HTC's Email Response to Open Letter

Lets try and keep valid discussion going and not start mud slinging at each other.

Also, please note do not try to circumvent the language filters with special characters..

Have a good day ;)

One thing people just aren't understanding. This is CONSUMER FEEDBACK. You know, the stuff companies WANT. Its not complaining. Its valuable information that they do consider. The kickstand came back because of this very same route.

Would you say that's more, or less, simple than coming into a thread to [deleted], whine and get hysterical about the subject matter of said thread?

If you can't suck it up over some people disagreeing with you, don't click on the threads with titles you disagree with, or don't come into the forums. It's really that simple

It's called freedom of speech. I can criticize and poke fun at those who are in hysterics over a small bit of black, shiny plastic on the back of a phone, just as you have the right to criticize my criticism. If you can't handle that, then perhaps you shouldn't post in a public forum.

A small, shiny bit of plastic doesn't change the fact that the phone is sleek, feels good in the hand, has an awesome screen, appears to perform well, and sees the return of the kickstand in improved form (last year’s source of hysterics).

I think you missed my point for one. Two, on forums that's referred to as trolling, which was the other point to my post.

And technically, freedom of speech doesn't apply here. Its a forum you must sign up for and agree and adhere to certain rules. Those rules are in fact limiting your speech in some way. While it may not technically apply here, the right to free speech isn't really involved here

It looks like a normal, typical, HTC (or insert big company here) response.

I'm glad they read the letter, but still doesn't warrant why the hell they choose the design. Like somebody said earlier, nobody is complaining about the look and feel of the HTC One X (Euro / AT&T) version, but tons of people are up in arms on the Sprint version.

Obviously HTC USA doesn't know how to design a phone. Also Sprint HAD to 'ok' the design which makes matter worse.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I kinda like the look of the back cover. I like the 2 contrasting finishes, and I like that the kickstand is in a place that will offer more stability. It makes it unique, and tries to distance itself from it's AT&T counterpart.

Now, replacement covers would be nice, maybe to offer their customers more customization options, but i think the new look is appropriate for the next step in the EVOlution.

I think the new phone looks great and will probably get it this summer.

I like the fact that it is differnet looking and does not look like all the other HTC One phones that is/will be on the other carriers.

If i wanted a phone that was going to look like the other phones, i would get an iPhone.

I don't normally post, just read and move on but this is getting out of hand. So many people are up in arms over a picture of the phone before actually putting your hands on it. Also Sprint has the best return policy of all the carriers so if you don't like it take it back or better yet don't buy it at all.

It is obvious that HTC takes customer feedback seriously, so many people loved the kickstand on the original EVO and when it was left off the EVO 3D people had a fit. So now that they are bringing it back people are complaining again. Put yourself in HTC position, damn if you do, damn if you don't. The fact that this company, who like all companies are out to make a profit, they do try to please the majority of the people they can.

So if you want the perfect phone for you then create your phone and stop bashing a phone that hasn't been released yet that your going to buy anyway.

What does the way a phone feel have to do with the way it looks?

"oh it feels so good, now it looks amazing!"
"my eyes dictate the feel of the phone now, yeah!"

Stop.

We know what the phone is capable of, plenty of spec sheets and video reviews on the web. The question at hand is NOT how the phone feels, but what the phone LOOKS like. It's obvious the phone has some design issues with Sprint users, to the point it's ALL over tech blog sites. HTC has to know something is up, even before the open letter.

You put the One X (Euro/AT&T) version side by side to the Evo 4G LTE and its not even a contest. One X wins, hands down. When the One X was unveiled everybody was like "oooooooooh... HTC did it, it's the One". It wasn't even about the specs, because we knew before hand about it, it was the look of the phone, it looked amazing. A real contender. Something you'd be proud to hold, look at, it was simply the 'One'. One of the best looking, if not THE best looking smartphone on the planet, even besting the iPhone 4S white. HTC knew they had a big deal on there hands...

...than HTC USA came along and messed that all up.

Extreme disappointment from me, and MANY others on the web. The gloss black up top is an extreme, terrible, almost slap in the face design compare to the One X or One S series. Two tone color, three different types of material on the big. Gone is the curves, for a more angular shape. HTC talked big game during MWC 2012 about the design of the phone, so why on earth HTC USA came along and molested the One X is beyond me, if anything they should of IMPROVED more on it.

HTC designers/engineers had a One X all infront of them and said, "ok, what can we do to make it Evo".

Guy 1: Make it all black, and put a red kickstand in the middle.
Everybody: "REJOICE".
Guy 2: Gloss black uptop for the antenna strength... and the haters.
Everybody: "BOOM".

I haven't read anyone really complain about the kickstand. Where are you reading that? Everyone is taking issue with the ugly gloss black plastic upper half. And also, the OP letter was far from bashing. It was informing HTC to the feelings of a very large group of people on a bad design decision.

If you look back at some of the other thread when the phone was first announced there was a lot of complaints about the kickstand. I'm not saying the OP letter was bashing I'm saying all the other unnecessary complaints about a phone that is not even released yet. The OP letter was very professional and to the point. Now to say HTC made a bad design decision of course is still just an opinion and a large group feel that way as the same a large group could care less. The specs are what most care about and almost everytime you read of someone complaining about the look someone comes back that "your going to put a case on it so who cares". Of which my point is if the way the phone looks is a deal breaker for you then don't get this phone if you don't like how it looks.

That makes no sense.

No phone out there looks like an iPhone/4s.

It's the ONLY phone out there with it's own design cues, shape, feel, outside antenna etc. It's the only phone to NOT follow hardware design trends of others.

MOST android phones look damn near identical, even down to the same colors and back shell material. Even HTC has admit that most of there phones/design look the same, hence the reason the "One" series was unveiled.

......ouch. That's pretty harsh. You really think it looks worse than the One X?

I understand, but compared to the concern about the top portion, the concern on the kickstands is very minor. I'm one of the ones that have been in this forum since it started and am vocal about the bad design choice, and I haven't seen more than a half dozen complaints about the actual kickstand.

Eh, no, not really, but it is a step down in design or backwards from the One series.

If they kept it all one material / color, that would be one less issue (the most important) of mine. Gloss black?! What is this, Pimp My Smartphone starring HTC?

What I don't get is its the back of the phone. How many look at te back of the phone? Me, I plan on having a ballistic case on mine.

I don't understand. If you don't like how the phone looks, don't buy it? People feel so entitled to everything these days and feel like these companies owe them something. You're a customer, not a shareholder. I understand consumers have to have a voice, but this is ridiculous.

I'll stay it again for emphasis, if you don't like how something looks, don't buy it.

And there are people that won't. What's the problem with voicing why you won't in hopes that the companies will use the feedback?

Because it has to do with the design of the phone, which they most likely have had done for a long time. When it comes to bootloaders, ok, I can understand a letter and petition, because those things can be fixed later. But the design of the phone? Please. All of the petitions and cryng in the world is not going to change that unless it is faulty (like antenna-gate).

You are right and you are wrong here. You are right in the fact that if we don't like how something was made or looks then we should spend our money elsewhere. We are after all, consumers in a free market. However, We, as consumers WOULD REALLY WANT TO PURCHASE this product if one small, but glaring detail was adjusted. So, as consumers, we have a right to voice our concerns to the company. As I stated in my letter, I as well as many of us, WANT THIS PRODUCT TO BE A SUCCESS. So, in that vein, I see nothing wrong with people requesting an adjustment before the product is released, so that it could be a success. The folks who don't care one way or the other won't mind. The people who really have a problem with it would be satisfied, and HTC and Sprint gain more sales, customers and profits. EVERYBODY WINS. This is the benefit of consumer feedback in a free society.

So, because the design of the phone doesn't matter to you it shouldn't matter to any of us? Okay, got it.

And, to elaborate on my earlier point, this is an android phone forum. The people here are obviously into phones, that's why. It Chevy were to release a new Corvette that was better in every way than the current one, but put a body on it that half the current Corvette enthusiasts thought was ugly, should those people just pipe down and not buy it? No, they should let them know
