I was doing so well...I rooted and successfully installed fresh evo 3.5.0.1. Then I wanted the stock lockscreen so I downloaded it from fresh updater but it didn't work so I thought I would just flash the zip like I flashed the rom...apparently that wasn't good. Upon reboot it just keeps looping the htc screen :( Next I thought just re-flashing the fresh rom would clear it out, but apparently that didn't work either as it says:

Writing boot.img
asset failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img" , "boot")
E:Error in/sdcard/fresh-evo-3.5.0.1.zip
(Status 7)

Installation aborted

Now my phone is stuck! Help! Thank you!!!!!!!

Did you do a nandroid backup before flashing? If so, restore it. If not, wipe and reflash the rom.

I thought I made a nand backup with rom manager but I must have done something wrong because it says it can't find it. I wiped cache/dalvik and tried reflashing again but the same thing happens. Is there something else to wipe? Will trying to install an entirely different rom fix it? thanks!

You just wiped cache/dalvik? You need to wipe the data - factory reset before flashing

And flashing a different ROM would probably work.

Try looking for your backup in the recovery menu instead of Clockwork

thanks, I wiped everything..cache, dalvik, and factory reset and it still didn't work. I just tried to install cm6 and it has the same error.

if it makes a difference, i used rom manager to go from clockwork to Amon RA because it was needed for the stock unlock in fresh

No nandroid? I recommend anyone rooting to nandroid it, and then back that up, then back it up on a flash drive. Status 7? Sounds like you need to unpack that folder one time, and then make sure it is only named update (not update.zip) as CW understands zip. I am not a 100% but that error seems like a simple one. Any EXPERIANCED evo users c'mon!

I know, I need to make sure I know how to make backups properly.

I tried removing .zip from the cm6 file and it still didn't work. You say cw understands zip, what about amon ra as thats what im using now...not that it makes much of a difference now.

really appreciate your help! can't wait till i actually know what im doing and can help noobs like myself

If I had and EVO, I would hold your hand through it, until you were flying. I am only good with moto devices. Someone will have something soon I think. Sounds like you have a recovery image and boot into the loader. You are fine. Patience, you will get it. May I recommend next time to take a few days and study, then prepare first for the worst case scenario, then root? that way, you are ready. Good luck. You will be fine.

Been hacking phones over a year. I KNOW you are fine. You just need someone experienced with that device. Try tomorrow when it wakes up around here.

I help people everyday on here but when I had to do some of the stuff on my girls phone,i had problems.I went in super confident but a set of problems presented that I never heard before. It can be humbling but I'm glad it happened cause I learned. Good luck .. Its just a matter of time

You're good dude. Do a nandroid of your working system, this is something you should have done immediately after rooting, so do it now.

Oh and try myns rom ;)

I know I should have done it...shame on me. I've learned my lesson

But I actually don't have a working system right now, I could never fix it. I can get into recovery but when I try to flash a rom it says error 7 and if I try and let it just load up it just hangs on the htc evo 4g screen

Since you don't have a nandroid backup, I think you are going to have to go back to stock and start over.

Download this file:

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Just download it, don't unzip it. Make sure it is named PC36IMG.zip and put it directly on your SD card. Then put your SD card in your EVO.

Boot into HBOOT by pressing volume down and power. It will then load the file and when it asks you to update select yes. This will completely wipe everything and return your EVO to stock.

Then you will need to root again. After you root, be sure to make a nandroid backup BEFORE you do anything else. After you flash a new ROM, you should also make a backup before you go in and start playing with stuff. It's also a good idea to copy these backups somewhere else like your computer just in case something goes wrong, especially the one you make right after you root.

Thanks kd, someone on another forum actually just suggested using this PC36IMG.zip file and I did and it worked! Thank you for your help though!

I do have another question though, now that its back to working with the Sprint Lovers rom it won't let me make a nand backup. it says Error : Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb!

Any ideas?

Not sure what to say there. At least you have a working system again though. That's the first ROM I've seen that someone put out as a PC36IMG file rather than a regular zip that you flash in recovery.

It would probably be best to use that PC36IMG.zip that I posted. You will have to root again, but you will be starting with a clean, stock OS.

EDIT: igotsanevo4G beat me to the reply. Try what he said first.

As simple as it may sound I had similar problems three months ago. Turned out to be a bad micro sd card. I now keep several new cards in my desk drawer formatted with updated backups on them. This may have nothing to do with your issue but memory is cheap nowadays. Wouldn't hurt to check to be sure. Good luck.

And if your gonna go stock and re root, use the 2.1 Ruu so you can use simple root and be fine.
