I have HD calling off in settings but it's still acting like its on

I have an LGG5 and I have terrible signal where I live. I never had problems talking on my old flip phone with 1x signal but on 3 or 4g, its awful. My friend suggested turning off HD calling in my advanced call settings. It worked- my phone would instantly switch to 1x signal during a call which is a much stronger signal (but much slower but that doesn't matter in a call) and I didn't have problems talking on the phone at home anymore. Every now and then it would glitch and stop switching over and I would just have to go into settings and turn it on and back off again. But for the past few days, it has stopped switching over to 1x and I'm having a terrible time speaking on the phone. Turning it on and off and restarting the phone hasnt helped. I'd like to be able to use my phone TO TALK ON THE PHONE, and maybe I have the whole HD calling thing wrong but that would be a stange coincidence... Does anyone have any suggestions? Verizon is my carrier.

Welcome to Android Central! Did you get the phone directly from Verizon, or did you get it somewhere else and bring it to Verizon?
