I am torn between the LG V10 and Nexus 6P. Which one should I buy?

I had the note 5 and just switched to the nexus 6p this is the best phone I have had In so long . I would definitely recommend the nexus 6p over any phone right now

I can't believe I just spent 2 minutes of my life watching that first "Speed Test" video. I had never actually watched one but since it was right there, I figured why not.

What I see is when there's a difference, it is in milliseconds. The majority of the major apps appear to open simultaneously or almost simultaneously.

I'll say it again - this is getting ridiculous. In everyday use, you are simply not going to notice any difference in speed unless you do exactly what is done in this video - buy both phones, lay them on a table and start opening apps simultaneously.

This miniscule difference in speed would not make a rational person pick one phone over the other. There are other more significant features that each phone has that should drive one's decision.

I have to stop reading this thread... ... ...

Some ideas In favor of the v10 - the LG SmartRemote IR software lets me [easily] control TVs and cable boxes. I use that more than I thought I would ever. I also swap battery when needed - when running to do something with low battery this is a great feature. The wide angle selfie camera is awesome. Throw out the selfie stick... or don't take selfies even better... The second screen has a couple of really good use cases that I have been getting used to like controls for camera, notifications while doing other work otherwise it's mostly out of the way.

Overheating was the major reason I opted for moto x pure vs lg v10, price of course too. I could not stand my phone getting hot, mind you..same processor. Never had an issue with overheating on the moto, so leads me to believe it's the lg software

The durability issues concern me too. I will slap a case on the 6P when/if purchase it. But that does not address some of the rumoured issues with the rear visor I have heard about. The safest thing to do is purchase nexus protect along with the phone itself I suppose.

amazing how a couple Reddit posts can mislead people. I think it's obvious those people weren't using cases and broke their visors instead of them simply randomly cracking.

After using my 6P, the only thing I do miss from my LG G3 the LG backup/restore function. But I am in the process of finding a 3rd party app like MyBackup Pro or Helium. I have TiBackup but my 6P isn't rooted so I'm looking at other solutions. I don't do cloud backups since I don't trust it. I like local storage.

Nexus Six P

Really it depends on what you're looking for. I personally have the V10 and love it.

V10 Pros:
Rugged Build
Expandable Storage
Replaceable Battery
Second Screen (Not as gimmicky as people saw)
Best Camera Software
Dual Front Screens
Fingerprint Scanner
Audiophile Quality Sound

Nexus 6P:
Best In Class Fingerprint Scanner
Android as Google Intended
Awesome Build Quality
Great Speakers
First to Get Android Updates

So really it's down to personal taste. Don't let everyone's rants about the LG UI sway you do much, it's actually pretty good.

Hi everyone! Thank you for all the help, I truly deeply appreciate it! I was leaning heavily twards the V10, and went to buy one as well. But the only model they had was a dual sim version for $100 more, and I didn't want to wait for shipping. It's the 31st you see :-P ... so I bought me a Nexus 6p 64GB (quite fitting for this forum no?) Now I'll go home and set it up, and let you guys know how it goes :-) Thanks again HEAPS! Have a lovely new year all of you!

Haven't read all 100+ posts, maybe redundant.

Sold my LG3 recently. I learned LG's don't hold resale value very well. Definitely something to consider.

Dbrand skins. I too iam not a fan of cases although I have had them I made the decision for my N6 to go dbrand and don't regret it..

Hey what style of skin have you got? can you post a picture of your Nexus 6P with the dbrand skin on it? I'm considering a dbrand skin currently, but I do not know if it will look the same on my phone as it looks on the computer screen :P

That's not a valid argument, the vast majority consumers don't care about even know about boot loaders.

It does for him -- everyone is discussing why they like one versus the other :).

I agree that the 6p is better. As others have mentioned one of the biggest benefits to a Nexus is frequent updates.

There is some truth in what you said. Although Nexus owners would never admit it, the 6P is a developers device and yes a test bed for Google. But both Google and this particular model phone have reached such a high level of quality, you would be hard pressed to know it. It is exceptionally good. Android M is just a medium bump up from L that it was easy to make it work well. How quickly people forget the nightmare of the Nexus 5 update to L. It is a legitimate buying consideration to recognize that the next update to N might not go so well for Nexus owners and that is part of owning a Nexus.

On the flip side, things have changed in security concerns for smart phones, so to answer your question about why people worry about upgrading immediately, there are very good reasons now to want an update. The reality is, even Googles security updates for Nexus devices are slow (monthly) by PC and Server standards and still keep a lot of devices unprotected for to long. In comparison to LG, which they rarely, if ever do a security update at all, or at least one that manages to get passed along through a carrier. This alone is a legit reason for buying a Nexus over LG and risking a botched upgrade down the road. Toss in that it is one of the best phones out currently, your argument doesn't stand up today. It is an old outdated argument.

There are people who buy the V10 that absolutely bought the right phone for them, because it is very nice and well made, but you can't toss the Nexus people under the bus for wanting the latest updates and upgrades.

i don't remember downgrading or saying anything negative about anyone, but if you took it that way, meh...to me, i'd rather have the bugs in the update worked out before they came to my phone...i'd rather not have a phone that works great, ruined by a half baked update
