I cracked my screen!!

entitlement is one thing.. using it as an excuse to have zero thriftyness is another. you keep paying insurance companies.. ill spend my money on other things.

Its not being thrifty assuming that Verizon has any responsibility whatsoever to 'help you out' if you break your phone. If your phone breaks, I sincerely hope Verizon tells you to hit the bricks if you try and con them into giving you a new phone.

since youve never used insurance, and youve paid for it for years im assuming.. you have already spent more then you would of if you happen to have needed to replace a phone.

and furthermore.. insurance is awful.. my friend just bought a razr with a 150 dollar insurance plan from best buy.. hes been stuck with a pantech replacement for the past few weeks and is waiting on a refurb razr.. its crap.

I would rather not have insurance.. if I break my phone.. ill call up Verizon and they can either help me out or lose a customer.. Im not going to pay them 200 a month if I dont have a phone.

Best buy's warranty sucks. Verizon's is in a whole other league. Unlike Best Buy, Verizon will not ask for your phone back until you have a replacement in hand. They don't bother trying to 'fix' it, they just replace it.

Just wait till the part becomes available. Then either fix it yourself or have a shop do it for you. If you just need a new digitizer, it should be way cheaper than a new phone.

I've used insurance on almost every smart phone I've owned. At the one year point when the Galaxy Nexus is upgraded to a Galaxy Nexus S (or what ever upgrade) after a few months the OG Nexus will replaced by this upgrade through Asurion. At that point my Nexus will get lost! Its a good way to get an upgrade or $99.

And I never mean to loose it.

Pretty sure that's called "insurance fraud." You are why insurance rates are so high.

I guess i'm just one lucky fool. Never had insurance on any of my phones. Never a case either. Never dropped it. Never needed a replacement outside the initial warrant period. I did the math a couple months ago, with all the phones on my account and over the many years I would have paid $5,000 in insurance fees. I didn't calculate how much saved by not buying a case.

I'm money ahead should I be to replace my phone, I'll just use stone of that money I have in my pocket over the years.... I would most likely by a used phone off eBay or craigslist and save some $$$.

I probably just jinxed myself :D

When I broke the glass on my Thunderbolt, I replaced the digitizer with one I bought from Amazon for $32 including shipping. Replacing just the digitizer was a pain since it was taped to the LCD panel, so if I had to do it again, I would replace the glass and LCD together for about $60. Replacing the glass and LCD together would have been a 10 minute job.

However, from what I've read in the various galaxy nexus teardown articles out there, the glass, LCD, and front bezel are fused together and would have to be replaced as a single part. This would make it a little more expensive, but will make it even easier to replace, since you just have to move the circuit boards from the old screen/bezel to the new one.

Based on the prices I've seen for screen replacements on other phones, I expect that 6 months from now, a replacement screen/bezel will be less than $100. I've seen some advertised now for several hundred dollars, but I don't know for if they are for the Verizon or GSM version or if it matters beyond the color of the bezel.

Thats a nice attitude to have. First of all insurance is not offered by Verizon and it never has. It is offered to a customer as protection and you pay Asurion (or others) just as you would a vehicle. If you don't have an accident then great, but if you do then you and the other person (if there is one) are covered. That is what insurance is. If you wreck your car and dont have insurance you don't call Chevy or Ford (or whomever) and demand that you get your car replaced or they will lose a customer.

You and the many others that attempt to take advantage of things are part of the reason (the other part is just the ungodly amount that these companies charge for wireless services) that the rates for services are where they are today. You can't just have an attitude that you won't pay for the service and then if you have a problem that you caused like breaking a phone and then demand that a company replace it or lose a customer. You can do that, but I promise you that your tantrum will fall on deaf ears. Verizon gives you the opportunity to buy a service to protect your expensive investment and if you don't take advantage then you better be really careful cause you won't get them to give you a brand new phone when you broke the device. If its a warranty situation then I see your logic, but I just cant believe how many people have the attitude of if you dont get your way then call and throw a tantrum and threaten to leave their service as it causes higher prices for everyone else. Oh well I guess some people just think they deserve everything, right?

See, the difference is that I don't have the sense of entitlement that you have.

And I don't mind paying insurance since I get a discount on my bill, so even with insurance I'm paying less than what I (and others with the same plan) would normally pay.

+1 sir. It is horrible the way people feel that because they pay money to a company that they feel that when something happens to their device they "deserve" to be treated special. Good luck on your phone my friend. This also happened to me with my Nexus One and I didnt have the opportunity to purchase insurance. It was too good a phone to not get another. Now I pay for insurance as even if you dont end up using it is worth having for things like this.

I wouldn't be too sure that someone wouldn't do that. The sense of entitlement of some is just too great.

If you break your phone and then buy insurance and file on the phone you are a thief. Pretty simple. That is the kind of person who can justify anything for self gain. A good type to identify and then make sure they have nothing to do with you and yours. There will come a day they can justify sticking it to you in one way or another.

Apparently you don't have any respective for the law. What you are describing is fraud plain and simple.

gotta love the geniuses that post their intentions to commit insurance fraud on a public internet forum lol :-!

btw, i don't think the guy realizes that they will replace his "lost" GN with a refurb GN lmao

I can't understand why people complain about $7 per month for insurance. They claim they do the math and say it's not worth it. This is less money than they'll spend on lunch tomorrow and wouldn't think about taking a Goober sandwich to work to save money.

If you don't buy insurance and you crack your screen then don't whine about it. Man up and pay the the money to fix it and quit telling us all how much money you saved.

Jeesh!

I know, I know, don't you have insurance? Nope. Have NEVER broken a phone in my life and couldn't stomach the monthly fee (you do realize you pay over $600 for this phone already with the contract...it's an embedded payment plan). Anyho, Murphy's law. My case was back-ordered on Amazon and showed up the day AFTER I dropped it in the driveway. Still works, just and upper 1/4 of the screen has spiderweb cracks.

I've taken to repair shops who say parts aren't even available yet. They recommended just trying to sell it on eBay. Verizon had no sympathy and simply said, "oh well, new one will cost you $650". I am not paying $1200 for a phone! Last time I pass on insurance as well.

Anyone ever end up in this position with a phone before? What is best option at this point? Help!:'(

pick one up on ebay and i do not have insurance myself.. i did have but before i upgraded to a smart phone i had an old lg vx 8000.. good phone but when flipped open the seal was spreading..so i swapped off and got a piece of crap not worth the ins. money spent.. they canceled on 1 phone and i told hell no not one .. but both since i had added another phone..

think about it.. 14 a month for ins.. then if you use it twice no matter which phone.. they wanna cancel and they dont even have the phone you bought..
write me i think i'll start insuring phones.. send something to replace insured phs with a cheaper model.. yea ,, 100 grand to start collect 5 bucks each ph .. thats 500 grand a month .. after 1 mth .. i can afford to replace with good phones... refurbish old ones and walla easy money.. biggest scam ever..
