HTC's One delayed because suppliers think it's 'no longer a tier-one customer,' says WSJ

Nah, there won't be a Nexus 5 unveiled in May, too early for it. The Moto X or NXT be it a single device or a full lineup is quite likely tho. We can also expect Key Lime Pie and a lot about Glass along with some GoogleTV thrown in the mix.

Oh? Just like it was too early for a s4?

Then i guess all the sites are wrong then. Man some of you are party poopers round here.

No. Some of us actually pay attention to what Google does. They don't release Nexus phones in the spring.

At the end of the day, whatever the supply/development/marketing/corporate/political issues are, when is any major tech launch not delayed? I seem to remember many Apple conferences when they were supposed to be releasing the next groundbraking iPhone only to give us ever increasingly ghastly coloured ipods. The iPhone 4s for example, was supposed (by pretty much the entire internet) to be the iPhone 5, right up until the moment that it turned out to be the (drumroll.......) 4s. iPhone 6 is coming and already generating much interest and wild speculation, but I'll swap my teeth with my granny if we see it before an iPhone 5s.

Last years media frenzy of an SG3 launch also seemed to take place over the course of several months, although with Samsung, you can never be sure what is technical development and what is marketing hype. Taking this HTC One launch, how much extra media has the (very slight in the grand scheme of things) delay caused? A boat load more than a smooth and punctual delivery would have done for sure. How many of the people who have been forced to wait an additional two weeks have turned around and said 'Stuff you HTC, its an SG4 for me!', not very many I'd guess. A more than significant portion of these top line smart phones are bought as part of a contract, so not only does that mean that every SG4 sold is one less erm, One sold, it also means that people who are going to be stuck with the phone for two years have to be a little more discerning about having to wait a short while for it, rather than buying on impulse.

Where do you think the power button is on the One? Or where it was on pretty much every other HTC device? And while I don't have a DNA I have a couple friends who do and they rave about the battery life. I've seen lots of folks coming around these parts to refute the poor battery life statement as well, so I don't know that the battery life there is that bad.

I have tons of customers that say the battery life sucks

Just so we are clear, you work for Verizon but have a T-Mobile phone? Or you work for T-mobile but have TONS of people less than six months into a Verizon contract coming into your store?
Why would tons of anyone be coming into a store with such a new phone, especially a different provider?

Im still under contract to this monstrosity of a carrier called tmobile but i work in a verizon retail location.

People are always complaining about the battery, even had a few who asked if they can buy a second battery lol

They're Samsung fanboys who don't like the fact that the next Nexus is going to blow the underwhelming S4 away. Once you wrap your head around that you'll get the seemingly unexplainable negativity. Samsung quality control is utter garbage and has been for at least 5 years now. All they do is market and hype but don't actually pump any products built to last out of their contracted out manufacturing facilities. I don't think they've ever even made the top 3 in reliability ratings. If someone can find me a credible source that says otherwise I'll give you a cookie. And yes smooth, your sites are correct, there will be either a Nexus announced in May or the X-phone which if anyone's been keeping track will blow both Samsung and HTC away this summer. Either way...

no what it really is, is that they refuse to accept that a n5 will be coming sooner than usual. the n4 was an utter failure to me spec wise. after all of the negativity surrounding the htc one release and the gimmicky s4 ive decided to get neither of them. my note 2 suits me fine until the n5 or that moto device hits. every story ive read about google io suggests a new nexus phone and tablet will be announced in may and available this summer.

I don't expect to see a new Nexus phone at I/O.

I do expect to see a new Nexus tablet at I/O.

I do expect to see a new Motorola phone at I/O. I don't expect that phone to be a Nexus phone.

All the sites are just posting rumor and speculation. Nothing is official until it's official.

Uh. Exactly. I don't know why you seem so butthurt about people posting that they don't expect a "Nexus 5" at I/O.

The next Nexus is likely to hit in the fall/winter, and if it follows Nexus trends, it will be just below par (spec wise) for next years smartphones, which will be it's competitiors for most of it's shelf life.

Refusing to accept a rumor... More like, making their guess based on history. Look at the 5 nexus device debacle that we had to listen to all last year. Rumors are just that, and until official announcements are made, there is nothing to accept.

Yeah... then why are you here? I mean seriously, you're on a forum discussing a device that is not sold by your employer, will be sold by your current provider who you can't stand and will be leaving as soon as possible, and isn't available to anyone here in the US yet. What you should be doing is spending all of your time on the DNA forums urging those naive folks not to buy that phone, or to return it for a GS3 if they already have.

I'm in SoCal and, ironically enough, it's nearly impossible to get a DNA here. In and around LA there isn't a store within a hundred miles that can keep them in stock. I would have to order and wait for a week and a half to get it in. And I'm not just making stuff up. You can call the Baldwin Park or West Covina stores and ask Josh or Daniel or William. Those are the guys I talked to, at different stores, who told me inventory status. Also, they all 3 said the battery life was good, but not like the RAZR Maxx. Comparable to the GS3, though Josh had a couple returns because of battery life not being what the Note 2 was, and one lady who was leaving her BT on constantly so she didn't have to think about it when she got in her car in the morning. She turned it off during the day and apparently hasn't had any issues.

Apparently battery life is subjective. Who knew?

Why is he not able to participate in a forum for a device that no one has at the moment? I did not know that the forums were based on who your employer was or the phone you currently have. Guess it's not for those that are interested in a new device, huh? Good grief.

Relax, man. The point was why is he wasting his time on any of these forums when he obviously should be out in the real world saving everyone from non-removable batteries? Get a cape and some tights and commence to saving us all. Not just this thread. Not just this forum. Certainly not this site. I could give a damn if every other post was his. I'm not God and I don't own or run this site. And even if I did, I wouldn't keep anyone from talking. But obviously the light sarcasm snuck right by you there. So I'll go the full-on, non-smartass route:

Guess what? He has no intention of buying this device. At all. Ever. And he doesn't think you should buy it either. As a matter of fact he doesn't believe they should be ALLOWED to manufacture the device at all. The fact that you like it or don't like it is of no consequence. He is a battery Nazi. That's all. I've seen him on tons of threads and that's his major beef. Before you get any higher on your soapbox, pay attention to the progression of the conversation. Just an FYI, to do that you'll have to navigate multiple threads on this forum, then find a bunch of other forums where he's posted the same stuff. So forgive me if it's tiring to listen to Captain Samsung spout off about how terrible the battery is on this phone that, as you correctly noted, "no one has at the moment." If he can piss and moan about something that is 1000% his opinion but stated as fact, then I can bust his balls about it.

I actually called 3 Verizon stores today. Partly because I was bored and had some spare time, and partly because I wanted to get some other Verizon opinions. That's where he works and where, apparently, nobody wants anything but the GS3 once they know all of the facts. And folks that get the DNA are always complaining about the battery life. The VZW guys I talked to today didn't say anything like that. They talked about a few phones they liked and a couple they didn't. They talked about having a few people complain about the DNA but the truth is that they couldn't get me one until next Friday because every store within a hundred miles was out of stock. It's been pretty popular. Their words, not mine. Apparently people who don't complain about the battery life of these devices, and actually are impressed with it, are liars. How could they not be? That's not his experience with them, and he's had pretty much every phone, on every carrier. Including the RAZR Maxx. You know, the beast that has a 3300mAh battery. The one people are getting 2, 3, 4+ days on a single charge? Yeah, that one. Well apparently that's a lie because that p.o.s. won't get you through a full day unless you use it lightly. My EVO LTE that gets me through a full day on a very regular basis? It must be my imagination because he's had that too and it doesn't get you through a full day either. Nor will the One X or the One S. So if you say it will you are obviously just anti-Samsung I guess. Your phone's battery is terrible. He knows - he's had them all. And my friends who have the DNA and make easily make it through a full day? Liars. Or none of us really use our phone. because their batteries sucked for him and that means that they will suck for you and everyone else, too. Except for the GS3. That thing's kickin' it like Van Damme.

It couldn't possibly be that he might, just maybe, just a teeny tiny little bit, use his phone a hell of a lot more than the rest of us do, so his battery requirements are a lot bigger than most of us. Or maybe all of us. Certainly more than the majority of us. He's a battery life one-percenter. And that's fine. More power to him. Literally! But I am so so so sick and tired of people (and he's not the only one. There are plenty of people around here who are genuine a-holes about it (name redacted so I don't get yelled at, but he hates "samscum" and everything that's ever been made from plastic) and Hustleman isn't one of those) who deem their opinions and experiences to be fact for everyone. They have already decided FOR YOU what your next phone shouldn't be. If they could, they would stop production on the phone you might want. So if I decide to bust his balls a little bit (as I'm sure he will bust mine), and you don't get it because you don't know the flavor of the conversation over the last few months, don't take offense. If you do, that's your problem.

And Hustleman - it's all good. Nothing personal on you at all. I'll see you around the forums.

So your response is that rumors are rumors? OK...? Of course they are. But that still doesn't change the fact that there was absolutely nothing groundbreaking about the new HTC One or gs4. Your first argument is irrelevant. All phones get outdone for most of their shelf life, this isn't confined to the Nexus line.

That was a fun read... And the craziest implementation of quotations I've seen since algebra!

I've had nothing but HTC for years: Titan/Mogul, TP1, TP2, Evo 4G, EvoLte...

And I think I might jump ship next time.... After the whole hold up at Customs for the EvoLte, HTC kind of owes U.S. customers IMO... This is another botched launch in the States by them....
