So I just installed my first custom ROM, TrulyEpic v1.2. It is, indeed, truly epic. But I've been wondering, why on earth did I just do it? What has rooting gotten me? All the Apps on the Market that I want typically cost money, and while that's perfectly ok, I can't buy every one of them. Basically, I'm wondering what should I do now? What are some Apps or things I can do now that I couldn't before?

What's the first thing you did after you rooted your phone and flashed a ROM to it?

Custom themes, better backup solutions, free tethering, plus the improvements that come with Froyo itself. The skies the limit! As far as gettings apps for free I don't know much about that realm.

To get free apps you don't have to be rooted. You simply download from a third party. I dont think its legal to go into specifics but hopefully you get the gist of it if you like music and electronics youll figure it out

As far as what you can do. Thats it.
Its kind of a weak jailbreak of an iphone. Except you get updates faster

Maybe read about the rom you downloaded and some of the changes it made.
Rooting and roms are designed to make the phone fit you and your needs, its
not a free pass.
Possibly look through AppBrain, you will see things that are for rooted phones
that optimize it, try those, but read and research is a wonderful thing to do.

eventually once we get custom mods, you'll be able to use SET CPU... also titanium backup, juice defender and others all perform better on rooter devices as additional options become available that are not on non-rooted devices...
