If It's The 24th, Isn't It Time For An Announcement And Preorders?

before the iphone, did VZW ever have preordering before? It seems to me like VZW never really announced release dates very much before, and I definitely don't ever remember them going so far as to announcing a date plus allow for pre-ordering...

Droid Incredible had a pre-order.

Yes they have always had release dates and pre orders. It just does not happen that often and it seems like most of them were HTC devices

good to know. since I wasn't up for upgrade didn't pay much attention to the releases. now that I'm waiting for this one, its killing me though!

have the rumored release dates of any of the other LTE phones been changing any? I settled on the TB because it seemed like the Revolution and Bionic wouldn't be out till summer. Now it seems like those will be ready sooner??

This has got to be the most botched phone release by them to date. The fact that the i-bore had so much info available weeks in advance and the TB being their first flagship phone on their shinny new network with not a zip mentioned publically is highly suspect. I wonder if Jobs put a gag order on the big Red during the 1st 2 weeks of the i-bore's release? That may explain why they are leaving us all in the dark about it. IDK, but from all the sites and forums i've been in, the TB has to be the most sought-after device to drop on the market and the one with the most people pissed off about the lack of information on the phone. IMO, that January 6th anouncement date came waaaaay too early.

Agreed. The whole thing is being handled pretty badly, I have been part of multiple launches for videogames, systems and phones, never been part of one like this.. Sigh, haha

The only people who really know about this phone or any of the other forthcoming devices are those of us who monitor these forums. I chastised my brother-in-law last week for getting an iPhone4. He said he was told it was 4G and had no idea about new Android devices.

PWNED!

I often wonder what the Verizon brass think when they read these forums. Do you think the discuss what we talk about here in there meetings? Looks like we are driving the public nuts, thats just we want a frenzy.

I doubt they read these forums.

I think they have an understanding of what goes on here. Is the CEO? No. Is some product/marketing guys? Yes.

Probably the copier guy. I doubt any high management even has the shred of idea that this forum even exists. They simply have too much to do. BUT... That would be awesome if they actually do. Get to know the consumers for real and see what we REALLY want. I'd enjoy that very much :)

High ups I am sure they only think of this as a 'blog' site but rest assured, product and marketing folks check these places out.

If there's one thing that drives me bonkers about Verizon, it's the way they handle phone releases like this. They make no official announcements or nothing, then suddenly they announce the phone like the day before it releases.

They did it with the Droid 2 and that played a part in me going to Sprint and getting the Epic 4G, which was available for preorder many weeks in advance, perhaps a month if I remember correctly.

They handled the iPhone launch well though, perhaps...er, probably that's why they've been quiet regarding the Thunderbolt. From a business standpoint, can't say I really blame'em. Then again, it looks like AT&T might be looking to take advantage with the rumored 22nd launch date for the Atrix.

They handled it well because Apple told them how it was going to go.

If you go to this link a BB employee posted a picture of his terminal which shows an in stock date of the 21st for the TB:

Best Buy Details - Android Forums

so I would say its on track to be sold on the 24th.

I usually don't so this, because it's borderline backseating, but you should stop posting this everywhere. It's just another rumor, and most everybody has seen it at this point.

I know this isn't the latest post of it, but I figured I would let my annoyance be known since I saw it here for, I think, the fourth time from you. :-\

Nothing personal or anything, but it doesn't need to be stated so many times. Especially since it's not new info to mostly anybody at this point.

ya and didnt someone post a screen shot showing a stock date pointing to it being on sale the 14th also?

well in stock doesnt have anything to do with when it goes on sale, just means its in the back room. also didnt htc say they will start to ship them out now. so obvious best buy cant get them in stock until htc ships them

They did indicate such a thing. It's very possible that Verizon is waiting until there is actually stock on hand (ie. on US shores, not necessarily in BB's) before announcing a release date. Would be kind of dumb to say the phone is available on x day but oh snap, all the phones won't be here till y. :P

yeah, im just praying for 24th is finally going to happen. with a 2nd best buy ad not stating pre order is a good sign. also i dropped my iphone3g an ever since my battery seems to not last very long. its dying, i need a new phone now

And now droidattic.com comes along and says it will be after the 24th. The one paragraph below is the entire article.

We have been playing around with the Thunderbolt release dates forever now, and it looks like the date just got pushed back past the most recent February 24th date floating around. We have VERY good info that this is true. We have it on good terms from one of our most reliable Best Buy contacts that on a conference call this morning the HTC Thunderbolt will NOT be making an appearance next week at Best Buy. It's sad news indeed, but we felt like everyone should know. According to our tipster it is because of production issues, nothing on Verizon or Best Buy's side of things. Anyone have some thoughts when we can expect this thing?

Could be true, but I don't believe any intel that comes from Best Buy. They know nothing except random dates that are entered in their systems arbitrarily.
