I am torn between the LG V10 and Nexus 6P. Which one should I buy?

6P but if you don't mind the ugly LG software and don't care about fast updates then V10 is a great phone. But overall 6P is better experience and value.

The LG skin is not bad but it is just a different take on the ui and in my opinion not better then the basic google supplied one.

I have a G Flex 2 on 5.1.1 (totally underrated by the way and doesn't get hot) and I have no issues with the UI. You can always download a new Launcher anyways. I'd go for the V10 based on the camera being better. Goggle Software upgrades are OVER rated as they frequently introduce problems...2 different generations of crappy Nexus 7's come to mind. I like the Tap on/off on the LG. With 4 gigs of ram and 64 gb of space, replaceable battery and micro SD.. and of course the best camera out there......go for the LG!!!!!

My LG G3 was one of the best phones I have ever owned. LG makes an amazing camera. Took it with me through a China adventure. Great photos. Loved way it felt in hand, the buttons on the back, the tap to wake. Of course, it was loaded with AT&T and LG bloatware and unlikely to ever get another OS upgrade.

Then Stagefright hit. It took months for AT&T to release an update. Yeah, it was unlikely to affect me but it was still a hole. After that, I was pretty sure I'd never receive another update. Who knows if it would ever receive Marshmallow and it was only one year old.

I decided I was fed up with carrier phones. The timely updates was the hands down, primary reason I went Nexus. The software is the core of your daily experience with a phone and Google improves upon itself with each version. A Nexus phone can live on much longer when it is updated regularly by the designers of its OS.

The one thing no one asked though is if the update situation is as bad in your country as it is in the U.S.?
In the U.S., carriers substantially delay updates and often abandon phones after about one year. Hence the easy decision for me to go Nexus.

What's it like in your country?

(oops - sorry for the long post)

This is exactly the reason I'll only buy Nexus phones.

the LG camera is better but the 6p is no slouch. expandable storage and removable battery, obviously the 6p doesn't compete.

and I do think software updates are a bit overrated, but I'd rather get them sooner than later regardless. 6.0 and 6.0.1 have been flawless for me. 5.0 was a mess, but let's not forget that when you're phone does have an issue, let's take the Note 4 for example, months can go by before there's a fix. And a lot of the issues arise from customized skins, so LG, Samsung, etc can have issues that aren't present on a Nexus.

In my opinion, get the note 5 or S6 edge plus. They are the most powerful phones available on android. With marshmallow update soon to come, it can only get better.

For me it comes down to software amd camera. Software wise the 6P wins, hands down. For the camera it depends what you usually use it for. For stills, there's not so much difference, though the second screen would allow better manual controls. For video, OIS in the V10 should make a difference. I've gotten some very shaky results with the 6P.

I am In the States and I have the same decision to make: 6P or V10. I currently have a G4. I have always liked the LG UI, but I hate the delayed updates we suffer here. When it is just a software update, that is one thing. But when the carrier delays an update that addresses a software vulnerability, well that is a problem. So for me, I am leaning toward the Nexus 6P. It means giving up certain features: VoLTE, WiFi Calling, for example. The V10 has received excellent reviews and I almost purchased it. But the 6P is fast, smooth, cheaper, will feel like it is truly my phone, and for what I am giving up, is worth the speedy updates and lack of carrier interference.

unlocked bootloader (which means running whatever the heck you want on your phone), updates before everyone else... no question is the Nexus 6P hands down. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything else. The 6P camera is great just read about it on dxo: Google Nexus 6P review: Serious contender for mobile photography - DxOMark

If you really need better pictures than that... use a frickin' DLSR like a Nikon.

Same thing I said earlier in the thread.
To me it boils down to control.
Do you want total control of the hardware you own?
If so, you only have one choice, a non-carrier phone.
Now that could be a Moto X-Pure or the 6P, etc., but the bottom line is that you own it.
I can do what I want, run what I want, root if I want.

As far as the camera, it's good.
If I want a better camera, I have a Samsung NX300 or my Canon 7D.

Well, like all phones, there are pros and cons. The V10 has a removable battery, SD card and is built to be a bit more rugged. But it's also LG, who still have issues getting their software to run right. I owned the G3 and the G4 and both, while excellent phones, were handcuffed a bit from a UI framework that really needs some optimization work. It has an excellent camera, but the difference between it and the 6P... or S6 and Note 5 for that matter, is negligible. All of those phones have improved to the point where it's the person using the camera, not the camera. Picking one over the other is pretty much a matter of personal taste as they all are neck and neck.

I've had the 6P for about two weeks now and I've been impressed....it is really really good. Unless a removable battery, SD card are paramount in your phone search (you can always slap a 6P in a case to make it more goof-proof), I can't really see any reason why you would pick a V10 over it. The V10 is an excellent phone, don't get me wrong, but the 6P, I think, is just better. Huawei slayed it.

As for updates. A few months ago, you could count me in as one of the people that thought fast updates weren't critical. Sure, getting the new features and bits was cool, but it was a WANT more than a NEED. I wanted to have the newest features soon, but it's not like it was that big a deal. But that changed once the scum and villainy of the digital crime world started giving mobile tech more of their attention. Updates, specifically SECURITY updates, is now extremely important.... and things change so rapidly that we really can't affort to sit around and wait 6 months for a patch to get released. We have yet to see a wide spread bit of maleware released... but that is a matter of when, not if. And I suspect it will most likely be an exploit that has already been discovered, and patched... but hackers know damn well that the vast majority of the phones out there may not see a fix for months, if ever.

Most everything else is subjective. Security isn't.

Seems like the same answers over and over. And I would agree. Both are great phones. I would say that it really boils down to two major things.

1) Form factor. Tough and robust V10 vs. Full Metal and more refined 6P

2) OS - LG's Overlay Android vs. Stock, clean, and well matured Android

I really like the V10 myself, I just can't do another LG with their overlay. It is just terrible. I have a G3 now and ended up rooting and rom'ing it. It is a lot of work and it does pay off, but I am considering a new phone and love LG hardware, I just can't suffer through their overlays anymore.

If I had to pick between them, as much as I would like a tougher phone then what I think the 6P would provide, I would pick the 6P. In other words, for me, form and build are less important then my software experience. Plus, the 6P is right there with the V10 or beyond it in the hardware area.

I thought I would give you a perspective of someone who is considering the same phones and doesn't currently own either.

Both phones are available without any carrier contract or bloat on it. The V10 is the international version. Plus there are no CDMA networks here, just 3G in most parts of the country, and 4G in major metropolitan areas.

Its great to see so much love for both these phones, especially for the 6P. However I am also concerned about the durability of the Huawei. I tend to drop my phones sometimes, and just leave them in general places like on the table or the dashboard of my car, unattended for long durations of time. And I also hate cases (though that's just a personal pet-peeve). Though I also game on my phone on occasion, and the 810 definitely beats the hell out of the 808 on paper. Damn, so confusing!

Ok so I got my 64GB Nexus 6P in October and I, like you, hate cases. I've never had one. I was a bit worried about the build quality and whether it would stand up to normal wear and tear. Mine has slid a couple of times whilst in the car, and there are no marks on the phone. It is built pretty solidly, and I don't think the construction of the phone in this case makes that much of a deal. It seems as susceptible to nicks and scratches as any other all-metal phone.

As for the phone itself (what's inside), it's absolutely brilliant. The quick updates are amazing (with Samsung I'd be waiting another 6 months just for 6.0.1, and the phone is properly fast. I'm very happy with my purchase, and would recommend the phone to anyone.

I own a 6p, and my wife owns a v10. They each have pros and cons. As others have said, it depends on your needs. I came from an LG, so there are a lot of things I miss. The 6p feels just a bit better in my hand, except I do miss the volume buttons on the back on the LG. The LG will withstand a little more abuse, but it's also heavier. For me, the smoothness of the OS is better, and fingerprint sensor is great on the 6p. My wife loves the camera and removable battery on her v10. So, depending on priorities, and all being equal, the 6p costs less, you'll get quicker Android updates, so your choice may lean towards the 6p.

Thank you for your input. I am guessing you will be the better judge here for side by side comparison. I have a couple of questions:

1. Camera performance: for both video and still shots, which phone has the faster/better camera for everyday use? I take a lot of photos and videos with my phone and that would be a deal breaker.

2. Gaming: do you use your phone for gaming? how does the SD 810 with 3GB RAM compare to SD 808 with 4GB?

3. Fingerprint sensor: how do they compare against each other in terms of spontaneity and accuracy? do you reckon a future software update would iron out the glitches on either device?

Ok, I have both and it's very simple. If you want a phone with a good camera, good front facing camera, newest 810 processors, fast update, no carrier bloatware, LOUD front facing speakers, amoled display, usb c for future proofing, all metal build quality, great fingerprint scanner, newest os than the choice is Nexus 6p. If you want complete control of your cameras and videos functions like a dslr, decent build quality, two front facing cameras, second display with quick options, hi-fi audio when headphones are pulled in, removable batteries, very dim displays, older 808 processors, 4gb of ram, but if you use a case the fingerprint scanner doesn't work as well, removable storage and a ir blaster than the lg v10 might be for you. I got a really good deal on both of my lg v10. verizon had a promotion for $400 off and lg sends you an additional $100 gift card with a extra battery and a 64gb card. Both lg v10 were almost free for me. I use both phones nexus 6p and the lg v10 as my daily drivers and like them both .

It comes down to the software. Nexus phones always get updates many months earlier than other Android phones and pure Android is much better than any manufacturer's customized version. The V10 probably has a better camera but the camera on the 6P is regarded as first rate. I never buy anything except Nexus phones because I don't want a phone company between me and my updates.

This is why I buy Nexus as well. You can't rely on these companies and carriers to get you to two years. They stop updating after sixteen months most of the time. And the update process is soo slooww.

Agree, it is just a matter of when, not if. And when it happens, it'll be nice to know that your Nexus will have a patch ASAP. It will be a big blow to Android when hundreds of millions devices are affected, for six weeks or so, but the Nexus are fixed in a matter of days sometimes. I'll take that over the other option anytime.

I've had both for a while and I ended up returning the 6P and stayed with the V10. The 6P was great but it was just a tad too big for my taste. Without a case the phone is way too slippery whereas in the v10 you don't need a case because of the rubberish material backing. I also really missed the double tap to turn on/off feature on the V10 and the second wide lens camera.

A couple things I miss about the 6p - this is very subtle but the resolution screen shows a little bit more than the V10. When I went back to the V10 it looked like everything was zoomed in a tiny bit. The fingerprint sensor was also much better than the V10.
