Hi,

I bought a Sony BDV e290 blu ray 1000 watt 5.1 surround sound several months ago, has Wi-Fi capabilities etc. It has an Ipod Dock too.

Then I got a Samsung S4 :D

so basically, I want to play music from my phone on the surround sound. I can do this easily with an Aux cable to but the sound quality is not so good. I cannot do it through UBS to my phone as it wont recognise the phone as it does the ipod for some reason. I can do it via Wi-Fi but only view what I want to play on the tv screen and it doesn't load playlists just all the tracks on my phone.

the reason I ask is because I went into a Sony shop and asked about it. the guy told me if I have internet connected to it I can do it over my home network. he showed me and open his phone (which was a sony phone so this may be why his worked) - connected to the sound system and chose a song on his phone and it came out of the music system....long story short .... I WANT TO DO THIS :'(

My system does not have Bluetooth so I cannot do it that way. Any ideas??? Do I need a specific app or is there something on my Samsung S4 I am not doing??

Your ideas will be helpful in case there is something I have not thought of.

Thanks

Sounds like you should have asked the Sony guy what app he was using on HIS Sony phone... at least that is what I would have done, or ask him to do that with your phone while you are standing there. More than likely it was a SONY specific app for SONY devices to connect and play music.

Yeah I think it is to do with the Party Host but im not sure - I will go back and ask - maybe I can find a Bluetooth receiver?

They're like $20-$30 on Amazon. You'll only get a ~30' range, though.

I haven't looked too deep into it, but it might support DLNA. That would allow you to play music from your phone to your stereo.

Yeah it supports DLNA. https://la.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/33278/c/65,75/p/46871,74232,74590/

Look over page 27 on the manual for your Sony.

Look over page 75 for the Samsung S4.

Basically make sure both devices are on the same wifi network. Setup your Blu ray for DLNA. Make sure you are using the Samsung Media player and select the option to stream it to the Blu ray player. On your S4, go to Menu | Settings | Connections | Nearby Devices | File Sharing and enable that.

oh dam, that's easy. I thought you could only do that with photos and videos. I never noticed the sharing option on the album page on the Samsung player.

Thanks Guys your are brilliant.
