I bit the bullet and ordered. Even though The S8 is going to blow it away.

Speed tests show that isn't true. In fact, Samsungs are as fast as iPhones at pretty much anything that isn't a game or image editing.

Speed tests? I have a Note5 (that I love), and an S7 edge (that my wife loves), but they ARE slightly slower to open apps, and prone to some lag, and the simple fact is that after playing with the Pixel XL, and a Moto Z, they are just smoother and faster. It's just a function of how much "stuff" Sammy has crammed in there

The S8 is going to blow it away. I'm leaving Verizon for fi full time. Ill use a data only sim in my S7 edge. My ship date was Monday the 24th.
Sorry for the dumb question, but why are people using a "data only sim" and how does that work cost wise?

Yeah if the S8 doesn't blow UP first :p ... I'll stay away from Samsung permanently now, thank you. I was possibly considering some sort of Samsung for my next upgrade, but, now, with all of this going on with their former Note 7, that's only solidified my loyalty to the HTC brand. The fact that HTC's made this round of newly christened Pixel phones is all the better for me.

Re: I bit the bullet and ordered. Even though - - -

I'm not sure the S8 will be THAT big of an improvement...phones are plateuing pretty hard. I mean this phone is over 6 months newer and the camera is barely any better than the S7. We'll see. All I know is I am LOVING all these great cameras!

So a phone being milliseconds quicker in opening some app gives it blows away bragging rights? More to it than that imo. People think iPhone is the fastest out there doesn't mean I want one as my go to device. Best phone is the one that works for you the best in the ways you need the most Never had an issue waiting a second or two between camera shots.

Unfortunately the S8 will also blow your face off, and melt it. Not to worry though, the S9 and s10 will be much better. My condolences to your wallet.

Well I'm pretty sure you can find Youtube videos to support whatever you want to support. :-)

I posted the videos I posted because they show real world use. The races like you posted show the iPhone winning each one because iPhones handle GPU-dependent games and image editors better than Android phones do. That advantage in gaming and image editors compounds over time making the difference seem larger than it truly is. I choose the more realistic videos.

Most reviews I've seen said it isn't better than the S7's camera

Real life event test. My wife has an S7 edge and I have a Moto X 2014. Her camera normally takes way better pics than mine. However, we took the kids to an outdoor Halloween event last weekend and it was dark. The kids were in front of a lit up giant pumpkin and she could not get a picture that didn't dark out the kids. After about 5 mins we tried my phone and on the first try it took a good photo in the low light the kids were well lit and you could easily see the pumpkin as well and each pic after turned out as good.

I would love to try replicating that event with the Pixel when i get it!

I couldn't believe how bad the UI was on the Note 7. I gave into the hype when it was announced and ordered one. The build quality was one of the best I have seen but the software was all over the place and the bloatware was still present. the UI lagged too in spots it shouldnt have

That was my biggest issue with it. I loved the design and feel of the phone. It's too bad the battery issue happened, as I would have liked to compare it to the Pixel. Having said that, even if the camera was better on the Note 7, I know I still would have preferred the Pixel. In the videos I've seen, the Pixel is super fast and smooth. That's one of the things I secretly liked about the iphone over Android, the smoothness. Now it looks as if Android 7.1 on the Pixel has reached that level of operation, if not surpassing the iphone. :)
