I have a Nexus 4, you have questions. Fire away.

Downloaded the android assistant app the other day, was just wondering if there was any point of using these app killers and whether they actually make the phone better or worse?

Most if not all tech blogs I read recommend that you don't use app killers. Android does a good job of managing resources/memory. If and when it needs resources, Android will terminate unused apps and free space when it's needed. 2 gigs is ample to have multiple apps running in the background without worrying about running out of space. Personally I've never felt bogged down running many apps at the same time with my Nexus 4.

These are no longer needed. Android handles this for you. But Juice defender helps battery.

Hi,

I have a question regarding the gesture typing on the nexus 4. I have went into settings and have checked off "enable gesture tgping" and yet, I still cannot gesture on the keyboard. Do I need to do something else in order for the gestures to work?

Thanks.

Get SwiftKey keyboard. It's better.

The only problem with my Nexus 4 is with my local news channels app. If I go to one of their news stories that has a video on it, I read the story and not go back to their home screen, the video will end up playing an hour or two later all on it's own. I was in a grocery store a few times and had this happen and it took me a few minutes to realize what was happening.

Sounds like a crappy app, not a problem with your Nexus.

That's the weirdest bug I've heard of in a long time.

Here are my nexus 4 questions: 1. White or Black? 2. Is the CDMA theory nonsense? 3. Is this still #1 on sexiest phone? 4. Would my wife like it? 5. Is the wireless charging worth using?

I have the nexus 4. When I download an image from the web that's animated. It does not come out animated into my gallery and when u send an animated text its not animated. Please help

I need to transfer contacts from my old blackberry to my new Nexus for. I have successfully paired them on Bluetooth. I can click "send contacts" on the blackberry but myNexus then asks me to confirm acceptance ? and there is no obvious way for me to do that. Therefore, the transfer fails on each occasion. What should I do? All help gratefully received!

Do you have any advice on rectifying this issue with the dates not displaying properly?

The easiest way would be for you to export your contacts from your blackberry then upload them to your Google account connected to your phone. This would then automatically sync them to your Nexus.

Nope, the dates which are displaying "3, 5 14" where it's suppose to be displaying today's date. The format is not right. Any ways to salvage this?

Go into they same spot. Settings/time and date. Scroll down to the bottom and select date format. I use the second one from the top.

You mean, I should export to a csv file on my desktop, and then import that into gmail? I can do that.

I have to say, the export via bluetooth seems to work like a charm - up to the point where my Nexus 4 asks (briefly) for confirmation that I want to accept the file. But then I don't see where I am supposed to click to accept - and the notification vanishes after a few seconds, after which the incoming file is rejected.

it turns out that i am being affected by a known issue, code.google issue 40065

https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40065

turns out that google has been made aware of this in november of last year, is a phone fault with the 4.2.x software on the nexus handsets.

is this not something that i should have been made aware of before getting the handset?

I am currently an iPhone user (Have been since iPhone 1st launched). I am quite ingrained with IOS but I am seeking the ability to customize my phone to my liking, so I am looking at Android and in particular the Nexus 4. I understand that Google I/O is less then 2 weeks away and I may wait for it but not sure. I do have a few concerns about switching. I use my phone for e-mail, texting and streaming music/PodCasts/AudioBooks/MLB games in my car during my commute (1 1/2 hrs both ways) and at work. I get my music from Rhapsody, Pandora, Spotify and I Heart Radio. I subscribe to approx 15 different podcasts and listen to alot of audio books from Audible. My main concern is that Jelly Bean 4.2.2 is having issues with the Bluetooth stack.
If I can't listen to my phone in my car then that is a complete deal breaker! It is also my understanding that the Bluetooth stack in previous versions of Jelly Bean are stable and function as designed.
1. What version of Jelly Bean is installed on a new Nexus 4 (From Google) when it is shipped?
2. How difficult is it to move to a different version (Either forward or backward)?
3. If I install a different version or ROM out my Nexus 4 and decide to send it back, will this cause difficulty?
4. Which version of Jelly Bean has the most stable Bluetooth stack.

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance and I am looking forward to a pleasant Android experience.

Regards,
Brent
Shipped with 4.1 i believe, as for the bluetooth mine just doesnt turn on sometimes but thats fixed with a restart then it turns on right away. I think its just when its running for ages its a bit dicky.
Update very easy, not sure about backwards as I don't install roms. I presume sending it back wont be an issue if you restore it to stock.
