My LG G3 was one of the best phones I have ever owned. LG makes an amazing camera. Took it with me through a China adventure. Great photos. Loved way it felt in hand, the buttons on the back, the tap to wake. Of course, it was loaded with AT&T and LG bloatware and unlikely to ever get another OS upgrade.
Then Stagefright hit. It took months for AT&T to release an update. Yeah, it was unlikely to affect me but it was still a hole. After that, I was pretty sure I'd never receive another update. Who knows if it would ever receive Marshmallow and it was only one year old.
I decided I was fed up with carrier phones. The timely updates was the hands down, primary reason I went Nexus. The software is the core of your daily experience with a phone and Google improves upon itself with each version. A Nexus phone can live on much longer when it is updated regularly by the designers of its OS.
The one thing no one asked though is if the update situation is as bad in your country as it is in the U.S.? In the U.S., carriers substantially delay updates and often abandon phones after about one year. Hence the easy decision for me to go Nexus.
What's it like in your country?
(oops - sorry for the long post)
I have a G Flex 2 on 5.1.1 (totally underrated by the way and doesn't get hot) and I have no issues with the UI. You can always download a new Launcher anyways. I'd go for the V10 based on the camera being better. Goggle Software upgrades are OVER rated as they frequently introduce problems...2 different generations of crappy Nexus 7's come to mind. I like the Tap on/off on the LG. With 4 gigs of ram and 64 gb of space, replaceable battery and micro SD.. and of course the best camera out there......go for the LG!!!!!
unlocked bootloader (which means running whatever the heck you want on your phone), updates before everyone else... no question is the Nexus 6P hands down. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything else. The 6P camera is great just read about it on dxo: Google Nexus 6P review: Serious contender for mobile photography - DxOMark
If you really need better pictures than that... use a frickin' DLSR like a Nikon.
I am In the States and I have the same decision to make: 6P or V10. I currently have a G4. I have always liked the LG UI, but I hate the delayed updates we suffer here. When it is just a software update, that is one thing. But when the carrier delays an update that addresses a software vulnerability, well that is a problem. So for me, I am leaning toward the Nexus 6P. It means giving up certain features: VoLTE, WiFi Calling, for example. The V10 has received excellent reviews and I almost purchased it. But the 6P is fast, smooth, cheaper, will feel like it is truly my phone, and for what I am giving up, is worth the speedy updates and lack of carrier interference.
I own a 6p, and my wife owns a v10. They each have pros and cons. As others have said, it depends on your needs. I came from an LG, so there are a lot of things I miss. The 6p feels just a bit better in my hand, except I do miss the volume buttons on the back on the LG. The LG will withstand a little more abuse, but it's also heavier. For me, the smoothness of the OS is better, and fingerprint sensor is great on the 6p. My wife loves the camera and removable battery on her v10. So, depending on priorities, and all being equal, the 6p costs less, you'll get quicker Android updates, so your choice may lean towards the 6p.
It comes down to the software. Nexus phones always get updates many months earlier than other Android phones and pure Android is much better than any manufacturer's customized version. The V10 probably has a better camera but the camera on the 6P is regarded as first rate. I never buy anything except Nexus phones because I don't want a phone company between me and my updates.
Well, like all phones, there are pros and cons. The V10 has a removable battery, SD card and is built to be a bit more rugged. But it's also LG, who still have issues getting their software to run right. I owned the G3 and the G4 and both, while excellent phones, were handcuffed a bit from a UI framework that really needs some optimization work. It has an excellent camera, but the difference between it and the 6P... or S6 and Note 5 for that matter, is negligible. All of those phones have improved to the point where it's the person using the camera, not the camera. Picking one over the other is pretty much a matter of personal taste as they all are neck and neck.
I've had the 6P for about two weeks now and I've been impressed....it is really really good. Unless a removable battery, SD card are paramount in your phone search (you can always slap a 6P in a case to make it more goof-proof), I can't really see any reason why you would pick a V10 over it. The V10 is an excellent phone, don't get me wrong, but the 6P, I think, is just better. Huawei slayed it.
As for updates. A few months ago, you could count me in as one of the people that thought fast updates weren't critical. Sure, getting the new features and bits was cool, but it was a WANT more than a NEED. I wanted to have the newest features soon, but it's not like it was that big a deal. But that changed once the scum and villainy of the digital crime world started giving mobile tech more of their attention. Updates, specifically SECURITY updates, is now extremely important.... and things change so rapidly that we really can't affort to sit around and wait 6 months for a patch to get released. We have yet to see a wide spread bit of maleware released... but that is a matter of when, not if. And I suspect it will most likely be an exploit that has already been discovered, and patched... but hackers know damn well that the vast majority of the phones out there may not see a fix for months, if ever.
Most everything else is subjective. Security isn't.
