HTC's One delayed because suppliers think it's 'no longer a tier-one customer,' says WSJ

That was a fun read... And the craziest implementation of quotations I've seen since algebra!
Yeah I might have gotten a little carried away, reading it back now.

I've had nothing but HTC for years: Titan/Mogul, TP1, TP2, Evo 4G, EvoLte...

And I think I might jump ship next time.... After the whole hold up at Customs for the EvoLte, HTC kind of owes U.S. customers IMO... This is another botched launch in the States by them....
I feel you. This was the problem a year ago: if things out of your control hold up the release of the device just be up front about it. Bad news is better than no news. And don't leave us nerds to speculate. You might get the occasional "they're delaying it for 4.2.2", but mostly it'll be "they don't know WTF is going on. They suck balls.", so throw us a bone here. And I too am a proud former Mogul owner... ahh, the good old days.

BigDinCa, ironically, your first sentence was "Relax man." You might need to take a stress test, dude. I don't know how you guys let people take you so far around the bend about something as innocuous as a cell phone. It's more than a bit embarrassing.
Old saying goes: "You can tell the size of people by the size of the things that upset them."

Those old sayings are great but they all came about back when people put their sick dog down themselves, lived through the plague and stayed married. We're all soft nowadays. More like "You can tell the size of people by the size of their smartphone"

no what it really is, is that they refuse to accept that a n5 will be coming sooner than usual. the n4 was an utter failure to me spec wise. after all of the negativity surrounding the htc one release and the gimmicky s4 ive decided to get neither of them. my note 2 suits me fine until the n5 or that moto device hits. every story ive read about google io suggests a new nexus phone and tablet will be announced in may and available this summer.

You don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about. The next nexus phone will be announced in October.

You mean on the top of the phone like 90% of smartphones out there?

The battery life is not mediocre. That you believe that tells me you don't own one and have never talked with anyone that has. The battery life is better than the S3's by quite a bit.

The difference to me is that Samsung chose to use physical home button, so you can turn on the screen with the home button.

...so? Are people really so lazy that they can't reach 5 inches to the top of their phone?

It is convenient, just a convenient way to unlock the phone.

So your response is that rumors are rumors? OK...? Of course they are. But that still doesn't change the fact that there was absolutely nothing groundbreaking about the new HTC One or gs4. Your first argument is irrelevant. All phones get outdone for most of their shelf life, this isn't confined to the Nexus line.

What are you even talking about? At no point did I say anything about the GS4 or One. My comment was about the fact that early nexus announcements were likely unfounded rumors, and that based on Google's usual timeline, we wouldn't see a Nexus until the fall.

The big competitors usually drop their phones in spring/early summer. HTC and Sammy in this case will be out (no official word on a Moto. offering), and their flagships will sit on the shelf for almost a year before the next ones get announced. Google drops it's flagship in the winter, so it spends much of it's life cycle behind the competition.

You hopefully have been paying attention over the last few months to what actual difference specs are making in the real world performance of flagship Android phones. Go ahead and show me how much faster the S4 or HTC One are than the 5 month old Nexus 4 for opening apps, scrolling apps, opening websites in the browser, navigating the UI etc. I mean that you can actually detect yourself as a live human being not the benchmarks that are not only imperfect measurements but imperceptible to the human eye.

I'll wait.

For further reading, you might want to take stock of how many tech sites are currently remarking that user experience (and price) are the new battlegrounds in the smartphone war because of the above, not specs. UX is subjective. For some it will be features provided by the OEM ROMs, while for others it will be quicker access to the most recent features of the OS itself.

Puh-leeze! I've written some damn novels on these threads over the years. If I have time and the words flow, I just let 'em. I've never lost a second of sleep over anything said in these forums, good or bad.

Not getting updated on the EVO LTE customs hold last year - that's a different story.

Which is probably why, in my original post, I specifically stated "Spec-wise" as the variance in the phones. Spend more time actually comprehending what people say than making smart-ass remarks and you might find conversing more enjoyable.

Relax, man. The point was why is he wasting his time on any of these forums when he obviously should be out in the real world saving everyone from non-removable batteries? Get a cape and some tights and commence to saving us all. Not just this thread. Not just this forum. Certainly not this site. I could give a damn if every other post was his. I'm not God and I don't own or run this site. And even if I did, I wouldn't keep anyone from talking. But obviously the light sarcasm snuck right by you there. So I'll go the full-on, non-smartass route:

Guess what? He has no intention of buying this device. At all. Ever. And he doesn't think you should buy it either. As a matter of fact he doesn't believe they should be ALLOWED to manufacture the device at all. The fact that you like it or don't like it is of no consequence. He is a battery Nazi. That's all. I've seen him on tons of threads and that's his major beef. Before you get any higher on your soapbox, pay attention to the progression of the conversation. Just an FYI, to do that you'll have to navigate multiple threads on this forum, then find a bunch of other forums where he's posted the same stuff. So forgive me if it's tiring to listen to Captain Samsung spout off about how terrible the battery is on this phone that, as you correctly noted, "no one has at the moment." If he can piss and moan about something that is 1000% his opinion but stated as fact, then I can bust his balls about it.

I actually called 3 Verizon stores today. Partly because I was bored and had some spare time, and partly because I wanted to get some other Verizon opinions. That's where he works and where, apparently, nobody wants anything but the GS3 once they know all of the facts. And folks that get the DNA are always complaining about the battery life. The VZW guys I talked to today didn't say anything like that. They talked about a few phones they liked and a couple they didn't. They talked about having a few people complain about the DNA but the truth is that they couldn't get me one until next Friday because every store within a hundred miles was out of stock. It's been pretty popular. Their words, not mine. Apparently people who don't complain about the battery life of these devices, and actually are impressed with it, are liars. How could they not be? That's not his experience with them, and he's had pretty much every phone, on every carrier. Including the RAZR Maxx. You know, the beast that has a 3300mAh battery. The one people are getting 2, 3, 4+ days on a single charge? Yeah, that one. Well apparently that's a lie because that p.o.s. won't get you through a full day unless you use it lightly. My EVO LTE that gets me through a full day on a very regular basis? It must be my imagination because he's had that too and it doesn't get you through a full day either. Nor will the One X or the One S. So if you say it will you are obviously just anti-Samsung I guess. Your phone's battery is terrible. He knows - he's had them all. And my friends who have the DNA and make easily make it through a full day? Liars. Or none of us really use our phone. because their batteries sucked for him and that means that they will suck for you and everyone else, too. Except for the GS3. That thing's kickin' it like Van Damme.

It couldn't possibly be that he might, just maybe, just a teeny tiny little bit, use his phone a hell of a lot more than the rest of us do, so his battery requirements are a lot bigger than most of us. Or maybe all of us. Certainly more than the majority of us. He's a battery life one-percenter. And that's fine. More power to him. Literally! But I am so so so sick and tired of people (and he's not the only one. There are plenty of people around here who are genuine a-holes about it (name redacted so I don't get yelled at, but he hates "samscum" and everything that's ever been made from plastic) and Hustleman isn't one of those) who deem their opinions and experiences to be fact for everyone. They have already decided FOR YOU what your next phone shouldn't be. If they could, they would stop production on the phone you might want. So if I decide to bust his balls a little bit (as I'm sure he will bust mine), and you don't get it because you don't know the flavor of the conversation over the last few months, don't take offense. If you do, that's your problem.

And Hustleman - it's all good. Nothing personal on you at all. I'll see you around the forums.

Lol @hurling insults at me then saying "nothing personal"

Call me what you want, and I never said the dna wasn't popular, i said customers complain about battery life. I sell plenty of them, can't keep them in stock either, but doesn't mean people don't complain.

I am relaxed actually. Seems you weren't because someone said someone that wasn't positive about a Droid DNA. It's a phone man and these forums are open to anyone regardless of the device they are using and who they work for. God forbid someone that works for Apple and using an iphone comes over here to see what's going on new for Android. Oh the horror

Well, it truly wasn't personal. My apologies if you thought that. Did I use a little hyperbole? Yep. But it wasn't meant as a personal attack. The tone was a little tongue-in-cheek and not even directed at you, but to the guy I quoted. Apparently saying anything that doesn't end with a smiling emoticon or an "lol" isn't to be taken jokingly or as sarcasm. It is offensive and means I'm dictating who may post what to where. Besides, I wouldn't need to direct it at you. You know what you talk about here.

Honestly, what did I say that wasn't true? Obviously you're not a Nazi. That was hyperbole. Also, I don't really think you would put on a cape and tights to save people from poor battery life. That was also hyperbole. But you do have a beef with non-removable batteries. You don't think manufacturers should be allowed to make them until it meets your specifications. You have absolutely said you've had all of the devices I mentioned and all get poor battery life. None can last a full day. You've re-stated that argument, even after people have said they can get a full day on them with what they consider normal to heavy use. Those are facts, look at your posts. Let me know if I've gotten any of that wrong so far. I'm pretty sure I haven't. I'm on these forums all the time. Not just the HTC ones. I see lots of your posts, along with tons of others, and these are things that you talk about constantly when you go to other forums. And that's great! I'm not saying you can't. It's all part of the forum experience here. People's opinions are the biggest part of these forums. But I can't call you out if what you deem to be facts are really just personal experience and not necessarily true for other people? Am I not allowed to disagree with what you say, or point out that your opinions are not facts? Apparently it's an insult? The EVO LTE on my desk is black, w/ a red kickstand and brushed aluminum around the sides. That's a fact. I can get through most days on a single charge and I use the phone quite a bit during the course of a day. I've been pleasantly surprised with the performance if it's non-removable battery. That's my personal experience.

And for the record, I really wasn't trying to imply that you said the DNA wasn't popular. My mistake there. I was trying to illustrate that it was, despite your claims of terrible battery life, selling ridiculously well. Not everyone thinks the battery is terrible and lots of people seem to be okay with a non-removable battery. (Note to self: take everything the Verizon salespeople say with a grain of salt. Apparently they won't let you know that the device you're looking at is a flaming pile of junk. They're trained to not talk bad about any of their products.)

General consumers are also more likely to keep a device and deal with the "flaws" than we are. We'd get a new device immediately or figure out ways to change it. General consumers in many cases deal with it or bring it back with questions. Around friends and people at work that simply hate their phone but still use it and have no intention of getting a new one anytime soon. It is quite amazing.

You've got me all wrong. I am certainly not "that guy" posting trash about iPhone fans or Samsung fans just because I am an HTC guy. I could care less if anyone works for Apple or VZW or T-Mo just because I'm on Sprint. The more information we get here, the better. If you had read any of my other posts you would know that. You haven't followed any of these conversations. If you had you would know the reason for bringing up the fact Hustleman works for Verizon. It was discussed previously, on more than one occasion actually, and in more than one forum. I don't have an issue with his take on the DNA battery life. But it is HIS take on it. I don't have an issue with the fact that he loves his GS3. I get it. I love my EVO! I don't have a DNA. I never will because I will never be a Verizon customer. But that doesn't mean my friends are lying to me about how much use they get from the battery. If you had followed the conversation you would have recognized that. The only problem I really have is people who have decided that their opinion is fact and what's best for them is best for you and me as well. If you love your Droid or your iPhone, great! I'm glad you have the phone that fits your needs. If you love the One, sight unseen - excellent! If you prefer polycarbonate to aluminum, or LCD to AMOLED that's fantastic. If you love microSD cards and swappable batteries I want you to have beautiful babies with them. Let me know when the shower is and I'll send gifts.

Now, sometimes the written word doesn't accurately convey the intended spirit of the words. I can understand that. And so I get that you may have been offended with or taken umbradge with what I said, hence the mea culpa. But if I tell you I was being sarcastic and you still think I was being uptight, I can't help you there. Do not take my diatribe as a symptom of my panties being in a bunch. When I have some downtime with work and get on the forums, I can become a very prolific rambler.

Also, I don't actually wear panties.

Hmmm... I think i see the problem here. I didn't realize that "not good enough" battery life was the opposite of "poor" battery life. I thought they were synonymous. Except...

See, I just assumed that comments like "really bad" and "Then the dna was a failure, small battery AND you can't change it." and "it means you're stuck with piss poor battery life" or even "A phone maker with a record of bad battery life like HTC shouldn't be allowed to make phones with non replaceable batteries." meant that the battery life was poor in your opinion. Apparently I have a reading comprehension problem.
