I am torn between the LG V10 and Nexus 6P. Which one should I buy?

Reading all this over the past few days, it seems like it's getting a little ridiculous.

All three phones are excellent phones - 6P, Note 5, V10

  • They are all quick. Maybe there's a few milliseconds difference amongst them but overall, they are all similarly fast phones.
  • They are all very well made, premium phones (and most of us put a case on them)
  • All three have large, beautiful high resolution, high ppi screens (and keep in mind there's a point where the naked eye just can't perceive a difference)

They each have their "killer" feature which I think are:

  • 6P - pure android w/timely updates
  • Note 5 - the pen!
  • V10 - Excellent camera (I'm calling that extra display strip a gimmick, not a killer feature)

Yes, they each have lesser additional unique features. However, third party apps can usually fill in the gaps. Then there's "look and feel" which is completely subjective but that could be a difference that leads to a phone on its own.

Pick your killer feature and go with that phone. You can't really go wrong. This is a 6P forum so obviously people are going to lean hard toward the 6P.

I'd say removable battery and SD card is the killer feature for the V10. Great camera but when comparing the 3 that's what sets it apart most.

FWIW - here"s 'MKBHD' with his 2015 Smartphone awards. Lots of good ones out there and notice the one he picks at the end...

Again, one man's opinion... Just because he has a bunch of hits on his YouTube channel doesn't make his opinion any more valuable than anyone else's.

Look, the top tier is filled with phones that are, in an objective sense, equal. They are fast, easy to use, well made, take great pictures, etc. Any differences they have are subjective and there's no wrong answer. My best phone may not be your best phone, etc...

I'd go with the nexus 6p mostly 'cause i'm a nexus fan. but also because:

20 less might seem small, but one could buy a meal with it.
6p has a slightly higher batter capacity
Even though its camera has less mega pixels, it has a higher aperture, whilst the front facing camera definitely has more megapixels.
It has 1 gb less ram but it the cpu runs at a higher hz rate.
Oh yeah, and it also weighs slightly less.
And most noticeably it comes with Android 6.0

And the Verizon model can't be rooted smh I went with the nexus since it's not bloated it has better battery life it has better speakers and it can be used on all major carriers :) which my family and I have !!!!

The Note 5 is not on your list, but it's the best Android phone available.

Between the two you cited, I'd say V10. It's far more durable, and it has some really nice features you won't find in stripped-down feature-free crap vanilla Stock Android.

Again, this is an outdated argument. The quality Apps of today have changed all that. The biggest thing you are losing with Stock Android is the performance killing crap that manufacturers like to call features. Sorry, there are only a handful of minor features that you can't replace with an App and get even more function out of. Go near stock, add your Apps and not only have a way faster user experience without a bunch of garbage, get better overall features that you actually use with the Apps, move freely between carriers, and not worry about security.

The V10 is a great phone, but these days you will have a hard time saying you should buy it because it has more bloatware. Times have changed. Now go send your carrier more money, they love you.

couldn't have said it better myself ... the exynos might be faster in speed tests than the 810, but once you factor in everything else, and they're up and running in the real world, it's not even close.

how somebody can say a YouTube speed test is better proof than somebody that actually used both devices in the real world is unbelievable, but hey, whatever floats your boat ... I guess there are actually some people that really do believe everything they see on the internet.

You are both right. Bench marks are good for only one thing, to show the potential of a device. I am also into cars and I can't tell you how many people are into horsepower dyno numbers. They live and die by them. But when they hit the road with their 1000hp car, they get spanked by a 600hp car in the real world. Bench marks can't account for the crap that goes around it.

I see an article about how LG decided to use the 808 instead of the 810 that overheats. Is that what you're referring to?
no its varies articles i have read and done some research for a friend who is interested in getting a new phone but can´t buy a unlock has to go thru att under next plan. being a previous lg g3 owner i had many issues with overheating by that i mean well over 130 degrees under normal use not gaming or downloading or streaming movies. co worker bought the g4 luckly was able to return it under their 30 day return policy $35. for reboxing fees . the reason for the return was do too overheating back to the g3 i exchanged it three times and gave up after 4 months paid off device and got my n6 which yes i bias here i love the phone will be buying nexus 6p in months too come. so the v10 is plagued with the same curse of overheating

Life is very short, and there's no time... for fussing and fighting - my friend, by what you like and love what you bought.

samsung overrated, overplayed and boringggggggg!!!!!!!!!!! nexus 6p kills it

I can give my opinion had the 6P had to sell it regarding bad call quality I had on 3 different devices. I played with the V10 for a whole day. MY honest opinion is go with the 6P it will keep you happier for a longer amount amount of time.

All the new flagships come out with a ton of fanfare, 6 month to one year these devices get forgotten, while nexus devices stay relevant and up to date. Today the V10 is better 1 year from now not so much. Depends what you priorities are.

The durability issues concern me too. I will slap a case on the 6P when/if purchase it. But that does not address some of the rumoured issues with the rear visor I have heard about. The safest thing to do is purchase nexus protect along with the phone itself I suppose.

I'll never buy another LG phone after they screwed up the lg g2 with updates and then abandoned it (about a year and a half into its life cycle) when it was a mess

For how many years can a pure Android device be updated? I have a Note 2 under Jelly Bean. It has been updated to Kit Kat (2 years). That's all.

Re: I am torn between the LG V10 and Nexus 6P. Which one should I buy

Nope, not mistaken ... I'll take my real world experience vs your YouTube video any day of the week. The Note 5 isn't as quick or smooth as the 6p and that's a fact ... Enjoy your speed test videos, and I'll enjoy the fastest phone on the market!
Well in that case I'll enjoy the YouTube video that steered me to the LG V10 over the Nexus 6P because my real world experience reinforces the YouTube video that showed the LG V10 opening apps and games faster than the 6P.
