The onscreen buttons have been around for a year, the only phone i have seen since last year (other than the nexus devices) that do this is the new motorola razr HD.
once you use them, you will more than likely love the setup. doesn't hinder the use of the phone one bit and hids the bar when watching videos. I LOVE them on my Galaxy nexus.
i have no questions for you Phil other than "do you know why they put the lip around the flash?" seems a little silly to muck up such a beautiful backing with a seemingly un-necessary protrusion. i would actually prefer to see it around the camera to keep it from scratching the glass over the lense...but that is just me being a reasonable person
