So what is the little compass looking icon at the top of the display, and why is is always on?

Thanks

It's the location icon, if it has little bars next to it then apps will try to use your location, if it's just the "compass" icon then only 911 will. If you go into Settings > Location and change the setting, you'll notice the signal bars on the side change.

The GPS icon looks like a little satellite dish and only pops up when an app is actively using GPS.

I believe what you're describing is the Location Setting On/Off Icon in the Status Bar. Page 25 & 26 of the Incredible User Manual pdf describes phone status and notification icons. Google search, Free HTC Droid Incredible user manual download.

Thanks ic3po. I just got the manual. Why doesn't anything come with a manual anymore? All you get is some watered down user guide, that really doesn't explain s#!t.

I think it saves the company money in printing costs. But I personally prefer a physical manual. Imagine needing to find something in the digital manual, only for your battery to die on you! Embarrassing, I would think.

This forum has been my manual.....type in the search what you want to do...and poof, there it is.
