I cannot type on this phone

I guess I would ask what is causing your inability to type? Is it too wide for one handed typing? Are all the possible keyboards messing up words for you? If the Samsung keyboard, Gboard, and SwiftKey are all failing you, I'm really curious why. There are one handed modes if that's the issue. You can enlarge the keys if you aren't hitting the right letters.

When I press the keys the one next to it is often what shows up. I've noticed some lag so I have to type slower than previous phones which sometimes helps. I can give Swiftkey a shot.

Having another issue with gBoard that's happened several times this week. When I try to type, the keyboard is completely missing there's no letters. I have to either restart the phone or force close gBoard and restart. I've never been more frustrated with a phone.

I don't understand how you guys are having so many issues typing on this phone. I haven't had a single issue, whether it be the Samsung keyboard, G board or my go to SwiftKey. I actually have to shrink the keyboard size down because the larger sizes look too comically out of place. No issues touch typing, swiping or using SwiftKey Flow to type entire sentences without lifting my finger.

I'm struggling. Going from the wide iPhone 6S+ to the S8 is killing my texting. If I had bought the S8+ I'm thinking I'd be fine but I really hate carrying such a large phone in my pocket and am trying to go a bit smaller. Swift key has been mostly negative. It always gets my words wrong as wrong can be. Voice to text is not nearly as good as it is on iOS.

SO... Yeah a bummer so far.

I second, third and fourth SwiftKey. You can resize to the biggest keyboard around.

The predictive power is superior to all other keyboards. It's a no brainer--w/due respect to others who favor other keyboards

i actually like the Samsung keyboard, but I think the narrow-ness of the phone causes issues

Never had typing issues on smaller screen phones. I've tried Gboard which was marginally better than Samsung keyboard. It's incredibly frustrating trying to type accurately. Are there any better keyboards or solutions?

It's been asked before, but what is the issue you are having? It might help us assist you if we knew what the problem was.

I posted my issues on the other page. When I'm hitting the letters I'm often getting the one next to it. There's also lag from when I type to when the letter shows up so my words are being misspelled. Sometimes gBoard completely disappears and there's a white box where the keyboard would be and I have to restart. The Samsung keyboard was worse completely unusable. I'll try swiftkey.
Coming from a much smaller screen iPhone I never had any issues typing. I've had smaller screen Android's in the past too without issues. It has something to do with this phone. As I'm typing now almost every word is bring misspelled.

Maybe delete the Gboard app, optimize phone in settings & download the Gboard app again. I did not like the stock keyboard. Tried Swiftkey but ultimately went with Gboard. No issues at all.

Everyone likely knows this except me, but I just recently found out that I can ask Swiftkey keyboard not to show irrelevant word suggestions by simply long pressing on the suggested word or part word that I no longer want it to suggest. I have to admit Swiftkey has come a long way.

Samsung's keyboard is honestly too bad imho, no wonder you'd have issues with it.
I've used swiftkey for years now : best prediction i've seen and custom options are pretty usefull.
Did hear alot of good about gboard too though i haven't used it.

I installed Swiftkey. It's the first non-stock keyboard I've ever used and it's worlds better than the stock one on the S8.

In the past the Samsung stock keyboard never gave me problems. The one on the S8 is just awful. It's almost unusable.

I'm pleasantly surprised by Swiftkey. It's what the stock keyboard used to be. Good predictions and autocorrect, but it's not too aggressive with autocorrect. If you change something back it keeps it that way, unlike the stock keyboard, which will continue to fight you.

My biggest problem with changing screen sizes has always been muscle memory. Basically my thumbs get used to letters being at certain distances and that's why I end up tapping the letter next to what I wanted.

The other thing I've found with wider phones is that wider keyboards push your thumbs further out from center. Everyone will be different but at some point your thumbs are no longer comfortable reaching characters at the edge since they're too close to the rest of your hand. I'd be interested to see if more mistakes happen with characters near the edge of the screen.

That all makes sense, but it's the phone. I've used smaller Android's and iPhones and never had typing issues. Just as I'm typing this almost every other word is misspelled or jumbled. Like my spacebar doesn't even work all the time.

Have you ever tried the thumb layout in Swiftkey? I have been trying it out lately since I type with two thumbs and it seems to work well so far.

Honestly, it sounds like you're having some kind of deeper issue with the phone. There is no reason that Gboard wouldn't show the keys and unless you're fingers are huge, you shouldn't be hitting any keys next to another one. I would strongly suggest you go to a carrier store and try typing on a floor model there. See if you still have these issues. You may have gotten a defective phone or something. The issues you're describing are weird. You're the first one in any forum I've seen with the issues you describe. Have you sideloaded any apps on the phone?

Spelling is very good here with Gboard. But my fingers are simply too big for this phone and typing on it. Never had this before, and I doubt it's because of the width and edges.

I'm reading the gBoard reviews in the app store and a lot of people are having my same issues with force closing, keyboard disappearing, lag, stutter.
