Huawei-built Nexus rumored with 5.7-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 820 and fingerprint scanner.

How is the build quality on the huawei phones these days? I used to own one a while back and I wasn't very impressed.

I owned the Ascend Mate 7 for a short time. Awesome phone, build quality was fantastic. Best fingerprint scanner I've ever used, and I've had Apple, Samsung, HTC scanners. Sadly, the guy I bought it from didn't let me know the SD card reader was broken so I filed a claim and got my money back.

Honestly, I would have preferred if Google had let Huawei stick with an FHD screen and the bigger batteries they're known for, and asked for dual stereo speakers, in place of a QHD screen. This way, they could still keep costs down, but offer as close to perfect (imho) device as possible that people would jump to buy (assuming it has the SD 820, of course). I don't know if I trust Google not to go cheap on the parts that actually matter, in favor of the "flash".

This will kill Nexus if true. Let's face it, very few Nexus devices sell outside of the true Android enthusiasts. I personally will NEVER own a phone made by Huawei. NEVER. Just like I will NEVER own a Kia. No matter how much they dress one up, in the end it's still a Kia.

It's not going to kill Nexus lol. Huawei is a huge company outside the US. They make some pretty good flagship phones. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean other people won't, and luckily, you're not running Google. They've obviously have some good reasons to have them make a Nexus.

Exactly. It's a case of "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours". Google helps Huawei gain a bigger hold on the U.S. market, and Huawei helps Google get into the Chinese market. Plus, Huawei phones are built well, and the reviews I've seen from users are glowing.

So, this is a concept image of the Huawei Nexus as found on Yibada that was published a little while ago. I didn't bother to post the story because it's ridiculous, claiming a 3,100 mAh battery in it, and a 3,500 mAh battery in the smaller Nexus. It makes no sense. But here, at least, is the render.

Looks like a Galaxy Note knock off with the home button below. I'm sure that there will not be physical buttons on a Nexus.

Yeah.... To be honest, anyone who makes a render of a Nexus with a physical home button is obviously not doing any research at all before slapping the thing together. The last Nexus to have any kind of physical navigation bar was the capacitive-keyed Nexus S in 2010. I would say with almost 100% certainty that there will be no physical button on the front of the phone... I'm sure there will be a fingerprint sensor included, but that will almost certainly be put on the back.

Well, there has to be one, for the fingerprint scanner. I doubt it'll be in the front like that, though.

Hopefully it'll be on the back.

I agree. Huawei usually puts their scanners on the back, below the camera. I'm more concerned with the placement of the speaker. Huawei uses a loud, Hi Fi speaker. I would hope that they place it on the bottom as opposed to the back, if not just having dual front stereo speakers again.

Grain of salt, but according to this story, Huawei is releasing its Mate 8 at an event on September 2nd, which could offer some clues as to what the Nexus will look like. The Mate 8 supposedly has a 6" QHD screen, will run on its own in-house Kirin 950 processor, and be powered by a 4,100 mAh battery. I'd love for that battery to be in the Nexus, and I wouldn't mind Huawei using their own processor as well.

Well... my first reaction was to say that I wouldn't expect a Wahway (heh) Nexus to look like anything else in their lineup... but then I got to thinking.... it actually very well could.

I think there was a big shift in how Google sees the Nexus line between the Nexus 5 and 6.... like that whole rumored Android Silver thing... The Nexus 5 (and 4 for that matter) really looked nothing like the G2 that it sourced much of its guts from. It was a Google Nexus. Then that whole 'will they or won't they get rid of it' thing leading up to the release of the Nexus 6. Then the Nexus 6 dropped and it didn't just have a Moto family resemblence, they pretty much took a Moto and put a Nexus tramp-stamp on the thing right under the Motorola logo.

Now, looking at this Huawei thing... This phone is a real quid pro quo between Google and Huawei (and by extension, China). Google and China have a bit of a contentious relationship.... a relationship that would probably stand to improve greatly if Google officially blesses one of China's largest OEMs and kind of gives them a coming out party in the United States, China might warm to a Google presense in the mainland. So looking through that lens, I would suspect that a Huawei Nexus would have a very Huawei-like look.... if you want to really push your brand, you want to show your brand.
