I got my Nexus 5X (First Impressions, User Reviews)

Re: Mine has just been delivered

Glad you're enjoying the phone, mine should be arriving early this week!

A few questions:
  • Do you notice any lag when having multiple apps open or switching between them? Concern regarding the 2GB RAM
  • Does the speaker output a hollow sound similar to the Nexus 5? I remember there was an issue where music playing on the stock Google Music app would sound like it had a heavy reverb overlay on and Google even made the speaker holes larger in the 2nd batch of phones which still didn't quite fix it
  • If you use Twitter, do you notice any lag when scrolling through your home feed with images turned on?
  • Do you notice any light bleed in the 4 corners? Also any bleed if you tilt the phone and look up from the bottom?
  • Are there any creaks from the back plate's plastic bending over to the sides?
  • Is there any lag when swipping to the Google Now panel on the home screen?
  • Under Dev. Mode, is there a way to make animations 0.75x, or do we only have the options for 0.50x and 1.00x?
  • When audio stops coming out of the speaker, does the faint hissing noise from the speaker simply fade out or can you hear it turning off like a slight pop?

The reason twitter doesn't have smooth scrolling isn't the phone. The Twitter app is horrendous. When I switched to falcon pro instead on my Nexus 6 it was smooth as silk.

Wow 5x has a better camera rofl. That tint.

LOL! You are kidding right? They are the same exact camera. He even says as much in the video. The only differences are the added features the 6P has due to processing power. The much more likely reason for the differences he was experiencing are simply manufacturing variation.

Re: Mine has just been delivered

Phonearena just released their battery test results for the 5x and 6p,both are bad.Seems like all phones running 808 or 810 this year has bad battery life.

That may or may not be true for everybody in the longer term, or be of little consequence to a lot of owners.
Let's not dissect any negatives on this thread though and keep it happy, happy (jealous) happy for the nice (swines, I want one) owners and the great OP here.
Useful information though it is. :)

Phone Arena just runs a script to test battery. By their tests, the GS6 has much better battery life with a QHD display and smaller battery. I can guarantee you the GS6 doesn't have better battery life than the 5X.

You also have to keep in mind a standard run down test will not equal real world use with this phone. Google designed the phone around Marshmallow's Doze feature which means the phone will do a lot better on battery while its not in use, something run down tests don't show. I know for me, I'm going to see how the battery life does for ME before passing judgement.

Re: Mine has just been delivered

stock Andriod 6.0 is pretty great glad i have finally got rid of the touch wiz ui of the s5 everything just runs a lot more smoothly

I have had that transition. I sold my second Galaxy, a Note 3, in May before it got Lollipopped and I have been using my spare Moto G 2013 on 5.1 since. I would like a big screen again, but a 5.2" Nexus may fit the bill nicely after suffering a 4.5" screen.

Any scrolling or screen transition lag would not be tolerated by me with the supposed pure Android optimization. I understand this can happen but when comparing to the 6p in the video, it was very noticeable. Mine is on order and I'm a little discouraged with.

Edit.. I went ahead and canceled my order. I'm not willing to take a chance quite yet. Between the size being possibly too big for me and possible less than stellar fluidity , I'm gonna need some real reviews and feedback before shelling out 450 bucks.

It's always a risk to order something without reviews coming out. Can't blame you for backtracking on it. That said, I have no concerns about the performance of this phone myself.

The reviewer does say that the camera on the 6p has a greenish tint and using the flash makes it worse at about the 3:35 mark. That's clearly a calibration issue that can be fixed with a software update for the 6p.

Re: Mine has just been delivered

Someone asked about USB OTG without root.. Seems to be working fine for me using a 2 dollar USB type C to 2 port hub. (Aliexpress)

One thing that is annoying is the lag that happens when the phone switches to battery saving mode. It just did it in the middle of this post.

Also the touch feedback is annoying. You get vibration followed half a sec later by sound feedback. It lags the vibration by a fair bit.

Going to have to turn that off.

It could be fixed but you should not buy it assuming it will be.

Re: Mine has just been delivered

Just picked mine up. First impression is good. Fingerprint scanner is amazing after experience with the rubbish one on the S6

Re: Mine has just been delivered

MartinMPL how do you feel about the phone in contrast to the GS6?

Re: Mine has just been delivered

So far so good jtcannonball
It's lighter and easier to grip (I had the GS6 Edge actually).
The finger scanner is light years ahead of Samsung's, in terms of less errors and a larger difference in angle of contact accepted.
The screen seems good although not as saturated as the SGS6. I'm not going to say better or worse at this point...
Build is obviously different. If you want flashy then this isn't the device but the 5x looks and feels good.

Can't say I'm missing anything obvious right away.

Oh and stock Android...

Don't have my 5x yet, but was using a S6 earlier this month for a couple weeks and found the SOT to be 5+ hours on a consistent basis. I'll be thrilled if the 5x comes close to that. It was one of the few aspect of the S6 I thought was excellent compared to my existing phone. In spite of what benchmarks might show, I never felt the S6 was fluid and had fast real life performance (was using Action Launcher 3 pro instead of the TouchWiz launcher). It felt faster than my 2 year old Moto X (2013), but not by a huge margin and that didn't even have a flagship processor for its time. The fingerprint scanner was also hit and miss and led to enough frustration that I eventually stopped using it to unlock, and really hope the 5x is better. It may just be that my fingers are a bit rough and don't have the most distinct print lines.

Re: Mine has just been delivered

Can you post a picture of the signal color strength? That battery life looks pretty good, pretty much 22ish hours with a little under 3 hours SoT with 25% left.

Thanks for answering all these questions!
