If your Optimus V broke today...

If you don't mind me interrupting, what makes the Triumph such a bad phone?

A lot of quality control problems leading to random hardware failures. Broken GPS chips seem to be a particularly common issue. Although apparently it's quite a nice phone if you're lucky enough to get one that was put together correctly.

Funny that I started this topic and then 3 days later I start getting random reboots. Not sure why it started. But I wiped clean and reinstalled my favorite ROM (BACKside 1-03-12). Had a couple reboots again while using Navigation and Music. Bastard rebooted on me while I was in the middle of New Jersey on my way somewhere. I had to pull over and wait for the reboot to finish so I could put the GPS back on. Lol.

So I started thinking whether its simply time to move on from the OV. But its not an easy choice. There really are no no-brainer alternatives.

I was seriously considering giving the Triumph a shot. It can be had as low as 199, but that phone seems like such a crapshoot.

Then there's T-Mobile, but I'm not convinced that I'm not going to have coverage issues. Sprint native has proven itself in this regard. Its rare that I don't have signal/coverage where I work, live, and play.

Keeping my grandfathered $25 plan really is a motivator for staying with VM, but that means giving the Triumph a chance. There isn't a single other phone in VM's lineup that I'm even remotely interested in.

Oh what to do? For now I guess I'm stalling to see if my OV keeps rebooting.

First off don't do it! The triumph is exactly what you think it is crap. Get the evo, set it up and your good to go. I've done it and let me tell you it's cheaper better and has a good community. Plus the knowledge you'll gain will help you flash phones in the future that way you don't have to be on one of these major carriers paying out the ass.

On to other news so I successfully bricked my phone. i honestly didn't think it was possible but I did it in the easiest way possible. Just use erase_image to erase your recovery and boot image. I kinda regret it now but I got my evo so I'm good. I just wanted to see if it would work. Probably should made that bootloader so that my phone would be unbrickable but it is what it is. RIP optimus v 2011 -2012

Did you have a plan for what to do after erasing?

I was gonna keep doing stuff till I bricked it. Learn alot or lose alot. I don't know if you had read where I flashed the sprint cab files to get their radio. It turns out that it is the same radio as the optimus v but it flashes a new bootloader which restricts the user from accessing it via normal means and I've been able in the past to access it by erasing the boot and recovery image. I guess this time I went to far.

@pbailey212

thankyou she will be missed

I hope you are not going to chuck it in the trash. Is there a place you can send truly bricked phones?

I have a feeling the Evo cushions the blow, but still... It served you/us well.

I was thinking more of keeping it out of the landfill.

I thought I'd seen EBay sellers who buy bricked phones but I can't find any now.

I did find this guy on Craigslist.

Buying bricked phones/bad rom flashes

I know what you meant :) I can't sell it because I'm still using the esn and if they did use jtag to fix it they could have access to that and my mdn possibly. it's not worth the ten bucks I would get. Maybe I'll find something to do with it.

It donated it's mind to the Evo and it's body to science.
It just didn't expect to be given to a mad scientist. ;)

My suggestion would be to keep it for spare parts.... If you get another ov. As far as what I would do: get another ov. Seriously considering getting a backup ov now that zte seems to be the route. My other option would be a byod sim and unlocked phone for net10 since they're offering such now.

Wow - those phones look iike crap - what the heck are they thinking. I would take an OV over eitthr of thise things.

Well, the right one looks ok, the specs suck on both though. I would have to get another OV, because thats the only "great" phone that they came out with.

Back when I first got VM, I went cheap and got a LG Rumor Touch, it wasn't a "great phone" but it got the job done. Then when I saw the Triumph come out, I was like "awesome!!!!!", until I looked at the price. I wanted to stay with VM, but all the other phones (Intercept, Rumor 2) looked like they would suck just as much. But then I found the OV. Looked up everything there was to know (other than the Rooting/Rom stuff at the time) and it seemed like a decent phone. So I paid for it, and was just in love with it, until I got sick of the lack of space and just the sheer "stockness" of it, so I stumbled on to this lovely community, read everything (which is why there's no threads about rom maniger from me xD), rooted and rom'ed with Harmonia Froyo.

And now here we are, ICS'ed and making this 125-150$ phone seemingly the best phone out there since the Iphone came out. Thanks for everything you all have done for this little powerhouse of a smartphone.

We all appreciate your work ^^.

I would get another OV, the one I got now paid $66 on eBay for it and it has server me well. I did "F" it up within 3 weeks after rooting it not knowing what I was doing, and paid a gay to fix it. He told about this forum and said that if I read up on here, and be come a member then I would not have to pay someone to fix again. I have flashed it so many times playing with ROMS, and it is still going.

The ZTE are just sad, my neighbor has one, and it is just not built very well. She dropped it from the coach (18"), and the display is bleeding.

Like the phone so much that I'm going to get my mom one, and root and put what every ROM she would like on it.

i think i have to change my answer to "buy another OV". we literally went from 2 roms (Harmonia & IHO) to all of this (some still coming soon):

- Harmonia Froyo
- IHO (several different builds)
- CM9 (still in alpha status, most likely many different builds coming down the road)
- MIUI Port
- Lewa Port
- Sense Port (coming soon)
- New Stock Rom
- New Gingerbread Rom (coming soon)

i probably missed something. i'd say this phone still has about 1-2 years left of relevance before it's truly past its prime.

I've had 3 optimus v phones they have done me well even after all the wrecklessness I put them through. I bought my last one for $65 and my 1st one for $160 damn near $100 difference all cause they changes the screens hardware to the s. Without cm7 and all the legandary froyo roms this phone wouldn't of sold like it did in all we kinda kept VM in business. Then they now throttle our data cause sprint said so but why sprint already has their network unlimited why should we suffer when if u look at it closely were really sprint customers, I don't know if I'd buy one again

If mine died today, I'd have to get my old Boost Clutch turned back on until I could afford a new phone sometime next year.
