I don't care what they say, removable batteries are where its at.

For many.......some that are selling....or some that are buying a used phone...................

Having the ability to purchase a heavily discounted phone that is still close to par for todays tech level.......the ability to get last years top shelf tech for cheap...then having the ability to use it with a new battery is awesome. So many phones that have non-removable batteries are not options in this scenario.

So having a phone with removable batteries does have the effect of having a higher resell value in this day and age of top end tech changing so rapidly. So for those of us that buy their phones like this and save tons of $.....I highly value a removable battery for many reasons.

That's a really good point. I hadn't thought about that!

I don't care what they say, having a removable battery actually turns me off on a phone. The opportunity cost is WAY too high and the problem a removable battery solves went away over 3 years ago.

Removable batteries serve a purpose to those who take advantage of what they offer.
If you change phones constantly, they are not for you.
If you are able to charge as needed, they are not for you.

Personally, I think stuff like removable batteries and quick charging should complement and support good battery life.

I don't think they're a good excuse for average to poor battery life.

Who said anything about poor battery life? This phone makes very good use of the 2800 battery.

That was the whole of me starting this thread.... I don't care what the non beleivers say.

But the non believers are free to post their opinions just the same :).

Did I say you or anyone else couldn't post?

I see very little difference in carrying around and having to charge a spare battery versus just using a battery pack.

"But I don't want the cable dangling"
"But it's a hassle to have it plugged in"

I can get quite a bit of charge in 15 minutes if my phone is close to dead and I use my battery pack.

15 minutes. Not a very long time.

"But other people use my battery pack too"

So use the word "no" more. :)

Plus there is zero wear on any part of my phone that isn't already designed for it. I had a G4, and did change the battery every so often. I stopped when I noticed that the back of the phone was not fitting as tight as it should be.

"But you can replace the back"

I shouldn't have to. Now the cost of ownership has went up that much more.

Yeah... external packs have improved a ton the past few years. You can get them that not only can charge multiple devices at once, they can do so using any number of fast charging tech. I have a RavPower 20K pack that acts as my workhorse. It's the QC 2.0 model that also does USB-C PD, so it can pump a fair amount of sparky juice into both my 6P and my wife's S7.

I was in Disney earlier in the year and my wife had a G4 at the time... I had a spare battery and cradle and I will say that it was a bit convenient to be able to swap out the battery with a fresh one and then charge it in the cradle using the battery pack. But I also had my 6P... and her G4 was already well on its way through the second battery's charge before I needed to pop mine on the charger for a quick top off... and it was pretty quick, mind you. So while having the removable battery was kind of nice, the lack of one on my 6P was a non-factor because it went a lot farther on a charge.

Now, I will say that a non-removable battery combined with a phone with poor power performance (like the G4 and S6 for example)... OK.. yeah. But provided you have a phone that is bit more miserly with power, if you can fast charge using a battery pack... Sure, it might be a little bit less convenient, but it puts removable batteries waaay down the list of features I would look at.

Oh, and like Kev here said, I would be nervous as anything yanking the bottom of the G5 off constantly. Eventually that thing's going to start loosening up and not fitting right.

All good thoughts however with a charging pack you can't instantly go to 100 percent and you if you are almost down to zero you may not be able to fully charge unless you have a huge pack.

Is the goal to get to 100 or to make it to the end of the day?

You have to sleep eventually right? I can plug my pack in overnight if I'm not around a wall charger. If that's the case, what will you do when your spares die? I have much more capacity in my pack than you do your spares.

Well, the pack I have has a 20K capacity... so effective capacity is closer to 16K, enough to fully charge BOTH my 6P and the S7 three times each. But a full charge isn't really needed. And the times where I used it a ton, like on vacation, there were plenty of opportunities to get fairly large chunk of charge in there with a quick little top off during some downtime. And you don't have to fill that thing to 100 every time you charge it. All it had to do was get me to the end of the day... that's it. And that was really easy to do with a a fast charging external pack.... really, there was little to no inconvenience.

To be frank, I wouldn't waste my time or effort responding to them. They don't get it and won't ever concede a single one of our points as detailed below:

A user-replaceable battery is about freedom; freedom to use the phone as hard as you want knowing there's a fully charged spare (or spares if you so choose) always at the ready to get back to an immediate full charge again (I use this often where I'm out and about all day and take a spare battery along). Freedom to use and abuse a battery without worry for its longevity since it can be easily replaced at minimal cost (no built-in obsolescence!). Freedom to never have to connect the phone itself to a charging source leaving it always untethered free to be used anytime (without a cable or charging pack connected to it).

Some people like removable, some people don't care or don't want it. Want what you like, buy what you want, love what you bought. LG has two 2016 phones out with removable batteries for those that need it. They're the lone ranger this year, which is fine with me, but for those that need that feature - hopefully that gives LG some customers.

Most people don't have a pack that large but thanks for you input

Lol, apologies but that sounds like damage control or trying to keep the thread in check. It's funny and ironic to me as it wouldn't have been needed if so many with green badges hadn't road in and taken over the thread with unneeded debate. Guess you guys just couldn't let us have it to ourselves to enjoy.... :(

I say this on a regular basis, probably every couple of weeks or so: "Want what you like, buy what you want, love what you bought". Sometimes it changes slightly, but I've been saying it for years. It's kind of my thing, an older twist on "Be Together, Not the Same". When saying that, I mean let's definitely have a vigorous debate on what OEM's ought to do, etc... but at the end of the day, buy what you want, don't let others here tell you what you should or shouldn't want.

As for the rest of it, we encourage our ambassadors and moderators (and all regular members) to engage in conversation on all topics that they're interested in, so long as it is done in a polite and respectful tone. Our first job as volunteers is simply to participate in the community. We're all nerds here and there's no requirement for the "green badges" to avoid conversations just because someone doesn't want their opinions to be heard. Quite the contrary, we welcome the dissent and conversation because it brings more ideas to the table. In this thread, some people may not have realized that you can buy a 20,100 mAh battery for under $50 and charge your phone for a week off it. That may encourage them to check out devices they may have otherwise ignored.

If the purpose of a post is just to create one side of an argument and never have anything challenge it, the proper place for that post is in a person's diary or on their own website with closed comments. A public forum is a place that sparks dialogue and expecting 100% agreement throughout the world on any topic probably just isn't realistic. As long as we're all sharing in a civil manner, sharing opinions, including dissenting opinions, is a good thing IMO.
