I rooted my Droid Incredible today...

well after 5 hours I gave up. I tried every version of the directions and could not get into shell. I even went out and bought a PNY 2GB card from BB and still nothing. Guess I will be waiting for the fool proof version of rooting.

My guess is that in a couple of weeks we will be seeing froyo ported over and many more awesome things. I haven't had a chance yet to even try to root my phone because I'm on a long weekend away from my laptop but tomorrow morning it will be my first task. It's been a long wait.

they haven't gotten nand access yet, but hopefully that isn't too far behind a simpler root method.

i've tried everything and haven't been able to root this way, so i'm really hoping for the unrevoked team to come up with some other way to get root.

Temptation lost, doesn't work.. :(

It's not meant to be, I guess.. At least until there's an easier way.. ;)

Thanks for postin the vid, it took me about 30 min to get it done. I've got wireless tether, lamppu (led flashlight), and drocap installed and all working great.

What's causing some people to be able to do it and some to not? I got as far as the adb shell loop and after about 5 attempts with 3 different SD cards, it was a fail. :( I'm going to re-download everything and try it again tonight. Wish me luck...

FWIW, the instructions get a little convoluted because he shows two different methods and he's on a time limit. I found myself mixing up the instructions more than once. I am not criticizing the video, just making an observation. I think that's why some folks aren't getting it. Keep trying. Just watch carefully and rewind a lot.

I've tried every video and thread posted on xda multiply with 3 different sdcards and nothing has worked so I guess I'll wait for a new method.

Seen a couple of post saying their getting closer to another way just hope its true.

i'm really hoping, because i've all but given up on the current method.

i say this every day, but when i wake up, i inevitably try a couple more times :p

hopefully they don't brick too many more incredibles trying to access the nand :(

Crazy so many are having issues! Worked for me first time. I just wish I would have know to remove CityId while in adb. Tried using Terminal Emulator as well as Root Explorer to no avail. I guess this ROOT is still too new and the apps arent compatible with the Inc yet.

Anyone else have any luck removing preloaded programs other than in adb?

I just realized that Market no longer works after Root. I read something somewhere regarding this issue but I cant seem to find it for the life of me. Can anyone shed any light on this or point me in the right direction to a fix?

TIA :D

UPDATE

I cleared cache and FC Market in Manage Applications and that seemed to do the trick.

they don't work because as of now we only have system access while in recovery, so you can remove it if you boot back into recovery and get adb to run again.

once they get nand access, then it's really on.

Thanks for the explanation. I figured that was the case. I guess I'll just wait. Im sure it wont be that much longer.
