My P30 Pro wouldn't recognize the 5Ghz signal from my home modem/router but I found the solution as follows:
There is a setting in you modem/router under the WiFi user settings called 'Band Steering' or similar (it was on the 2.4Ghz tab on my Telstra Arcadyan modem/router settings).
I unchecked the setting and YES my P30 phone immediately recognized both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signal, so that was my solution, it's not the phone it's the modem/router.
