I rooted. I feel stupid

I just rooted my tab 10.1 and now I am full of regrets.

I did it because there is a lot of pressure to try it on the forums and I got caught up in it.
I am still 100 percet stock other wise. I feel like a Idiot for getting off the update path with Samsung releaseing ICS soon.

Not sure I even want to flash a rom now. Worst part is I can not seem to find instructions to unroot that are even close to being as clear as the ones I used to root.

I just feel stupid.

Wouldn't you unroot if you clean up your device by performing a factory reset? Just wondering...

Why would you feel pressure to root? That sounds very silly.

Of course it sounds Silly. Any sort of human weakness or self deprecating honesty sounds silly and is generally a magnet for ridicule on tech related forums..

Reading all the posts about rooting and the eternal joy it brings left me feeling like I was missing out. But the second I did it, I was left wondering why I did it. Seems like I gave up more than I got. My tab ran fine. Did everything I wanted it to do.

Just something I did not think through well enough and regret doing is all. Next week when I have more time, I will either start screwing around with Roms which I am starting to think amounts to Android masturbation, or I will figure out how to unroot.

So my use of the word pressure either lacked the nuance you needed to understand my point, or you lacked it. No matter the result is identical. Hopefully this post serves to clarify my poor communication or your lack of understanding. Again either way the results are identical.

Don't sweat it too much man.

Flash an older ui and then do an ota if you are really worried about it.

I'm a total amateur and i recently bricked my bionic.

Got it recovered, ed and whined about how long it took, and then got the kehones to try again. And then got the job done.

If i can do it, anybody can.

Samsung are terrible with updates anyway, you might as well figure out how to do it yourself!

If you are stock but rooted, you should be able to update without issue. You will most likely lose root when you update.

No need to feel stupid for rooting, but I would still flash a ROM as you can upgrade to ICS now......hell you can even upgrade to Jelly Bean although its a very early release with quite a few issues.

Sorry to let you know, it's very unlikely Samsung will actually give the ICS update to the Wifi Tab 10.1 anytime soon. Judging by their history, I'd expect it in 3 months at the earliest.

+1 on this....

And to the OP.... why wait for Samsung to get an update out... Your rooted already, thats really the hardest part. Plus any ICS update is going to be a TouchWiz infested version of Android.

hmmmmm I have let this stew for a few days and done some research. I am on a older vcersion of clockworkmod 4.04. I need to update to a newer version before I flash a ICS room from my understanding. I Am having trouble finding a working link to the latest CWM.

Also not sure if I can just run odin and install the new CWM over the older version.

I do not want to make a carreer out of this. Yikes

No man its all good now. It was a learning curve because I did not have any of the language. A statement like Flash with odin..... was meaningless.

But I now know the language and understand the process. I am very pleased with AOKP Milestone 6. Seems like a GREAT ICS rom... Tab is wicked fast and app folders just plain rule.

Like having a entire new toy. Now I feel foolish for waiting for Samsung for so long.

Here's where to find the latest working CWM for flashing most of ICS ROMs:
Droid Basement

I've been running CM9 for a few months now and love it. The improvements to the browser and typing interface really make it better -- literally turned my Tab from a device that I used to pick up every now and then to tinker with, to a device I use ALL THE TIME.

Latest CM9 builds can be found here:
CyanogenMod Downloads (this is for the wifi version of tab...check left-hand pane to switch if you have a VZW, etc, tab).

Not trying to sway you at all, there are a few great ROMs out there. I personally like CM9 because it has been very stable on my device and has everything I need...but if you feel you need the camera (which doesn't work with the ICS ROMs), you should probably stick with stock and/or a Honeycomb ROM.
