Re: Trying Not to Fall Prey to the Loud Minority

I hear you, but the reason I'm not sweating an order from Huawei too much is cause the TGSP's and cases I have on order haven't gotten to me yet. For the most part I'm confident the phone will be ok, but ever since that ridiculous bend test, it seems to have given people license to critique every nook and cranny of the phone.
I won't sweat it.

Eh, the "bend test" was one of the stupider things I've ever seen on the internet - and that's saying something. I remember when the big iPhones first came out and everybody was hysterical that some of them bent too. Haven't heard a word about it after those first couple weeks though. But I will say this, if damage is a worry for you, I'd definitely go with a purchase from Google then. I haven't read many glowing reviews about Huawei's customer service.

Im loving every second i interact with this 6p, coming from the note 3, its a welcomed changed, and new GUI, utterly amazing. It may be just your particular device that is defective, I've try to critique this phone, and the screen but im not seeing anything to gripe about. Best wishes to you man

Re: Trying Not to Fall Prey to the Loud Minority

As the title says. I'd followed news of this Nexus launch since March, and had my heart set on my first stock Android device. I know that the ruckus going on now is par for the course, with every new phone that launches. I can't deny having niggling doubts, however. I ordered the 6P on 10/27 from Huawei and have an estimated delivery date of late November. That being the case, I wonder which wave of phones mine is in, since I hate being an early adopter anyway. Given Huawei's RMA policy, I'll be very irritated if I have to do so for any reason, after such a long wait. Should something be wrong with this device, I may just wait til the 2016 Moto X is out with the SD 820.

Like others have said.
I'd cancel with Huawei and order directly from Google.
I got mine from Google.
I have a Graphite 128GB. Kind of wish I had aluminum, but oh well..

sure. you can say that pretty much about anything currently that's the top of its class from a technological standpoint. each passing moment is the pinnacle of human technological achievement. anything tech invented today is better than anything tech invented yesterday. today's snapdragon 820 announcement means the snapdragon 820 is the greatest mobile chipset in the history of humanity. when the 830 is announced it will be the greatest, and so on.

so...if many of us agree that the nexus 6p is the best smartphone on the market, then it is by definition the best smartphone that has been on the market (unless it was downgraded for some reason) and, following the logical argument, is the greatest phone that has been on the market. except apparently to the op, who has a problem with color reproduction

Re: Trying Not to Fall Prey to the Loud Minority

So far mine has been excellent .. I love this device. I wouldn't worry about anything -- especially since you're still just in the waiting part. Judge the phone itself once you have it in your hands :).

I remember you posting in the 5x forum when I asked if it was worth it to switch from the moto X pure. I'm guessing you made the jump to the 6p. I'm not trying to jack this thread but how have you liked the 6p compared to the mxpe, screen wise, battery wise, camera and overall usage all better on the 6p? Loving the mxpe but the low light shots on the 6p and the battery life seem almost worth the jump to me. The only moto feature I use is the moto display and I could get over that I think.

It's encouraging to hear some people say their whites evened out over time, but the longer you wait the less chance you have of a hassle-free warranty claim, and your 'return' window is only two weeks. After you exchange a device once, you can't return it, but you can do multiple exchanges (all according to the Google rep I talked to last night who was awesome by the way, didn't hesitate at all to send me an RMA).
Precisely. I made the same point(s) in an earlier post in this thread. Yes it's encouraging to hear that the screen gets better over time...but how much time? This is a phone not wine. If it doesn't get better in the short window of time one has to return; then you're SOL. But see that is the whole point of my thread; we shouldn't have to give a device some time to get better; especially when it comes to the screen. That doesn't make sense.

Imagine Apple telling consumers; I know your iPhone screen looks like coffee was spilled all over it...but give it some time and that yellow hue might, maybe, could go away. Lol actually I just thought about it and the typical iPhone consumer would probably still buy an Apple product...juuuuuust kidding. Btw; my replacement 6P has arrived and once I get back home I'll give it a run and post back an update...

"Stupidest". Yes stupidest. I'll tell you what is stupidest ... convincing one's self to not complain and keep a device even when MANY Google reps admit that many customers have complained about some (not all) units having discoloration issues.

The "best phone" moniker is subjective and depends on what parameters you are using to call it the "best phone"...not to say one doesn't have a legitimate argument to consider the 6P the best phone...I'm just saying let's be clear and admit its a subjective opinion. What is all this hub-bub you're spewing to try to come across as some sort of technology savant: "the greatest phone in the history of humanity if you think about it logically." ? I am thinking about it logically and no my particular unit (the first one I received) as it came is not the greatest phone in the history of humanity if you think about it logically.

For the record it is great that your 6P arrived perfect...but mine didn't.

Dude; the processor/chipset is a component of the device...correct? If it works poorly then it is unacceptable. The microphone is a component of the device correct? If it works poorly then it is unacceptable. The screen is a component of the device correct? If it works poorly for some then it is unacceptable. You're pretty much saying (let's use human anatomy as an analogy)..."dude my heart is strong as hell but my left eye only sees yellow and even though I know I can get it fixed or replaced I choose to be a rebel...hellllll yeahhhh...and not do anything about seeing yellow. But, but, but my heart beats and runs epic as hell duuuude."

Point is; any component of a device that doesn't work as it should is unacceptable.

No problem. I made the jump simply because I really wanted to try a Nexus. The screen on the 6P is nicer (to me) than the MXPE & the battery is better (but I give that to Doze in Android M ... Once MXPE gets Doze it should be on the same level). Other than that they are very similar. I do enjoy the 6P in regards to knowing that I get updates straight from Google with no wait.

Re: Trying Not to Fall Prey to the Loud Minority

I go through phones about as much as someone who reviews them for their employment does. It's been that way for years now. With that said, I'd say that I have a pretty firm grasp on what makes a good smartphone. The 6P is the best phone available right now. It's just that simple. Honorable mention to the Moto X Pure Edition (which I still have) and the Note 5 (which I sent back to Samsung after the 30 days), but the 6P is just that good.

maybe, but to rant about it in an "woah is me" post in what essentially amounts to an enthusiast forum in an effort to drum up sympathy is amusing and sad. just return it and be done with it. i returned some defective brake pads the other day. shall i go to the ford user forum in an effort to see if anyone else is with me?

My screen has zero yellow tint. I've compared it to my 2014 moto x and wife's Galaxy s6. Screen is amazing

I returned mine due to the screen tone as well. Pink on the left and moving to cream on the right. Black text on a white background looked awful - black on the left and grey on the right. Picked of a Moto X Style - not as nice a phone overall but good even screen and much more robustly made.

Re: Trying Not to Fall Prey to the Loud Minority

Google FTW. I knew this phone was going to be sold out fast and in great demand so I pre-order it. Had it for almost two weeks and couldn't be happier. I've dealt with Google in the past and they have excellent CS. Don't know about dealing with Huawei though.

My biggest worry switching would be being able to sell this MXPE. Would hate to have a hard time selling after getting the 6p.

Re: Trying Not to Fall Prey to the Loud Minority

Google is great to deal with it you ever have a problem with your device (provided it's still under warranty), they sent me a new nexus 9 when I was having issues with it and hardly even asked me about the problem.

Cheers, Neil.

Probably going to return the 6P after two days. The phone itself is great, no question about that. Build seems excellent, no gripes at all. The only thing for me is the size. I could get use to it sure that is not a problem. However, with my active lifestyle, there is just no need for a phone this large as I only use one phone. I really wanted to love it, but just not for me.

Re: Trying Not to Fall Prey to the Loud Minority

Get it from Google and get Nexus Protect.
