I have a Moto G4 Play that worked on Verizon's 4G network just fine....until I went overseas

Since returning, my phone no longer shows "Verizon Wireless" on the screen, but "Preferred System" instead. In addition, it no longer connects to the 4G network, but 3G. I have to keep it on the "Global" network to maintain good service. If I put it on LTE, it doesn't work as well. I have spend numerous hours with Verizon techs, as well as Motorola. Can anyone help me?

I guess the question above has stumped everyone. It appears that our only recourse is to purchase new phones. :-(
