I got an Android, but want to go back to the iPhone. Why is this?

Why did you get an S4 if you don`t necessarily like everything about it?

The S4 is a good phone with a good accessory ecosystem and good dev support. Hate TouchWiz? Have some Slim or CM.

I have two jailbroken 5s' that I'm quite fond of but I'm sure given enough time I could find something don't like about them. No phone is perfect unless your criteria is quite limited.

The End Of The Jailbreak Era Is Upon Us

Apple is set to release IOS 7.1 any day now and as many jailbreakers now know thanks to access to the IOS 7.1 beta, this new IOS update will include patches that break the evasi0n jailbreak tool for good. This means that we?re likely to see a lengthy period, maybe even as long as a year, before another jailbreak is released.

7.1 was released today. I've not moved any of my devices yet. Well, there'll be some unhappy folks that just may sit on 7.0.6 for a while but I'll prolly update within the next month.

I went ahead and took the Air and one 5s up to 7.1. The rMini and other 5s are already jailbroken on 7.0.6.

been an iphone user my whole life.

Really?
Your whole life?
Does your mom know you're playing with her phone?

Because you're the proverbial fence sitter. You will never be happy with whatever choice you make. For you the grass will always be greener on the other side of the fence.

That being the case I would simply toss a coin if I were you. Because for you it doesn't matter either way.

Yeah, no android OEMs seem to think advertising is worth it but perhaps I've just not been watching TV at the right times or looking in the right magazines.

If they were far ahead they would be outselling the iPhone by a wide margin...Apple is still the best selling phone in the US despite the fact that it only does half as much as the Samsung phone and costs the same. That takes great marketing.

Dose the rest of the world not count?

Nothing is stopping you from jail breaking your iPhone. However, there is also nothing stopping Apple from patching these jailbreaks, since they are technically exploiting loopholes in the OS, and so are a possible security threat.

It's not like Apple is holding a gun at your head and forcing you to download 7.1 and lose your jailbreak. You have to make your choice and decide which you value more.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Jeff: they ARE outselling the iPhone by a wide margin! A superwide margin!
Android's worldwide marketshare is well over 70%, and growing. iOS' market share hovers around 20%, and is stable!

Apple is still the best selling phone in the US

Big deal! The US is not the whole world, you know. The US represents less than 5% of the world's population!

Some would argue the best 5%. Not I, but many would.

I was talking about sales of a specific model of phone, not OS sales.

And in spite of that is one of the largest markets in the world.

Which is one of the reasons I do not like Apple.

Google treats it's users like adults. They are not constantly throwing roadblocks in my way to try to keep me from using the phone I paid for however I want. It should not be necessary to exploit security holes to be able to use your phone how you want to.

It's not like Apple is holding a gun at your head and forcing you to download 7.1 and lose your jailbreak.
Apple is telling you what you are allowed to do with the phone that you own. They are actively trying to prevent you from using it how you want to.

It must suck to have to chose between security and the freedom to use your device as you want to. I am really glad I don't have to make that choice.

Jeff, I get that you don't like and don't choose Apple. That's fair. However, because you don't like their model or products doesn't mean their model or products are objectively flawed or that I have to choose between security and the freedom to use the device as I want to, like you wrote. That's the choice that would apply to YOU. I have two iPhone's and two iPads after having a plethora of Android devices BECAUSE they work precisely the way I want them to not because they don't. Just because I don't sit here and write about android's flaws doesn't mean I don't believe it has many. I know its a forum and you enjoy writing about your opinions and preferences but keep in mind, while writing, that that is what they generally are...opinions and preferences. It may not be a bad idea to write them as such. One could ask why is it that most android devices have to be rooted to yield this freedom that is so highly praised IN THE ANDROID COMMUNITY? Why is that 'freedom' not available without capitalizing on a security exploit to root, that is often required? No, I'm not going to derail the thread, I just want some to recognize that what you're writing here is your impressions, opinions, and preferences. Nothing wrong with you preferring android. Your preference doesn't make it objectively better than iOS, however, it just means that's YOUR preference. I'm not knocking android just because I'm using iOS and that doesn't mean I need to bad mouth other platforms that I may not be using right now either.

I don't expect you to change your tune and stop spouting what you like to spout, however, I do hope that you may be able to recognize that you're stating your opinion and you're not somehow smarter than everyone else that prefers iOS because you chose android. I write that because it APPEARS to be a recurring flavor to your posts, like above. People that choose iOS didn't all do so out of some sort of mass ignorance that so many here would have some believe, not that you said or implied that (as others here like to do). Some people don't want to molest their phone's OS to get it to work well for them, nothing wrong with that.
