I am returning my HTC One (M8). Are you?

For the average user, the more versatile HTC One, with its added bells and whistles, is probably the better option. But the choice here is do you want a fast camera that sometimes falls down on image quality, or a slower shooter with the potential to capture more fine detail.

Why can't the Android consumer get both great image quality AND a fast shooter. Why does it have to be either or when the consumer is paying 600$ for a phone?

No. It's about truth. And you will have none of it.

From what I've read, anyone that has a different opinion than yours is uninformed or in denial according to you. My opinion is that the M8's camera is disappointing period. Regardless of how many megapixels it has.

Tell me, do you think everything is the same on your 2003 and 2011 cameras except the number of pixels on the sensor? Just curious.
So you're saying a modern 4mp camera is far better than ones produced in 2003? OK, I can buy that. Can you point me to a few so I can have a look?

Then you aren't paying attention. My only argument has been that image quality is not a function of number of pixels. They really aren't related at all in most contexts. The fact that you have an M8 and find the camera disappointing is disappointing. I guess I will see for myself shortly.

There are probably a myriad of reasons you won't find a 4 MP PAS today not the least of which is the brain-dead belief that more pixels = better image quality. There's plenty of proof of that right here on this thread. Are you implying that sensor technology has been the only advances in digital photography in the last decade? Do you even consider anything other than pixels when buying a camera? Does max aperture, ISO range, shutter speeds mean anything at all to you?

Folks,

Debate & discuss things but if it continues to get personal with digs on each other or we will start to handle things as needed. Lets not go there if we don't have to.

My 1st phone was a bag phone also from Verizon and it plugged into my cigarette lighter. LOL! I have small hands but I held this phone at the store and it was ok. I wouldn't want a note 3 like my friend has it's way to big but I think this phone is ok. Everyone says the onscreen buttons go away when watching video and it used the whole screen 5 inches and I am fine with everything about it. Just having the gestures and double tap to turn off and on is a plus for me. I love my HTC One now but I am sure I will like this much better. I've been an HTC fan since the 1st EVO and I have had every one since. I had a TP2 before also a windows phone.

One of my first cell phones was a bag phone for my car. How does this compare size wise? J/K. How does this phone compare size wise to the DNA?

I don't care what kind of phone you have, that's not how I judge someone's worth or intelligence.

With people like this the best thing you can do is ignore them, they come to forums and it seems that they don't have anything else to do during the day that coming to the forums arguing and looking for stupid internet bullying against anyone who may threat them trying to justify their decisions and forcing the rest of us to think like them, even when going against facts, but facts are facts, nothing else to do there.

Again, my decision are always taken by me, not because somebody else say this or that, that's part of been a grown up, plus who died and let him in charge of deciding what's right or wrong, funny guy saying that I'll lose badly arguing that a 4mp camera can take the same quality picture of a very good 16mp one, let him keep trying... Just ignore whatever he will keep posting, for people like him there's nothing worst than to be ignored.

I don't have a problem with the low megapixel count per se, but it does limit cropping ability in post. Yes, at full resolution, 4 megapixels should be enough, but if you want to crop that photo even a little, you start getting into resolution problems. Just saying.

How is this even up for debate? In 2014, compared to other smartphone cameras, the M8 camera is garbage. It's either a deal breaker for you or it isn't. Some people don't care about the camera so it's not a big deal.

Not that the rest of the phone isn't horrendously overrated, but still.

The bottom line is a larger pixel will have a higher dynamic range. This matters for many reasons not only in-door low light scenarios. The M8's f20 lens will capture more light than whatever phone you're using. With the M8 you will be able to go with a higher shutter speed, therefore minimizing blur, then your phone in the same light conditions. Yes if you have crop the hell out of an image you will pixelate sooner with the 4 MP iamge. BUT with the 2 micron pixels/f20 lens you will be able to get shots that are simply not possible with the ultra MP cameras. Again this is all theoretical, there are other variables at play but I'd say HTC has definitely got the right idea.

Have you looked at any of the comparisons shown on a myriad of websites? It's not even in the same league as the 2013 flagships. Of course that makes sense because they basically stuck the same camera that was in the M7 in the M8. But why stop there? Take OIS out, too.

That's not trolling at all. It's reality.

Just received mine today, and couldn't be happier.I don't plan to use it to replace my canon for digital photography, but it was an excellent upgrade from my Evo4g Lte

Why are you even here debating this then? Your opinion is that it's garbage, that's not the opinion of a lot of people here. Your opinion has been stated now let's just leave it at that.

It is most defiantly not the same sensor, that much has been proven. Just because it has the same megapixels doesn't mean it's the same. Also the exclusion of ois has been proven to not be an issue. I actually own both devices and the camera is 100% improved in all areas. The fact that you don't think 4mp is "enough" shows how much you actually know about photography. Megapixels are not the end all be all in photography.

So go ahead and reply talking about how this review said this, and that review said that without actually having any experience with the device. Going to a store and playing with the phone doesn't count as real world experience.

In the end the camera is only as good as the person using it.

Where did I ever say that? I said that Sense 6 isn't some great advantage over the refined Touchwiz on the S5.

As far as the camera goes, Google it. I'm not wasting my time posting things that have either already been posted here or are easy to find. Imore did one. Phone Arena did one. There's a few others.

I don't have to Google it, I have the phone in my hand. The camera is more than capable
