ICS Leak questions

I'm almost to the point of throwing this thing against a wall because of the continued data connection loss. I've waited patiently and have researched how to install the leak but have read different comments all over the net about things not working after update like camera, contacts, etc. Some say it's the best thing they've ever done simple and fixed all the same problems I'm having. First question is why the data loss and is this just a bionic thing? My wife is on my old X2 3G and isn't experiencing this problem. Second has this leak given any of you problems?

I'm a tech savvy guy I work on computers for a living I've just never messed with phones but never needed to until now. I like my bionic but I'm tired of hitting refresh or waiting on it to REconnect. Thanks in advance for your comments

Yes it's 905 update... I had the same problem and after a week I said to heck with it.

Get ics 232 nothing higher and you can get back to 905 to get the official ics update.

All there is to it is boot in to recovery

Powered off Push vol up vol down and power at the same time.

Choose recovery the when you see the broken android dude push vol up and vol down at the same time just choose the ics 232 file through fast boot and 30 min later you have ics.

I have been using it for a month now and it's way better than gb.

So just go for it...

I concur with Narok... I was at the same point last week and bit the bullet to upgrade to ICS .232 leak and the phone is like BRAND NEW! It fixed the data connection/hand off issue completely. The interface is much, much faster as well.

There's NO app/data loss if you do the ICS .232 leak install. Everything will stay the same. Just download the ICS .232 leak .zip file and follow Narok's instructions and in about 10mins, your phone will be on ICS!

I want to flash too but I had a bad experience when I rooted and froze too many apps...got stuck in bootloop hell

One question I have: like NickACS, I flashed .232 last week (for the same reason the OP is thinking about it: the data drops). I really like it, but will be going back to .905 when the OTA is announced. Am I going to lose all the customization I've worked on since flashing when I do this (SmartActions, folder locations, etc..)? If so, I'm going to stop messing around with it, so I don't have to do it twice.

If you do a full flash back to 905, you will lose all of the customizations you've done to 232.

Could you possibly provide a link to the correct zip I need. I understand and believe I can do the install but there are so many different downloads I want to make sure I have the right one.

Those taking the plunge to 232 and then worrying about data/app loss when the ota comes out should know there is a solution. I wrote a program called the house of Bionic that allows you to move from one build to another with no data loss. So when the ota arrives it can be used to install it without losing anything. The catch is that you won't get the build pushed to you ota, but instead will prepare the phone for the update and will then reboot into recovery to flash it as you're doing to install 232. Anyway it's another tool in the arsenal for those that want to keep their data when the ota is released.

Just to point out, as well, that you can set up the House of Bionic now and do the 232 install from 905 using the INSTALL 232 option. It will push the 232 update to your phone, flash everything that's required to stock (no data loss, however) (EDIT: Or if you're stock 905 you can skip step 2 and 3...the ONLY time I'll tell you it's allowed to skip a step! :D), and walk you through installing the 232 update in recovery. I tried to make it pretty painless. To do this you'd need the HoB installer, components installer, and the 232 update installer. All linked to in my thread.

I was thinking of maybe just taking the leak plunge for the heck of it, but I had several questions about the procedure even after reading that HoB thread. I've never done anything like this on a phone, so I needed some clarification on some things, and other stuff I didn't even understand the terminology of. So I think yeah, just staying stock because this doesn't seem very straight forward to a relative noob.

Set your phone to 3g only mode and it should eliminate most of your data dropping issues......no phone will ever be perfect but that is what I did before I flashed an ics leak.....worked great....

I'm with you Mooncatt. I was looking at the 232 only because it sounds like it's gonna be a while. After reading everything it takes to get back to ota I'm just going to hold off. We can look at ICS as an early Chirstmas gift.

How is this done? Sorry for all the noob questions I've just never had to do anything with a phone.

From home screen, menu > settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks > network mode > select CDMA only. From what I hear, this setting is removed in ics, but you should be able to get a 4G LTE switch app in the market to still do this in case you need to.

Since you're rooted and I have no experience with rooting, I'll defer to others on that part of your question. Aside from that, my experience has been great, with a few minor exceptions: my Lotus Notes Traveler widget does not always update automatically. Also, a few things seem to make the device stutter a bit. I have a suspicion that this may be due to the fact that I did not do a factor reset before flashing the leak. I'm going to try that and see if that cleans things up. These are minor matters, though, and I'm really liking .232. My only regret is having to set everything up again (e.g. Smart Actions) once I do the OTA.

Ics 232 fixed my dropped data, but my battery life is a little worse. Fair trade I suppose

I gave up waiting and took the plunge with my unrooted bionic (stock. 905) with.ics..232...
I was pleased to see that i havent lost my data. It took several reboots and patience to get it fully functional with wifi and 4g service. It is indeed like a new phone. I am cheering at the fact with the smart action app I can finally change my wallpaper to my favorite pics of my new puppy! Yes it sounds silly coming from a big guy like me but my bionic kept reverting back to the damn red wallpaper no matter what i did and after nearly a year I got sick of it. Lol. :D

Well now Verizon and Moto pushed it back to Q4
And after running to the Verizon store the guy behind the counter said the Bionic isn't on their list of ics updates of Q4.
At this point I think I'm going to take my chances, and get the ics leak, and hope the rumer of no OTA update isn't true.

I'll let you all know how it went, or ask questions if I run into any problem.

Thanks to all the knowledgable people who made this thread.
