I Wish I Didn't Have To Use A Case

The Note 8 felt better in my opinion. But anyway, there's some days I go without a case. I have a Squaretrade warranty and it seems to be the best option nowadays. plus, I'm very careful with my phones. I can't believe I see so many cracked screens when see other people's phones. Smartphones have never been cheap to purchase, so I've always been very mindful of how and when I handle mine.

Have you used Squaretrade before? I've thought about using them, but the reviews seem mixed. Some people swear by them, but others have had nothing but bad experiences. How much is your plan and deductible?

To be honest, I think most of us get cases because of other people and not us. I actually never understood the reasoning to not have a case being because we are so careful with the phone. Shoot, I totally trust myself in handling the phone - it's other people that I can't predict. It could be someone accidentally bumping into me.. it could be an unexpected jostle on the bus/train. It could be your best friend that you let make a phone call. It could be your mom as you hand over your phone so she can talk to your sister. LOL - It's factors that are beyond our control that we all get cases for - really not so much for us.

That's one of the reasons that I always tell people to use their OWN phone.... No breaking or data privacy or settings changed issues, if people need to dial 911 they can do so even without a sim card inserted on any phone less than 5 years old

This ^

I've never thought about that before and your spot on.

I have the blue S-View flip cover on my Note. I have gotten a lot of compliments about the case and the phone (not that I am seeking attention for it).

The last few flagships I had a string of bad luck lately where I'm forced to use a case. I'm not a fan of them.

I've gotten in a habit of taking the case off when I'm at home so the other day I had to go out and for some reason I couldn't find the case for my OnePlus 6.

I went out and on my way home on the driveway it fell out of my pocket thinking (wasn't really) it fell under the seat but it was something else.

So I go out and my OnePlus 6 hits the ground the corner nicked up.

As they shot **** happens.

I've owned about 20 smartphones. I've dropped every single one. The good thing is that my note 8 survived several drops with only a slim TPU case and no screen protector. They are getting more durable.

Get this case and screen protector and don't give someone $300 over the course of 2 years (not to mention $100 deductible). It feels pretty close to naked.

I've always wondered why people look at the month too month average of cell phone insurance from a carrier and scoff at the deductible, yet will gladly pay 100s and 100s of dollars for car insurance, or even the deductible for a car could be 100s if not thousands.

I don't personally know of anyone who "gladly" pays for car insurance. The difference is car insurance is required and phone insurance is optional. Most people keep their vehicles longer than their phones and pay much, much more for them, so car insurance is protecting a much more expensive and more long term investment.

Not only that...In addition on AVERAGE everyone loses money on any kind of insurance. The insurance companies ensure that they charge enough and have high enough deductibles to ensure they are making a profit. It would make financial sense to self insure if you could and keep the profit for yourself. Most people are not in a position where they could self insure for car insurance. They could not afford lawsuits or medical bills stemming from a catastrophic accident, so you need car insurance. Many (most?) people can afford to self insure for phone insurance, so buying phone insurance does not make financial sense for most people.

The last phone I ran without a case was my LG V10, and only because it was built like a tank. After that I used Wallet Flip cases but I got tired of them and with my iPhone X and Pixel 2XL started using clear TPU cases. In 6 years I only dropped my phone once and that was fumbling around with Android Pay. I went the first few days case-less with my Note 9 and dropped it 3 times. Thankfully it was on carpet or linoleum. Needless to say, I now have a VRS Slim clear TPU. I've dropped it once since then too. I don't know what it is about this phone lol

Cases are like condoms, they serve a purpose but never feel as good....

Depends on the person. I never buy insurance for my own phones. I did but it for my ex gf's phone when we were together. She dropped her phone...a lot.

And I agree that they set rates and deductibles to make money. If they didn't, they wouldn't be in business very long.
