I think those who had Note 7s should have 1st dibs for the Note 8 w/ their carriers

Re: So For All Those Contractually Locked In...

And as far as adding another 30 bucks a month to your phone bill, it might not make a difference for you, but I've seen it up close make a difference for many. I'm blessed where that would never been the case, but I'm also an adult and don't have time to raise my bills any higher than I would like them when I can make a purchase for something one time then and there.

Lol not sure what being an adult has to do with it. I am an adult to :P.

I guess I just don't see the being okay w/ 2 year but not phone payments. I get not wanting to do it as I have bought many phones in the past at full retail to just do as you said -- one and done. There are just times where I wanted a phone and did payments and just paid it off over 3-4 months just to avoid the whole bulk sale.. basically make the carrier finance it for me at 0% and just use it to my advantage .

Being an adult, for me, has to a lot do with it in fiscal responsibility aspect. I wasn't aware if you were an adult or not. I was just speaking for me. LoL

You seem to be stuck on this two year part of this convo when the reality is, it's not relevant outside of my current S7Trash.

And I get that you want to finance your phone. I just don't. Never will. It's not a car. If I can't afford for it at that moment, I'll pass....or save up.

I'm confused.
Your stuck in a two year contract and complaining, yet saying it's the best option (for you).

Maybe, as an adult, think of the long term, instead of short term satisfaction. I agree, having something paid off is great, but if it affects you in the future because you're stuck, it's not the best option.

My Note 5 should be paid off when the Note 8 is out, but normally I'm ok with swapping out. The Note 7 was a rare disaster and I usually don't have to worry about a spare. I have 2 old Droid phones (original and 3) gathering dust. So I will always swap. Although I may see how to keep my Note 5 (another just in case) and trade a junk prepaid phone.

To me it makes perfect sense to be on contract. The phone is a lot cheaper on contract and I would have stayed with the provider using the same plan regardless. A no-brainer, really.

I understand totally - that's why I bought mine outright. The difference between paying, for example - $130.00 a month for a plan for two years or $160.00 a month for a plan plus the phone for two years! If things get tight during a month or two, I'd much rather have the $130 than the $160 bill to pay! Is that clear enough?

The OP has an "amazing" job and doesn't have to worry about having an off month with finances.

I have an amazing job. But why would I do that when my job has put me in a blessed position to swipe my card once, and call it a day?

Re: So For All Those Contractually Locked In...

I owned my Note 7 outright and I own my current S7 Active outright - NO contracts any more with AT&T! When the Note 8 is available in AT&T Stores and I can put one in my hand and actually check it out against the S8+ and the new S8 Active (if it ever comes out), then I'll make a decision and probably buy one outright - I've had the money put away since about 2 months after they took away my "Replacement" Note 7, wishing and hoping something was going to happen soon!!! Right!

That's exactly what I would be doing, putting the money aside. I wasn't able to before, but I'm just gonna sit it aside in the next few weeks so I can just go in and do my thing.

1. Yeah, I'm "stuck", but i wasn't complaining. I was making a clear observation about how I can't upgrade now. Doesn't matter anyway because no matter what I'm paying for it outright now. And yeah, it was the best option for me, wasn't trying to confuse anyone, because I wasn't trying to convince anyone. LoL

2. Maybe as an adult, we can agree that my choices make the best sense for me, and it WAS a decision I made thinking of the long term. I can't speak for you, but as an adult, I don't make decisions lightly.

3. See.....yeah. I personally don't want to be stuck paying off a phone....like I explained in subsequent post. I'm good. That's not my bag. I have better things to do with my finances that have them tied up in that manner. As far as having a phone for swap, I didn't have one...so it made my situation a bit more precarious. But it's cool. I'm content with the S7Trash until Note 8 preorders since I have no other choice.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know why this is such a struggle for folks to understand today. It's so simple. if you want your bill to be higher until you pay your stuff off, then be my guest. That's your life and money. I personally don't want to go that route. And yes, I've always liked 2 years after that because I haven't switched carriers in 13 years. They always made sense for me and my plans. So simple. So clear. LoL

Re: So For All Those Contractually Locked In...

If you decide you want to get a Note 8, are you willing to buy it via cold sale (full retail value)? I'm personally locked into a 2 year contract with my S7Trash so that's the only way I can get the phone without opening a new line. I'm going to, but just wanted to know how some of you feel out there. Do you feel it's worth it? Or are you happy with whatever you had to swap back to until a later time?

Also, is it financially worth it to you? I'd love to hear the thoughts of the folks having to go that route to get theirs. I know I can't be alone. LoL

And even though I know they won't, I wish they had some type of discount or priority for the old N7 users.

Signed,

Someone who's really tempted to activate their N7 back on their account right now.
I'm so glad there isn't a discount. With the full refunds + free extra stuff, Samsung already made it more than right with 99% of their customers.

I sure do have an amazing job, and I'm blessed to have it. Your point? Because I clearly don't see why you felt the need to quote that line in particular. Don't mince my words, because I wasn't bragging, I'm blessed and truly humbled to have this job now, and I won't let it be devalued by your blatant sarcasm. Thanks.

And no matter how much one makes, you ALWAYS have to worry about an off month. It's called having a contingency and being fiscally responsible. An adult. At least that's the definition for me.

Re: So For All Those Contractually Locked In...

Because I had no other choice at the time to do that, and it was cheaper. And the phone was terrible, but I didn't realize how much of a piece of trash it was until after purchase. So yeah...there's that.

And besides, it's nothing to just buy the phone retail. I don't believe in leasing or installment paying.
There are dozens of devices to choose among. The S7 was hardly the only device out there.

Re: So For All Those Contractually Locked In...

Is it too late to return the Note 7? Why wasn't it returned?

Can I ask you why you're so glad? I'm only asking because it didn't go that smoothly for everyone. As a matter of fact, the transition was pretty rough...myself included. I've since shrugged it off, but it would go a long way to say sorry imho.

So yea, why are you specifically glad? That confuses me a bit.

Because Samsung went way out of their way to make it right with the vast majority of consumers and it is strange that some people feel entitled to take even more from Samsung.

I agree with this. I believe that Samsung wants the Note 7 to be a "case closed" type of thing especially when it comes to consumers. With the Note 8 on the horizon, the last thing Samsung do is offer some official program that reminds everyone how they messed up.

Not to mention all the double and triple dippers who got bonus items on their 1st and 2nd Note 7s, then on their S7s and S7edges when they "settled" for a discount. I'm not insinuating this was everyone, but it was posted about enough to realize alot of people were milking the situation.

The Note 7 is in the rear view...quickly fading away.

Re: T think those who had Note 7s should have 1st dibs for the Note 8 w/ their carriers

The discount could be given by the carrier's, but that wouldn't hurt Samsung's bottom line. They need to be taught a lesson, and money is the ONLY thing that they care about. Hurt them in the pocketbook, and then they'll listen to their "loyal" consumers.

If I recall correctly, carriers offered $25-$75 bill credits for those who had the "Note 7 experience".

The defect was 100% Samsung's fault and completely out of the carriers' control. Perhaps those bill credits were offered because it was a logistical nightmare and warranted a return trip to the store, but it's been settled.

Heck, even people were able to get notations/comments on their account to get a discounted S8/S8+. That time has come and gone now.

Sorry for the inconvenience, there were plenty of gestures and methods of compensation doled out during and immediately after the recall. Life goes on and its back to business for the carriers and Samsung.

If some people feel like they haven't been compensated or even acknowledged enough by Samsung to maintain brand loyalty, there's Google, HTC, LG, Motorola, Huawei, One Plus, and a few others waiting for their business.
