I would love to help build, BUT I dont know the first thing about it. I can root, flash roms and do all that basic stuff. I have no idea where to start when it comes to building. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would def be in.

Yes I'm the same way but I really would like to become a developer

I assume it is extremely time consuming.
The amount of computing space you need just to compile it all is enough to run a small country for 6 weeks. :p

For the pros and cons at CM, they said it will be at least January, so that is something to look forward to after the holidays.

Patience, grasshopper.

I personally DO NOT want ICS on the Optimus for myself. And it doesnt take that long to compile... someone is making it sound like its more than it really is.... But either way, yes its is time consuming. Just nothing like that timeframe....

Re: Ice Cream Sandwhich to Optimus S?

I'm downloading the source right now, but I think I'm far from capable enough to figure out the steps necessary to compile for the Optimus S. If anyone wants to give any pointers, I'm all ears.

I'd have to agree. There are supposedly devs compiling on netbooks. I'm sure it goes slow, but it's not an impossible feat. I am curious why you don't want ICS on the Optimus, assuming it runs smoothly.

I personally dont want it because the Optimus S is not my daily driver. I mean it would be sick, but it doesnt help me out any lol. Im willing to help out but it doesnt make my day... ya dig?

I dig. I thought you meant you didn't want it at all, but if you're rocking an evo 3D, I can understand.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwhich to Optimus S?

You can play around with this. IceS1.zip . It boots and you can play around with the system. Port of a port from the zte blade ICS by Sweattami. I just tossed in the CM7 boot.img to get it to work and a few build prop edits. Nothing really works at this moment. No phone, data, wifi , camera. Touchscreen and mouse pointer are slow response and laggy. Navigation sucks, so you will need to tap with two fingers. Still needs alot of work, but it would be better to wait for a real build for our phones.

Nandroid your current setup, so you can try this and go back to your current setup.
Wipe data, boot, system, cache. Then flash in recovery.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwhich to Optimus S?

They're working on a build from source here.

What's "better" building from source or porting from another release?
It appears that xda-dev is more focused on the Optimus V. If they're successful with AOSP, will it be useable on an Optimus S?

Sorry for the questions, but I'm kind of clueless and you seem like a friendly bunch. I was able to do a standard make for ICS and was able to sort of kind of compile for armv6, but I'm stumped as to where and how to place the necessary lg files.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwhich to Optimus S?

If they can get it working on the V, then yes... It will need to be tweaked but not by much. IF they get it then yes we could def get it going for u guys.

Not to argue but with the fact that we can't even compile cm7 for the ZVH baseband anymore the above is no guarantee that ICS working on the V will actually port to the S for all users, cm7 compiles for ZVD just fine so those users I expect yes, for the rest of us. Perhaps, perhaps not.

Is ICS going to make our OS some kind of super phone? Going from froyo to gingerbread really wasn't like night and day for me and I really don't see what all the fuss over ICS is all about.
