I got an error trying to update to 5.1.1, what can I do?

Error trying to update to 5.1.1

Hi everyone, I tried to update the N9 to latest update and it will get to a certain point and there's the android robot image with "error" underneath. Anyone able to tell me why it says error, what if anything can I do about ?

problems updating the Nexus 9 to the latest OTA seem to be happening more and more. has your device ever been rooted, that can cause trouble. if not you may want to hold off on trying the update as a lot of people state that it has bricked their tablet.

Nope its not been rooted, I did search for any others with the same issue but couldn't see anything, Im glad im not the only 1, I thought it was the tablet at fault.


Ill hold off with the update for now.

Good deal
if you do get desperate or feel adventurous maybe you should factory data reset first and then try the OTA. that's the only idea I can come up with and I CAN'T guarantee it'll work

Holding off may just be the Best bet till Google comes up with a fix or an explanation why this is happening to some N9's trying to update to 5.1.1

I'm having the exact same problem. Downloads and verifies just fine. And then on the reboot and install I get the error message. This is even after a Factory Data Reset and also tried doing it in safe mode.

Something's definitely wrong....
both of you guys got the 5.0.2 update right? it was pushed out just a few days before 5. 1.1 was released

At least it didn't brick you guys tablets though, been a lot of ppl having to send off their N9 to HTC after trying to take the OTA and then ending up bricked.

Got 5.0.2 awhile ago. This happens when I try and update. Every time. No brick though. Everything functions just fine. Won't update though.

it's going to be interesting to see what exactly caused these problems for so many people, at the moment I'm at a loss....

Yeah my brand new Nexus is on its way back to HTC after this? never even got to the home screen to try the tablet out! it's a joke! I will be honest when it comes back I'm thinking of selling it on and buying a samsung tablet.

Same here.

I have the same problem except I have a n5 running 5.1.1, I try updating but I get an error. Hopefully Google will release another update to fix the problem.

No I don't im afraid, I took it back to the retailer and they asked me to choose 1 from the shop as a replacement.

It got even worse for me, at certain points the screen would go all blocky (like how a chess board is) and make a terrible noise, only way to stop it was to reboot it. No particular app or time the tablet was used for caused the issue.
