I am returning my HTC One (M8). Are you?

Their home country is irrelevant to big picture sales. Gary Oldman is irrelevant. They have enough money to hire a famous actor for a TV ad. That means nothing to what I'm saying.

HTC is in big trouble and the M8 isn't the solution.

All country's phone sales are relevant to big picture sales. In your opinion Gary Oldman is irrelevant, that doesn't mean that's everyone's opinion

Well I have ordered the M8, can't wait to get it. I just wanted to comment on the camera.
You probably DO NOT need more than 4 MP in a phone. I don't know of a single person making 8x10 prints from their phone snap shots.

What?, Are you serious? I don't carry anything else other than my Smartphone, and I have 2 daughters and we are frequently enjoying on Family trips, and you will tell me that in order to get my 8 X 10 Enlargements of those moments I'll need to carry a Digital camera because my Smartphone's Company just used a 6+ years technology on it?

Again, some of you are in denial mode, let's face it, it's a great looking phone, I was deciding between the M8 and the S5, but come on, Let's be honest, if the tables were turned and was Samsung doing the ridiculous 4MP (Ultrapixel) what do most of you would be thinking about that?

Like I've said, HTC dropped the ball big time, repeating a highly criticized feature on their Flaghship device it's a total MISTAKE and they will pay for it, sad but true.

Ummm 6+ year tech in the ultrapixel sensor? Tell me what other device has had that sensor 6 years ago? Whether your want to believe it or not, it is new tech. Just because it's only 4mp doesn't mean it's old. Also it isn't the same sensor as in the m7

It's not a single quarter. That's just the first link I found. Q4 was even worse for them.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'profitable'. Their earnings have gone done every quarter in 2013. Sure, the One is their best selling device to date, but that means little when your company is going down the drain.

I'm not writing HTC off, and honestly it's the last thing I want to have happen. But the M8 will do little to nothing to save them.

You are wrong. They've only had an operating loss (no profit) only once in the company's history.

Ehh, reading and understanding what you want... Clearly I'm talking about the OLD 4MP, no matter what you want to call it, ULTRA, SUPER, SUMA or whatever... it's still uses a 4MP camera, so good luck with that.

Again, for those of you trying to defend the impossible, good luck, until now I was still deciding between the M8 and the S5 but this is ridiculous how far some of you want to take this debate, just trying to justify your purchase or simply by hate...I've never been a One brand guy, whatever smartphone (or any other device or appliance or car, btw) that do and has what I want and am looking for that's the one I get, regardless the brand name, so I can honestly say that I'm objective, can you say the same?

You seem to be in denial here. Taiwan isn't a huge country and it probably helps HTC that Taiwan is their home country.

RDJ is a much more famous actor than Oldman and how did that work out??? That's my point. Having Gary Oldman in your TV ads as a sign that things are on the upswing is ridiculous.

Ugh another uninformed consumer. I can't really comment on the quality of the camera as I haven't used it yet BUT I can tell you with 100% certaintly that there are very few situations that you will be limited by the pixel count of the sensor. If you take care to compose your shots you will NEVER be limited. And yes, you can print acceptable 8x10 prints even though I'd guess less than .01% of users actually would even consider printing 8x10's from a camera phone shot.

Well there you go. All 4MP cameras are the same and none could possibly be quality devices. The camera marketing geniuses have done a real number on the masses.

4mp doesn't mean old, I've already stated that. You clearly base your opinions off of numbers if you think it is. The camera is actually really good. Is it the best? No, but nobody every said it was the best camera in the world.

I'm very subjective, I can completely admit that. That doesn't have anything to do with how well this camera works. If you don't like it that's fine, but to completely discredit it based off the fact that it's a 4mp sensor is just plain ignorant. Also you don't even own this device, I do, so I can base all of my replies on real world experiences.

Some of y'all just need to read the home page more often. In the recently posted comparison between the M8 and the N5 the former lost out to the N5 on picture detail. This is consistent with Phil's review and virtually every single review of the M8. It's undeniable at this point.

That being said the m8 is lightning fast in snapping photos and offers lots of camera gimmicks for people to play with, or ignore and stick with auto. Really depends on what folks are looking for.

You haven't used it so that's already a huge error since you're only guessing... But...

I think you're missing people's points. They aren't trying to take professional photos so they don't want to set it up. They want their kids running around playing and be able to pull the phone out and snap a quick few photos.. And have them look good without the setup.

Now it may be possible.. I'm not sure since I haven't got to play with the M8 yet but it isn't very polite to call people "uninformed" when you haven't even used the product yourself.

If I understand you correctly, you are implying that the casual user just wants to take a picture and get good results
Correct. That's the way it is with every other mobile phone camera I've ever used.
Well there you go. All 4MP cameras are the same and none could possibly be quality devices.
When you refer to 4mp cameras which are you talking about? I can't find any camera makers making 4mp cameras anymore.

Which is why you can set up all of the settings of the camera before hand and save it as a preset. You can save multiple presets and use them at will which makes it very easy to get good results on the fly

I'm only talking to the rubes that think it's not possible to have a quality camera with a 4 mp sensor. That's all. It is absolutely possible to have a 4 mp phone camera behave as you describe. Can the m8 deliver? With some of the samples I've seen, I'm hopeful.

I really don't see a lot of consumers taking the time to this. I think folks want to point and shoot and not have to tweak.

Just because they don't use it doesn't mean it isn't there. The argument is that you can't get a good photo by just pointing and shooting and that isn't the case if you set up your camera properly.

I agree that most people won't set it up, but that's why all these people have problems with it, they don't know how to set up a camera. You can't blame HTC for that

Huh? If competitive phones can do better in auto mode and the HTC requires tweaking that you admit most people won't do then certainly HTC can be blamed.

No, I'm saying that my 4mp digital camera was bought on 2003, that's what I mean, and I'm very sure of the picture quality of that as I still have it, and no, it can't compare with my 12MP that I bought 3 years ago.

I'm not here to debate, you buy what you want and that's that, I'll buy what I want, nothing else to say, none of you can tell me what my eyes what my eyes appreciate as good or better than something else, so again, and to end this, you buy what you want, and most of you have already bought it, I haven't so I still can decide and as of now, it has been removed of my options. Good luck to you all.

It may have lost in picture detail but they choose the m8 camera over n5
