I thought Thunderbolt had 8 GB Internal Storage

Just to explain something here. I have the Motorola Atrix it has 16gb internal storage, after the operating system and all of the apps pre installed, it leaves me with 10gb of space.

I came from an Incredible that had 8GB internal storage that was available and mounted as removable media when plugged into the computer.

Incredible: ROM: 512MB, RAM: 512MB DDR, 8GB internal memory
Thunderbolt: 8GB eMMC - "VZW Quotes: internal storage", 768 MB RAM

It's crazy to see how the Incredible ran on 512MB ROM, while the TB is using up a HUGE amount of storage.

we should flood verizon tech support till the issue an OTA update that removes all that garbage.

LOL I like that idea. That will get their attention.

Also Tech support said if the OTA doesn't fix this issue then Verizon will have to replace all Thunderbolts.

lawsuits are a waste of time, they result in very little return for the affected customers. What you should do and it will cost you little more than your time. File a complaint with the FTC and FCC over this. Between the two you will be covered. It is false advertising, and while I do agree it has become common place in the PC computing world, it has not in the smartphone market where available memory is key. In fact I bet a number of buyers bought the TB based on 8GB of memory thinking hey it's like the Droid X where I get ALL of the memory.

Me personally I will file a complaint and move on, time spent, but I will also root, remove the f-in bloatware and gain a little more room back (for kicks) and still not have it affect my life.

With that said, have a great evening.

if I knew how to root and delete them I would do it

but regardless, I shouldn't have to do something that voids my warranty to remove garbage put on the device that I do not want.

I am on the phone with VZW tech support right now, will update as the call progresses.

so far the rep is saying that I should be able to delete them, he doesn't know why the "uninstall" button is grayed out, and he is transferring me to tier 2 support..

Regardless of this being software bug reporting possibly incorrectly. All Verizon needs and they have on their website is this line to cover there butt:
Memory / Processor

* 8GB eMMC
* 768 MB RAM
* Actual formatted capacity will be less
So best of luck trying to start a lawsuit with that line right there, as it could show any ammount of space less then 8GB left and they are still covered.

Though I do expect a pretty significant software update in next 30 days to address these known issues. Was defiantly funny seeing people post exact same information from Verizon website but repeatedly leave out that last line.

will be less and 75% less are two completely different things

with that logic they could said the sd card is 128gb actual might be less

I am not in favor of lawsuit so i agree with you there.

But I don't agree that they are covered. When you have 8 GB of internal storage, Actual available is less because you need some space to format the file system. So usually about 90% is available. There is no way in this world they can prove where did the ~5 GB go.

Verizon knows about this issue. and they will have a fix via OTA.

Omg, you guys that say the system is taking 5 plus gig then calling the op ignorant? Wow....just wow. Thanks for letting me know iPhones aren't the only ones with fanbois. You did see there is a system dump right? It's a little over 200 meg I think. Anyway op is correct and I hope this is something that is fixed because Im looking hard at this phone.

this is complete bull****

all the apps they put on there cost money

they are pretty much saying: either pay money to use these apps that you may or may not want, or we are going to hold 75% of your internal storage hostage

Well just got off the phone with Tier 2 tech support and we all know how much in the know they are at times. Said this is not a "Known" issue in there database at this time but more then likely is just displaying incorrectly and they have had that happen with other parts of Android / Sense so expect a software update to correct it. If there is and issue so who knows again they have no clue and to just give it time to get figured out.
