If there is no unlimited data

If 4G pricing is not unlimted will you still be getting the T-Bolt?

Hell, I'm not buying the Bolt unless I can keep my $10 unlimited data deal. That deal convinced me to finally jump into the smartphone waters. If the TB requires me to pay more or change that promotion, I'm buying the best 3G smartphone I can find that keeps my $10 promotion in tact. Which would suck, because I would probably make myself wait until the new ones come out. But who knows, X2, Incredible2/HD might be out before the TB at this rate!

30$ or bust. I'll take 5GB at 30$ at the bare minimum. I'll probably never use that or even half of that but I want the option. Maybe once or twice a month when on vacation and away from wifi I might need that much.

Of course if Netflix comes I might need unlimited depending on how much bandwidth it takes.

I would blow through 5gb like a knife through hot butter. I'm not about to bleed money to Verizon at their whim. The whole reason I wanted this thing was to drop my cable modem and tether my laptop and desktop to it.

Guaranteed deal breaker for me.

@Phantomog - 10 bucks for data?! Man that's a sweet deal. How did you get that?

It was some super secret targeted promotion (or something like that). But a lot of people called and got in on it. It was called "Talk and Text plus Data". With my corp discount I'm paying $160 after taxes for 3 lines with 1400 minutes and unlimited text and data on all lines. I'm waaay to cheap to pay $30 a month per line for data. I think its kind of stupid that you HAVE to have a data plan for all these great smartphones with WIFI built-in. Why can't I just restrict my data usage to WiFi only? Big scam if you ask me....

Do you tether? I figure 5GB of 4G is good for me since 90% of the time I'm on wifi. But with LTE being so fast that might change my usage characteristics.

Well, I don't now, but the plan was to do that with this phone. I was even going to get rid of my cable modem.

This really screws up my plans if it comes to past. My town is on the list to get LTE in 2011.

Sure is.

You're talking about that promotion from last November aren't you?

I was thinking about calling that 877 number and seeing if I can weasel my way into that now. Doubt it will work but I've got to trim some fat. I'm paying $140 for unlimited everything right now.

If it would go to the tiered data plan fees, it may actually be in my favor since I do not currently have any data plan and I don't expect to have alot of data usage. That being said, if the minimum data plan required for the Bolt is over $30 p/mo, then I am pretty sure I will be looking at other VZW phone options (I really like the idea of the Merge with slider keyboard coming to VZW even though it is not 4G).

I'm not on Verizon at the moment, so keeping unlimited isn't an option for me, but I'm genuinely confused as to why people think that unlimited, or even 5GB, at $30 or less is even possible, much less expected, when Verizon introduces its new pricing structure. Current Verizon 3G unlimited is $30 -- why would they move to a tiered model with LTE and make it the same price? Given that AT&T's tiered pricing is $15 for 200MB, $25 for 2GB and $45 for 4GB, the responses here seem unduly optimistic -- or am I missing something?

Even if VZW doesn't change the pricing for data plans, tethering with the TB will still cost a minimum of $50.00/month. My ISP will provide a 4g/3g mobile hotspot for $50.00/month and unlimited bw. I may just start using my iPad (wi-fi) and a regular feature phone.

Realistically there's almost zero chance Verizon's going to give us unlimited LTE data at the same price as their current unlimited 3G data.I'm hoping for LTE tiered data plans with a throttle-back to EVDO Rev.A instead of per MB overage charges if we go over our LTE cap.

If you can please let us know. 10$ for unlim would make my month.

I wonder if the Bolt is going to rip through data any faster than other phones.

I definitely don't go over 5 GB/month on my OG Droid but that's because sometimes 3G can just take too long. Things like flash videos often aren't worth the trouble on the thing. I'm assuming the TBolt/LTE will be able to handle stuff like that a lot better, and I'd be more prone to using it. So I expect my data usage to go up. With apps like Skype and supposedly a Google cloud based music service or whatever it is, that may drive it up even more (although I really don't think I'll get too much use out of Skype). If it's over $30/month, it better include hotspot capabilities haha.

Not sure if anything's mentioned about this elsewhere (probably is, sorry), but if you sign a 1-year contract does that affect grandfathering in data plans at all? I'm considering, if they do offer $30 unlimited, locking it in right away with the thunderbolt, then possibly upgrading next year...

$30 or nada. No coverage for Indy until I have no idea. Come on VZW... we're hosting the damn Superbowl next year! Get ur act together!

Agreed, I can see them conveniently changing the rules once the new data plans are introduced.

Yup... just like how Sprint tacked on 10 bucks more on your plan when you ordered an Evo,even if you live in a non 4G area because it was a 4G phone.
Then 6 months later... The 10 dollar charge applied to all smart phones.

Those corporate dudes will get us some how.

Nope. I am 100% absolutely done with Verizon if they change it to anything other than $30 for unlimited. My contract is up and I'm going to Sprint.

It's absolutely idiotic and a sign that Verizon has gotten a little too big for their britches.

It's like being sold a Lamborghini with a governor installed that limits it to 50 miles per hour.

Hell yeah!

If Sprint had a 5GB cap in place? I would regularly have gone over it in about 2-3 weeks.

With all the stuff you can do with with these types of super phones?

An Unlimited(worry free) data plan should be a must!
At a reasonable price that is.

Phantomag,

I can tell you this from personal experience.3G speeds are ok.
However, 4G speeds are awesome!

As I stated in another post. For me it was like going from dial up
to broadband.

You can really tell the difference in how your phone performs.
For example surfing the net? Almost instant page loads, watching HD youtube videos with no buffer,downloading(2-3MB) apps in about 5 seconds. 3G will do it in about 20 seconds or more.

From what I hear? LTE will be much faster than WiMax?

The TB will be worth the wait!
I just hope the battery can keep up with you all?
:D

This was a limited time promotion that ended on 1/31/11. It's not available at this time.

Forgetful,

After I got my Evo, I used the free hotspot tethering

for only one laptop, friends phones.I did the nornal surfing the net(couple of hours a day), Sprint Tv,Youtube,
texting,some video chatting,GPS Navigation,facebook,etc.

I hit 9 GB of usage that month.

The second month(Sprint disabled the free Hot spot feature).
And after finding out more about what my Evo could do.

I downloaded the easy tether app instead and used that on my laptop and desktop.

Then I pretty much used my Evo all day and night.I couldn't put my Evo down even at work.
Streaming movies(Sprint TV),Channel surfing.net(sports video streaming),Youtube,Video chatting,Pandora all day long at work while surfing the net too(Ahh 4g), Sprint GPS Navigation(while driving), Golf GPS(drains your battery fast),facebook, twitter, texting, sending alot of photos. This second month I hit my record for data usage.
15 GB.

I now regularly average between 7-11GB a month .

So just be careful if Verizon doesn't offer an unlimited plan.

Because, you can burn through your data real fast. Remember, almost everything(except phone calls)that you will use your Thunderbolt for?
You will probably use data in some way or another?

I burn thorough a decent amount of data on wifi which I'm on all day aside from driving to and from work. I guess if someone doesn't have wifi I can see how it'd be very easy to eat up that much data. Tether must suck data, I don't tether so I don't have a clue. How's your battery on the EVO with that much use?
