I love HTC , but still have not bought One (M8) ...because of the camera

The M8s camera is good for probably 98% of the population whom takes pictures for their social media purposes.

I'm able to take decent pictures at outings and whatnot and have no concern if it doesn't look " professional " at all.

The selfies that my wife leaves for me on my phone are more than good enough for me to stare and appreciate the M8s camera qualities :D

I think this pretty much sums it up nicely. :)

Maybe it makes me a bad techie, but I don't sit around worrying about cell phone cameras. My s4 had one of the better "phone" cameras on the market, and although it worked perfectly fine when i needed it, it still had way too many limitations for me to go around bragging about it. When I want quick shots, most cell phone cameras suffice. When I need detailed pictures that I actually hold on to long term, none of them do. So the M8 camera is perfect for someone like me. And the software is actually fun to use.

Sincere advice to op.
Forget about reviews and this thread.
Get these two phones use them a week seperately, and feel yourself.

Many many of you have. I did, I used the M8 for two days and couldn't believe the pos camera. I truly can't believe why they cheaped out with such a bad camera. The camera and the silly looking length made me dump the m8. Never had a phone that hung out of my back pocket until the m8. It just looks silly.

Yeah. That 0.1692 inch difference in length is absolutely ASTRONOMICAL! How in the world do we manage to fit the M8 in our pockets?! I think I should switch to the tiny S5. :P

Or he could act like a man and not a 16 year old girl and get the damn phone out of his back pocket.

Impossible when every thread, regardless of initial post, turns into a "my camera's better than yours" argument.

And yet you reply in a thread with camera in the title? Please check your feigned indignation at the door.

I could care less about the MP/Quality but I am questioning hTc's decision.

They knew this was an issue with the M7 and whether it makes a difference in quality or not at the end it's all about NUMBERS.

Why keep this 4MP/UltraPixel, was it a financial problem because I don't remember Select Focus being in demand or in any wish list?

TBH, I doubt it would've really made a difference in sales. Who knows probably that's the reason why hTc kept it, accept that they are second to Samsung. How's the sales figure between the two?

Samsung Galaxy S5 camera shootout versus HTC One M8, iPhone 5S - CNET

Sorry, but you cannot say this phone's camera measures up to the S5 or the 5S. And you can throw the Lumia Icon, G2, Note 3 (outside of Low Light), S4, Xperia Z2, 1520, 1020, and others in there as well. It's worse than all of them as an all-around photography/videography device.

To be Quite Frank, I'd take the One with its OIS over the M8 any day, provided I was willing to live with the more meager specs in the device and the guarantee that it won't be supported as long.

Selective Focus is not worth the loss of OIS, especially when it can be implemented - quite well - in Software. Apart from that, the M8's camera is only a marginal improvement over the M7.

Hey look, the M8 has a camera that's good at portraits, macro, low-light, and action shots. Totally fits my needs. And it's better than last years? That's all that matters to me.

My initial walk with the M8 camera resulted in photos of higher resolution than my M7.

I agree those are some nice shots. Sure the S5 may have its pros in the camera area but the M8 is no slouch either. My wife has the S4, I have the M7 and we share and compare photos out from our hikes all the time. She gets some good ones and I do too, just luck of the lighting, focus and what your taking a picture of many times that produces a great shot.

Great photos! First of thanks for posting!

While these 2 pics look nicely deatiled and sharp, they feel so dark that they felt like they were taken late late in the evening... or on a cloudy day.

m8's photos tends to make the scene look "older" or .... taken at later in the evening.

looking at the bright sun light it is probably shot between 10am ~ 2pm ... but because Ultrapixel lets more light into every pixel, and outdoor shots tends to get blown out...so to compensate this, they probably had to *tune it down* to let less light in for this setting... as a result out door shots are way dimmer than regular MP cameras.

I did read on some review sites saying metering being important tho. Curious if you guys tried touching the screen and meter for different brightness results?

From the photo thread, this seems more like the ideal colors and brightness: (imo)

i wonder if this shot is shot by auto or manual ?

Eventho I like the 16MP ISOCELL camera, I won't even consider S5 because :
1. I am sicking of Samsung. Coming from s3 I need a change
2. touch wiz and all the bloat ware **** me off
3. UI is known to be slower on S5 when compared to m8
4. S5 just feels ... cheap for that price tag.
5. Like i said I love htc, and I have had multiple htc devices ... just want to switch back to htc

I assume it's reasonable to believe that:
1. htc thought duo camera's selective focus technology is so innovative that no one else would have similar function
2. do we upgrade the MP count? or adding a depth camear? upgarding MP, the NUMBER will be hard to be on par with competitors... so lets just do depth camera
3. must stick with Ultrapixel philosphy... can't ride the bandwagon with the rest... must tough it out...
4. we'll just have another mid range phone with higher MP regular camera... and thus the "Desire" line ....

funny thing is, i am more excited about their Desire 816... with 13MP quadcore coming out in like 4 days or so
