I want a Nexus But i got a Razr in the mail today

Thought i'd drop by with an opinion on the Razr now the GNex is out and i've had a little play with it whilst still renting the Razr.

I have time to read all the posts on the Gnex which i find useful and obviously have a good amount of time to make a decision.

My initial impressions of the Razr are leading me to think right now that i might keep it or if the Maxx Razr comes out in Jan, get that instead

Battery life is ok, its not 24 hrs but i'm getting around 12hours for how i use it which i think is ok. Theres no 4G up near the artic circle yet but to be honest with the way this thing moves i wouldn't want 4G anyway, its superfast on 3G for what i use it for.

The battery charges very quickly too which i like.

The ability to hide bloatware apps is good although now i've put my ADW EX back on, they have re-appeared.

The Motorola car dock is the best i've seen and with the way that the Razr supports that car dock with its on screen tasks is excellent. I love the dock and the GNex will have to have one at least equal for me to switch but as well as that, i'll want to see the software options i have currently with the Razr when using it. You can also use a Otterbox case with the dock

The sound on the Razr is great esp with headphones watching a Netflix. I was on the treadmill in the gym watching a thriller and i heard a sound in my left ear like someone was calling me and damnit, i turned round before realising it was the film on the phone.

So i'm still up in the air on this and will be watching all the tech vids on the GNex and ICS as they come out continuing to read whats posted here while i think about it, but right now today i'm thinking i may go with the updated Razr Maxx in Jan. I like this phone. :)

If the choice is a toss up then it shouldn't be much of a choice at all. It puzzles me that someone would pick the phone that ISN'T optimized for the new OS and new standard for Android, when they can buy the Nexus that is....? If you really don't like the Nexus and love the Razr then fine but... I guess I just can't understand

.... not to mentio who knows when the Razr will even get ICS. The Nexus is having issues so imagine what they will run into putting it on other devices, potentially not good.

Because you know the nexus is plastic and well the moto has kevlar, and all that other marketing hooplah and they all buy into it. Everyone says moto phones are so good but I had the droid 2,droid x and also know others with moto phones and they all seem to have just as many issues as other phones. Maybe I just base things off of experience rather than what some people on sites say? I went with the nexus but for me it was about updates. i got tired of waiting months and months for simple bug fixes from moto, samsung, htc. Yeah the nexus may not be super break neck cutting edge specs but for me it does what I need it to do. It is a phone I do not need a quad core since I have a tablet and a xbox to play real graphic intensive games on.

Skins cause even more bugs than are already on the OS. I mean look at the last update to the bionic that came out and how many bugs it addressed, a lot of them being with signal and things key to the phone. It wasn't like it came out right away either, people were stuck waiting 2+ months for something that should have been addressed from the start. I think that is something google needs to crack down on with manufacturers.

to tide me over using the extended VZW returns policy which i heard from my VZW person was now extended to 15th Jan and i have the email to confirm that. So i have a nice Otterbox case from Amazon that will get returned to them as an unwanted gift the middle of Jan and a Razr that will go back also once i've read the reviews over the coming weeks to see if the Nexus really is the phone i've been waiting for since getting my original droid. Got $50 off the Razr too so thats saved me some money on the $35 restock fee later on.. I'm pretty happy right now

I walked into Verizon yesterday with my Razr and receipt in hand fully prepared to exchange it for text GN. After side by side comparisons of features, speed tests, videos, etc, I walked out with my Razr and a brand new case for it.

Yeah, i played with the GNex for maybe 35min. I didn't see anything right there that made me go WOW

the batt cover of the nexus is really pretty poor

So you take it off all the time that it matters? I can see complaining about the phone being plastic but the battery cover? At least with me it comes off maybe 10 times throughout the life of the phone. Now if you are taking it off all the time maybe that would effect it but in all honesty you most likely aren't and are grasping at straws here. It is ok stick with the Razr, choice is a good thing and that is what android is all about.

I walked into Verizon yesterday with my RAZR and receipt in hand fully prepared to exchange it for a GN, and that's exactly what I did. After having a Droid X, no way am I going to deal with another Motorola phone that has an encrypted bootloader and a skinned version of Android.

I haven't looked back for a second. So far, the Galaxy Nexus is proving itself to be the superior device.

There are definitely some strong points with the Razr.....I loved the screen on it and the general shape of it but I hated its main selling point...it being thin....it was just too thin for me. Also, the Razr took horrible indoor pictures. I couldn't get a clear one to save my life. IMO, the GN has a much better camera. As far as screens go, I personally like the Razr more than the Rezound. I'm still on the fence when comparing it to the GN because when I bought it the Verizon rep offered to put an antiglare/protector on it and it really cuts down on how nice the screen looks. The GN feels so much better in my hand. The Razr didn't seem to have as many bugs as the GN but the few I've encountered are very minor. The volume situation with the current GN is a bit of an annoyance. I'm hoping they will fix this soon. The only other issue with the GN for me is how its very hard to get many bars on 4G. I live right in the middle of a nice 4G zone and my GN just shows 1 bar. So, I'm thinking / hoping that its just a minor design flaw that can be fixed with an update because connection-wise its really fast.

That's similar to how it was with the Droid X update to Gingerbread. Not only did it take forever (and it still got Gingerbread before almost all other non-Nexus phones), but the update was also very buggy for many people.

not grasping at straws at all. I'll probably use 2 batteries which will mean that the cover will come off a few times.

a case on the razr fattens it up. The pics i've got from mine indoors using Vignette have been excellent

Hmm, except for a lousy 4G radio? ;)

Really? I think the Galaxy Nexus's pictures are pretty bad. I'd have paid an extra $50 if that's what it took to get a top of the line camera in this phone.

The charge cover is pretty flimsy too and I took that thing off almost everyday for spare battery install.
The covers Sammy uses are very durable plastic so me no worry.

I was meaning that I think its better at shooting pictures indoors compared to the Razr. I took a lot of shots with the Razr and all the ones outdoors come out nice but every indoor one I tried came out blurry....even with flash. I'm still tinkering with the camera though.
