If your Optimus V broke today...

i hate to say it, but if my OV breaks, then i'm going to break the bank and get the Galaxy Nexus. the OV has been an awesome phone and Virgin has been great, but after seeing my friends' Nexus, i'm very jealous.

Wow - those phones look iike crap - what the heck are they thinking. I would take an OV over eitthr of thise things.

You just gotta wonder. That'll be four mediocre phones in a row. Preceded by the (somewhat debatable) failure called the Triumph. What the hell are they doing. I feel like we're getting back the classic Virgin Mobile that just carried bottom of the barrel phones (with the cheapest plans). I thought after the Triumph we'd be on to the glory days of VM, but lately it seems like the reign of the Optimus V IS the glory days.

I would be ed. I can't afford a new one atm but if it did break I would have to get a new one. My life is on this phone.

I just went from the Triumph back to the Optimus V - Amazon has the Optimus V for $95.

When the Triumph came out, I bought one and gave my original Optimus V to my wife. Unfortunately, my Triumph has the low headphone volume problem, and since one of my main uses is to listen to music, it has been driving me nuts the entire time. Also, the placement of the on/off button right across from the volume buttons, causing accidental presses to both, was also driving me crazy.

When I noticed the $95 price, and that I could get it shipped overnight for $4 (I have Amazon Prime), that's all it took. I put the Harmonia 2 version of the IHO ROM on it, and I'm happier than I've been in months.

So if either of our Optimus Vs were to break, I'd just buy another one.

If or when we lose the grandfathered $25/month rate, then I'll look at the $30/mo T-Mobile plan with an unlocked GSM phone, and get a real phone :-) Might do that this summer anyway.

I'm more and more convinced that Sprint is making VM the lowest of the low for prepaid (like it used to be). Unfortunately, I also think that is a big mistake.

I get it that VM wants to differentiate between Boost and VM, but the market has changed considerably in the last 6 months. T-mobile has 2 plans at $30, cheaper than VM, with much faster data, BYOD and better phones. If either of those plans fit you, you would almost be foolish to go with VM. Even if you don't want that, T-Mobile has some other good ones, and then there is Cricket.

VM isn't the only low end option anymore. You don't have to settle for crap phones and crap speeds anymore, yet they seem determined to stay the course.

On the other hand...
The Epic is coming to Sprint Prepaid, and so is 4G. In fact, 4g will be offered in several places by mid year! That being the case, they will have to release some 4g phones. As for the Epic, Unless something changes, I doubt it will be VM that gets it, it goes better with Boosts lineup than VM's. If that is what happens, I wouldn't put it past them to offer the Iphone 4 or 4s to Boost as well once the Iphone 5 is released. This keeps those people on Boost, but tethered to 3g speeds.

A bit of digging shows ZTE just showed off a few 4g cdma phones with ICS. Care to bet this is what VM will offer.

I was just taking a look at the T-Mobile prepaid plans, and gawd do they look appetizing. 30 bucks a month for the same I'm getting from VM now? AND 4g data? Only 100 minutes, but I never use my phone to call people, who does anymore... And you can bring your own phone? What phones are eligible?

I might be switching sooner then I thought...

However, if VM might get those ICS phones, I might stay. Those things are pretty nice. Course we probably won't get them until 2014, but who knows.
Tapatalkin it from my IHO CM7.2'd, MIUI Themed Optimus V

Considering I have an LG Flare laying around, I would use that for a couple months either waiting for the Triumph to go down in price or something awesome to be released :).

Sprint says we will have limited 4g by middle of this year. They have ZERO 4g phones and I don't think the new 600 phones will do 4g, even if they do, 600mhz renders so slow that it won't be much faster at browsing.

On the other hand, the specs on those are nice compared to an OV, but need I remind you of the Triumph? People drooled over that as well.

Triumph was $150 somewhere over the weekend, and somewhere for $220 yesterday, so they can be found cheap.

Virgin gives a one year warrenty on thier phones if purchased from an authorized retailer. They cover everything even broken screens from pressure. It can even be rooted and rom'd. Just be honest with them

why are people hating on the ov VM isnt a bad carrier IMHO we geet good data 300 mins is sufficant for an average user and texting is okay and the OV is an awesome phonewith a great community and helpful people if my ov broke i would buy 2 OVs one for my use one for a spare

To a point Cammykool, I agree.
The plan is actually quite good, but some need more minutes, some need more data. For me, the plan is perfect, but I would like more speed like we used to get. On the other hand, while the OV is a great little phone, it doesn't hold a candle to my Evo, which is now a 2 year old model.

Now look at what VM is offering.
Optimus V
Intercept - junk
Wildfire - smaller Optimus V with Sense.
Slider - a slightly upgraded Optimus V with a keyboard
Triumph - good specs, junk phone.

Now they are bringing two more Optimus clones from ZTE. 600 mhz processors are 3 years old at this point, it's time to move on.

Go look at the phones on offer from every other carrier. Almost every one of them has retired 600mhz phones and that screen size. Triumph should be a $150 phone (it would be free, plus a $50 gift card on post-paid). Case in point, the Optimus Black on Boost, why does that cost as much as the Triumph? Which would you honestly rather have? No question in my mind. VM's phone line up is so far behind, it doesn't even register on the low-end scale anymore.

And then there is the data speeds.
It seems 380-550k is about average, often for Sprint users as well. I haven't heard of any other carrier being that low. Even T-mobiles prepaid is at least 1.2meg on average, usually closer to 1.8-2.3 meg.

You aren't paying much, but you also aren't getting given much either.
Virgin used to be a leader in pre-paid, being the first to do a lot of things as well as a a fantastic deal, not so much anymore. They haven't really done anything innovative at all lately. Seems they would rather send out surveys than new products or plans.

600mHz may be slow but we have ICS on our little phones before anyonw else and for the clock spped it runs VERY smoothly and sprint has the S another 600 MHZ phone thats still being sold and is popular so your right its an old clock speed but it doesnt make it a bad phone

before i had my OVi was on boost with the prevail and they are stuill just getting there first roms and its older then trhe ov with an 800 mHz processer

Since Sprint bought VM?
