I rooted, new rom, new kernel....now what?

I took the plunge to the dark side today and rooted my phone. I then got the nerve and flashed Virtuous 3.2. Then I got really wild and flashed Lou's #8. Everything seems to be working correctly as far as I can tell. Tomorrow will be the first full day with the new setup. I am anxious to see how battery life is with the new setup. A couple of questions I have for the experts are:

1. Do I need to mess with changing the radio to improve battery life and/or reception?
2. Do I need to install/use SetCPU or CPU Tuner to help conserve and get maximum battery life?
3. Since I have already gone this far, are there any other recommendations to further hack my phone and maximize battery life?

Thanks in advance
Bryan

If you change the radio, be careful, and follow ALL directions. Took me several weeks to build up the nerve to do it. Upstreammiami helped with it. I have to say I really like the 11.19 evo radio. However it is no magic bullet saving me a huge battery amount. It actually just gives me good reception on phone calls with low signal, and improved 3g speed when I have a good signal. As far as battery, Setcpu has helped. If you use the phone, you're going to drain the battery. Period. Its how it works. What I have found is it's the times NOT using the phone that I can save the most battery.....if that makes sense.

The phone searching for a signal, and checking in with the tower (i.e. cell standy) is what uses a lot of juice for me. I have setcpu and when the phone is idle or screen is off, my clockspeed drops waaaaayyyyyy down. This has helped me save about 10%-20% during the work day. Enough to make it late into the night when I get home.

I don't understand wiping the battery and how to do it? What will it do for my phone?

Thanks,
Bryan

You don't wipe the battery per say, you are deleting the Battery Stats file. This gives the device an opportunity to rebuild stats on battery usage quicker with a new kernel then it normally would by having to evaluate current usage against historical usage.

You can delete the Battery Stats in Clockwork Recovery under Advanced -> Wipe Battery Stats

You can read more technical info about this here:

This thread was written before Clockwork had the Wipe Battery Stat's feature so you don't have to worry about manually deleting the file like it say's in the OP of the thread.

Hope this helps!
