I think there will be no Nexus 6 event

Also, Google wants to maintain a neutral status without favoritism with all of its OEM partners. It would be difficult to heavily promote the nexus 6 without a common perception coming about that Google is saying Motorola makes the best android devices.

I don't think Google is trying to stay as neutral as they have in the past anymore... This may just be the start of the Android Silver program we heard about and then kind of faded out... Maybe they just call it the Nexus program and we will start seeing more Nexus this and that phones from different MFG's on Google play......

I don't think they are out to dominate the market for Phablets or be an Apple who sells 10 million devices the first weekend... But I also don't think they are too afraid to upset the other OEM's as before.. Samsung has been toying with their own OS with Tizen.... They've already put in some more restrictive wording in the Android contract to make Google apps more up front and center and forcing anyone who uses Android to put their competing apps in the back ground (At least up front)

Android has been "Free" because Google makes their money on search, ad and services they offer... but these other OEM's have taken advantage of that and tried to push their own apps and services over the Google stuff... So why would Google who has more than enough revenue, profits and cash on hand... Worry about upsetting people who've been trying to make money behind Google's back? or create their own software (Tizen) to replace Android on their devices? or competing services to replace the Google ones???

The neutrality I intended too reference was from a marketing support perspective. I think they would love to support the device, and withhold not be in the least surprised if they offered some sort of matching funds incentive to carriers to advertise the product.

The way they keep OEM's producing android products is through a well supported and updated license-free OS that does permit then some level of customization, albeit some restrictions apply. Ads specifically by Google emphasizing just one Android smartphone product would I imply that Google itself is saying that's the best smartphone for Android, and while they wouldn't bear issue with people independently reaching that conclusion, or 3rd parties (carriers) promoting them, it's not something Google want to put out there directly itself.

I think they will leave the marketing to the carriers to push the device... At least for now... Yeah it will pop up in your Google search results off to the side from time to time after it's officially on sale (Hopefully here soon)

It's still technically a Motorola phone... Developed by Google but Motorola is the MFG.... Just throwing the Nexus name on another MFG product.... if they would have kept Moto and not sold them off it would be very different.... but it's very clear that was a patent grab and they had no real intentions of being in the Hardware game (Probably a great move by Google)

And unlike the Nexus 4 & 5, Google isn't cutting the price so low on the Nexus 6, so there's not so much of lack of profitability on the device vs Play store pricing to disincentivize the carriers from promoting the. It'll be interesting to see if any of them start to actively advertise it (perhaps not to the degree they promote the classic 'big dogs' like Samsung's galaxy series or Apple's iPhones, but possibly in line with what they do for other devices). It'll all come down to the relative degree (if any) Google commits advertising dollars to the carriers in relation to the standard OEM market budgets allotted them.

I think Google is leaning more towards carriers subsidizing and locking people up on new contract this go around.... Start making some money on the devices........ I think they did a good job of creating a seriously premium device (at least on paper and from pictures.. Won't know until people start getting and using them)

Even after with the N4 and N5 they TRIED to push people away from contracts... Just how we roll in America (or most of us... I like being out of contract on a prepaid plan)
