny stickers on it saying it's brand new when the next-gen model is being sold right around the corner.

**No one complained about the Photon because it released on Sprint when the EVO 3D was already ruling the roost and the prospect of the SGS2 releasing on 9/16 basically relegated it to a mid-level phone with a flagship price. That seems to be Moto's M.O. as it comes to phone releases: Day Late, Dollar Too Much.**

You're still missing my point though. You're looking at it from a tech geek standpoint. Specs are nice, bit right now they don't mean a whole hell of a lot to the normal user. I put the Nexus S next to a 3D, and people say the Nexus is faster after using both. How to the specs matter to them? For us its 3 months too late, but for the other 99% of the people, its right on time. Its new and shiney.

When I say no one complained about the Photon specs, I meant with reviews. The only reason its second fiddle on Sprint is because there are a lot of EVO fans that are as bad as iPhone fans. I'm glad I jumped off that ship.

And those same people, even though they don't troll around sites like this one will buy the Moto Bionic instead of waiting for the next iPhone or even buying the iPhone 4 at a discount?

A good portion of Android users are fairly knowledgable about current release and upcoming phones, at least in my estimation. Android=discerning consumer vs. iPhone="shiny ball syndrome".

Yes, because they're fairly knowledgeable, or don't want an iPhone. I know a ton of people dumping their iPhones for Android phones. They have no cluevabout specs. Discerning and fairly knowledgeable does not equate to knowing what tech is coming out. I think you are vastly overestimating most the majority of peoples knowledge. They don't show future tech on commercials or in stores. That's what the majority of people rely on. If they thought like you think they do, the Nexus would have sold a lot better than it actually does

I agree. My wife for example is an Android fan. Why? Because I am and I know more about the phones on the shelves that 90% of the people trying to sell them. My brother in law hates Apple. Why? Because I do and I know what I am talking about when it comes to being able to customize an android phone. He has an EVO. He brings it over, I do my kung fu, and he has a new rom with mods galore. He has no clue how it works, he just knows it's cool. I can think of 10 people off the top of my head who rely on me for tech support. I tell them about this site, but they just aren't that dedicated. They would rather I just "fix it" and they move on with their lives. It takes a special level of dedication to go as deep into the specs as we do, and that's a compliment to all of us. Most people just think of it as a phone...

Exactly. I'm that person for all my friends, and I couldn't even tell you how many of them have Android phones. They all ask me what phone to get when its time for an upgrade. I don't tell them to wait for 3 months for the amazing bleeding edge phone. They want now, I tell them what to get when they want. That's how the Bionic will sell. Just like how the 3D sold. A lot of people who don't know any better went out and bought it. People like me looked at it wanting to like it and said "meh, I'll wait."

For the record, the Nexus didn't sell because it wasn't subsidized by a carrier. Most people need to feel the product in their hand before they buy it and subsequently, not have to pay an arm and a leg out of pocket.

However, point taken. I'm tech support for more than a few people over different OS's myself (and I'm still on a Blackberry!). That's why I said a good portion of Android users. I know there's a majority of people who wouldn't know where the home button was if it wasn't for people like us who enjoy understanding what goes into making the device work. I'd just like to think that there enough of "us" around to justify saying what I've stated in previous posts.

Very true. I meant to say the Nexus S.

I still think the Bionic will sell fine. Its not really any worse than any or the premier phones out right now. Its not going to break any sales records, but I'm sure it'll sell pretty well

Do you guys think the Vigor will have the new 28nm chip? HTC said they would be releasing a device with it by the end of the year.. and I don't see any other high-end devices being announced by HTC. Also the chip is cited at being 1.5GHz which the MSM8960 is also clocked at I believe.
Thoughts?

So can anyone give us a total recap of everything we know and expect from this phone? Like total specs and when it will be released?
