I am returning my HTC One (M8). Are you?

It is most defiantly not the same sensor, that much has been proven. Just because it has the same megapixels doesn't mean it's the same. Also the exclusion of ois has been proven to not be an issue. I actually own both devices and the camera is 100% improved in all areas. The fact that you don't think 4mp is "enough" shows how much you actually know about photography. Megapixels are not the end all be all in photography.

So go ahead and reply talking about how this review said this, and that review said that without actually having any experience with the device. Going to a store and playing with the phone doesn't count as real world experience.

In the end the camera is only as good as the person using it.

I said "basically". Clearly it's not the exact same, but pretty close. As far as your assumption that I meant the camera was garbage because of the MP, which I never said, you're wrong. That's not the only thing wrong with it.

It struggles in well lit areas because of the amount of light the sensor lets in. It's best attribute, low light shots, isn't all that great which is funny considering it's supposed to be. So it's not that great in low light areas (but not awful), it struggles in bright light situations, and it's noisy in almost all situations because of the MP limitations.

You're right. 100% better than the M7. Please continue to try to justify your purchase by being in denial about it's Achilles heel. If YOU like it, that's great. Just don't pretend it's some great camera compared to almost anything else out today.

Where did I ever say that? I said that Sense 6 isn't some great advantage over the refined Touchwiz on the S5.

As far as the camera goes, Google it. I'm not wasting my time posting things that have either already been posted here or are easy to find. Imore did one. Phone Arena did one. There's a few others.

I use the phone. I know the camera as I use it. no need to google it.

have you used it? have you used the phone?

I received my M8 yesterday. Mind you I came from an iPhone 5. Yes this is a larger phone, but nothing I was not aware of prior to buying. I purchased an otterbox at Verizon just to cover it until I can order from amazon. I actually really like the feel of this phone. Can I maneuver around on it like my iphone 5 no, but i appreciate the larger screen. I rocked several android phones prior to my iphone 5 with the galaxy nexus being the last. I don't have large hands by any means but this phone is doable with the right case and/or no case. I prefer a case due to the smoothness of the materials and for some protection. I ordered a Cruzerlite which allows some grippiness with minimal bulk (love these cases). Right now with this otterbox on yes it is even larger but still manageable. I remember getting my galaxy nexus thinking it was "so large" then going to an iphone for nearly 2 years I think this is a keeper! I have no problems with the camera at all. I dont gripe about a battery unless it dies within just several hours but i unplugged at 8am and just had to plug it back in at 7 pm this evening. This was with moderate to heavy usage, but my iphone 5 lasted the same amount of time. So given the drastic difference in running features this is not bad!

I'm just kind of shocked that people convinced of the inadequacy of a 4mp camera do more than post pictures to Instagram or Facebook (and would ever notice the mp differential).

If the M8's battery life is equal to an IPhone 5, that would be totally disappointing.

It's a little bigger than I first thought it would be, but I'm still happy with it. Used to have a Note 2, so this isn't too bad in my opinion.

Love the screen, build quality and how it feels in my hands; and music sounds amazing both via headphones and through the speaker...but I understand that it's not for everyone.

This is pure gold. Letting more light in is the goal of every camera system. You can always close the shutter faster, it's a LOT harder to let more light in.

How do you know it struggles in well lit areas? How do you know it doesn't do well in low light areas? Do you own the device and are speaking from experience? Are you just reading reviews and taking them as fact?

Like I said before, a camera is only as good as the person using it.

Do you seriously think HTC isn't in trouble? Are you kidding me????

I've been observing their finacial reports every quarterly announcement. I've also reviewed their balance sheet data as well. My response still stands as No.

Since I can backup my response, no I'm not kidding you. Care to prove me wrong?

I own the M7. A friend of mine has the Verizon M8 and I've had quite a bit of hands on time with it. Also, the comparisons I mentioned are all over with people who know how to use the camera.

If you like the camera, that's cool. My assessment still stands based on my own experience and the experience of people who compare these things for a living. I don't own an M8 because I don't think it's anything special. You clearly do. To each their own.

Re: I am returning my M8. Are you?

It is long, but if you have used a Note 3 the size doesn't even come close. I think it depends on what phone you are just coming from to the M8. To me the fact that it is as heavy as the Note 3 was a bit surprising, but it is metal and not plastic so that is understandable.

The size of the screen compared to the size of the phone really bugs me. Why put up with having such a large phone if not for a big screen? For me, it's not worth having the speakers. If I want great sound, I'll use headphones. I'd rather the screen covered as much area as possible.

Re: I am returning my M8. Are you?

Just to throw something into the conversation....

If you own the M8 then awesome! Continue onward..

If you own the M7 and have toyed briefly with the M8 via friend or store then please keep don't stir up debates with those who actually own the device. Everyone is welcome to post but keep in mind actual ownership of the device (in hand) is much more valuable then a few minutes or hour and then try and tell those who have it their opinions are false or wrong.

Thanks!

Well I have the the M8 and the pics are pretty bad, images look like I took them with a potato lol. Other than the camera it's a awesome phone. I don't know why people who have the M8 have to try to stick up for the poor camera? Plain and simple the camera is not on par. It's not the fault of the user, or lack there of photography knowledge. The camera is just bad. It does have nice software though.

I don't think people are sticking up for what you call a poor camera, most people are saying that the camera is good enough for them and what they will use it for.

I think some people are sticking up for the camera because a lot of people seem to think the camera isn't capable of taking a good shot, which is simply untrue. Is it the best camera in the world, heavens no, but you can still get some really nice shots

I have a question for the OP and others who find the size to be cumbersome. Did you find the size a hindrance when performing common task such as:

1. Inserting and removing from pockets.

2. Picking up the phone from a flat surface to answer a call.

3. Switching between portrait and landscape orientation.

Up until last week, I had a Nexus 5 (which I gave to my wife so I could get the M8). The pictures on the M8 aren't that bad in comparison to the Nexus 5. It's at least good enough for my uses, but I don't do anything special with my pics except post them once in a while. I had a Galaxy S4 last year and that thing took great pictures, much better than the M8 from what I could tell. But again, M8 camera is good enough for my purposes; the pictures come out nice and clear so far and I do like the camera software.

My biggest thing, and it's what I use my phone for most, is that the music sounds great over a pair of headphones. And I use the speakers all the time in my office to listen to music while I'm working. In that respect, it is MUCH better than the Nexus 5, in my opinion.

([inappropriate content deleted by moderator] - I've also had a Note 2, which was one of my favorite phones and may get the Note 4 later this year. And the Galaxy S5, especially with reports that its screen tests as the best out there, has really peaked my interest.)

1. I have had no issues with this. Slides right in and slides right out

2. I think this only may be an issue if you lay it on its screen. The curved back actually helps with this I'd it is on its back

3. One again, no issues.

These are my conclusions and don't represent everyone's opinion but to me, none of these are an issue I've experienced
