I have an EVO ...

It wouldn't be any slower than my aircard running on 3g would it? If so, why? I wanna get rid of my aircard when I get the EVO & save $30 a month. Well, with the $10 4g fee, I would save $20.

3G isn't bad, I tether using my phone all the time (Sprint Hero). It should be on par with your aircard.

How did the txt'ing, email and calendar functionality compare to your Pre? I am also a Pre owner thinking of jumping ship..

Email and Txt: Easy to use, compose and reply etc?
Calendar: adding appointments, appointment reminders etc..

Thanks!

I thought all the Google apps were on there.I guess you get them from the app store? Android is all new to me. Is Google Nav on there already? I just hope the Navi turns when you put the phone in the car dock. I so can't wait for this phone.

Google Nav is built into maps. There is also a Sprint Nav, but I find the Google Nav to be nicer. It even displays a streetview of your destination as your approach it.

Ok, that's what I figured, thanks. I didn't think one would be slower than the other if they're both running the same 3g.

See, 3G on the phone seems slower cause the device is slower than a traditional computer. If you just tether, you bypass the system holding it down and browsing through tethering seems just as fast. I only use it for short bursts of data when im in a car. Like during my last week of school, I was doing reports, tethering to turn it in, disconnect, do another, tether to turn it in. I never leave it on as wifi tether seems to overheat the stock battery over long periods of use.

The browsers seem much improved since the g1. All the site I've been to loaded quickly. Plus I really missed the text wrap feature but it seems to be hit or miss. and again the screen size really helps.
Acid test scored a 93

Does the browser differ from the Incredible, as far as you can see?

Doc,

I can't speak for anyone else being a newbie here, but thank you for all you did. You remind me of Merlin over on treocentral dot com. He got an early Palm 700P (tried to find the thread, couldn't), about four months early. He spent most of one day feeding us with what was the hot phone of it's day. Then the Palm police showed up at his door. He had activated it with Sprint, so it wasn't to hard to find him. Your situation is different, but the outcome is the same. We now know more about this phone than we did on this past Friday.

Again,
Thank you so much,
Scary

i just want to say thanks to doc for taking his time out and answering all these questions from us thirsty future evo users, i have been lurking for the past couple of weeks and your post made me sign up so i could let you know your greatly appreciated.

Doc thanks for all the updates over the weekend.
Just wondering what was the size of the Internal memory
thanks

I can't remember maybe 512 but I think i answered that for someone a few pages back.

@Keith Newman Any gripes/complaints/niggles from your EVO hands-on? Anything that didn't feel right or could be better?

btw...love the Palmcast!

There were times when I was using it that my thumb had to extend to regions of the phone I wasn't used to. With the Pre and Hero, one handed/Thumb use is fairly easy due to the screen sizes, but with the 4.3 inch screen, reaching was awkward. I don't know if this is bad or not, it's a learning curve for sure. The Hero was one of the most uncomfortable phones to use with how my pinky fingers tucked under it to support it. Now it feels entirely natural... YMMV kind of situation I suppose.

I was more blown away by the speed of the device. It floored me... things just worked. Snappy and responsive, scroll flicking never hiccup'd and neither did multitasking in and out of various apps using the HOME button.

Speaking of which, those capacitive buttons were a damn dream.

Keith, two questions.

1) Are you 100% sure the battery from the Hero works with the Evo?

2) Does the hero have a 1350 mAh or a 1500 mAh battery?

1) Yep, confirmed from my "source" that they used a spare battery lying around when they killed the first one from playing with it for 3 straight hours.

2) See rufflez's response for the second answer.

Sprint Hero has 1500mAh, GSM Hero has 1350mAh

Thanks mate.

yo, was wondering if evo had a charm or landyard hole for you to use? thanks

Nope, all I could really think was "Wow, for a device this size, it's stream-lined". I it would have annoyed me if they had, it's kind of heavy to have dangling around.

Does the browser differ from the Incredible, as far as you can see?

Used the Incredible for 15 minutes, but as far as I can tell, it's your Sense browser, with flash lite. I know, I tried it myself to make sure that the demo party devices were just running without Flash and maybe store units got the full deal. Sadly, Flash lite :(

I can't remember maybe 512 but I think i answered that for someone a few pages back.

Internal (ROM) was 1 GB... music, photos, apps...

RAM was 512 mb.

Here is the thing, I can't friggin remember what the User Available Space was, doc31, can you go to settings>SD&phone storage>Internal Phone storage?

I remember it reading in the 700's but I don't know the exact number :(

Sorry, I suck on that one.

that was a long read... ik that doc couldn't really tell the difference between the screen on the evo and the pre, @Kieth Newman, glass or plastic on the evo? all im really concerned about is the durability. the day i got my pre (on its release date of course) the screen had about 4 scratches. hows the durability?
