I Love this Freakin' Thing!

I am honestly very tempted by the 128GB black Pixel XL.

I've seen several hands-on videos of it along with user testimonials, and all have remarked the same thing; It's a very fast, fluid and snappy performer, more-so than most, if not, all other Android devices, with a great camera that easily competes with the S7 in pretty much everything to boot.

While I have not felt my Note 7 being slow from the time I had it, it definitely had its slow moments along with some inexplainable random stutters.

The only thing separating me from it is the availability and delay. I need a new phone now as my backup is proving to be too unreliable for daily use.

I completely agree. I've got the live "your world" on mine and it's mesmerizing.

Yep - I also thought my N7 was a performer.
The Pixel is on a new level, IMO.
It's not that it's snappier when doing this one thing, or that other one thing.
It's just immediate, all the time.

I am used to this performance after only a few days - my threshold has just shifted and I now expect immediate touch response. I think that going back to the N7 now would be the ultimate comparison, and it would probably be an eye-opener.

It's a seriously fast phone.

I still think Samsung has a ways to go in terms of performance. They're getting there, but they can certainly do more.

Samsung can do optimisation, but for whatever reason they threw the snapdragon under the bus. Apparently by 2018 they'll have cdma compatibility for exynos, so they can move away from SD then.

So the note 9, in time for note users forced to move away from the note 7, and in time for you to see how it does on the s9 released before it. :)

My Note 7 is Exynos-powered, though.

N5 and N7 owners may recognize that title. :) Sorry! But I've moved on to the Pixel XL and this phone is on a whole new level on a number of fronts.

The software optimization that Google was able to accomplish by targeting one specific hardware platform results in a crazy fast and smooth user experience. Touch response, scrolling and raw speed is better than any Android phone and only the iPhone can compete on this front. Prior, the iPhone owned this space. Not any more.

Is the scrolling more consistent? Like my Note 3 has smooth and consistent scrolling but my Note 5 is very erratic. Instagram feed is where Android seems to have the biggest challenge with scrolling.

I totally gave up on the "Waiting List" - I am beginning to wonder if it even exists. I have not heard one person yet say that they received an email saying they had been picked. I was patiently waiting, while checking every chance I had and one night I looked and almost fell out of my office chair. I rubbed my eyes 'cuz I thought they were playing tricks with the missing "Out of Stock". I immediately clicked the "Pixel XL" button, then the "Quite Black" button, then the "128 GB" button and then the "$99.00 Protection Pkg" button and headed on down the road to "Complete Purchase"... JUST KEEP TRYING. Early morning, late evening...

And just like that, I randomly check and the 128 Black XL was in stock. Now the wait begins!

In my experience so far, the Pixel's scrolling is smooth everywhere, not just with certain apps.

Same here, I mean Facebook scrolls very well which on my 5X wasn't even close... Chrome scrolls well too. I haven't found an app that has much of an issue outside of loading stuff from the web not keeping up so I hit the bottom of a feed.

It's funny you say that - the Note 7 was the BEST Phone I ever owned, hands down. After owning a Note 7, then a Replacement Note 7, I WON'T but a Note 8 so it will probably be the Note 9 Series before Samsung ever regains my trust again

You are 100% on target. After being a Nexus snob for years, looking down my nose at the lowly Samsung ecosystem, I bought a Note 5 and really went all in on Samsung. I saw the Samsung shortcomings: too many half-baked features, poor update support and more, but still, I loved the hardware. The N7 just blew me away and I continued (briefly) on my Samsung path. Samsung Pay, Fit2 and everything.

But, it was the way they handled the N7 issues that really turned me away. I am fully aware that some people are comfortable with the way Samsung handled the recalls, but I am not in that group. They lost my trust 100%.

Thankfully, along comes the Pixel. Amazing luck timing-wise for Google.

Does the Pixel best the N7 on the hardware front? Not at all. The N7 is quite the pinnacle of design for 2016, IMO. The Pixel is rather plain in comparison, design-wise. But the actual use of the Pixel far exceeds the N5/N7 in it's elegant integration/execution. No comparison actually. The Pixel feels like a an integrated product optimized for ease of use of powerful features, it doesn't feel like the mish/mash of too many questionable features that Samsung products felt like to me.

What about multi-tasking... I hear it shuts down apps on its own, in the background.. Does this interfere with any tasks? Is it noticeable?

I'm currently back on a note 3 because that was the hand-me-down that was available in the house... It has been less janky than the 4, 5 OR 7....it's Android 5.0! I'm tempted to keep it except the camera is awful.

I've yet to have any multi-tasking issues on the Pixel. I have multiple apps open all the time and switch between them without the OS closing them.
