I'm a total Nexus S fanboy. Ask away

Hi, thanks for all the info.

I just got my Nexus S 4G a week ago.. but the low volume is driving me nuts. I don't feel comfortable enough yet to root the phone. Is there another solution or an app/widget you can recommend to increase the native volume setting? Thank you!

Is a known issue... please let your voice be heard where it counts by posting a complaint on the Google Support Forum, hopefully they will address this if enough of us post there.

Gmail question. I would like my Gmail inbox on my phone to be able to view all of my inbox messages like my web version but I can't seem to keep them all viewing no matter how I set up the inbox folder sync settings?

I'm a new Nexus S 4g user and I downloaded a crappy app that killed my camera. Now whenever I take a pic, it flashes and then phone freezes. Can't even hold on/off button. Have to pull the battery.

So I'm doing my first reset and worried about losing all my apps. Is there some way to store them in the cloud (I know total newbie questions).. or am I ****ed? Thank god my contacts are already in gmail. Thank for your help!

If you simply uninstall that app, you should be back to normal - then what I would do is reboot - everything should be ok then.

I am currently with Verizon with the Samsung Fascinate. I read an article recently that said I could get myself out of my contract with Verizon. Anywho, in reading about the Nexus S, there have been complaints about reception issues. My in laws are all on Sprint and whenever we go outside our general area where we live and/or camping, (we live rurally) they don't have the strong reception like I do with Verizon. Is it worth leaving Verizon to have the Nexus S even with bad reception?

If you have weak reception in your area and or areas where you frequent, having the best phone in the world is useless.

Why people pick the phone first and the reception coverage second is beyond me. Thats like saying you want this wonderful sports car or what ever of your dreams that runs on gasoline, but the fuel stations around you only carry diesel and coconut oil. It simply doesn't make sense, but that just me.

Nope. This is a strange problem. Reset everything back to factory settings. Phone still works. But same problem. Just pressing the camera button, it will flash like it's taking a pic and then become completely non-responsive. Only way to fix it is to remove the battery.

I wonder how the chase software could have affected the camera in this way that even a complete factory reset doesn't solve the camera problem.. It seems like it is an issue with the phone itself and the buggy software just brought out the flaw... What do you think?

I would call Sprint - they might tell you that you need a new phone and or need to exchange it. That is especially if you did a hard reset and it does not fix your problem.

Really weird that I came across this post. I ordered a Seido extended battery...its the 1750mah one. Anyhow, I noticed that whenever I take a picture exactly what you described (word for word) happens to me. Phone goes black, completely unresponsive and I have to pull the battery. I tried a few different variables but have only been able to recreate this error with the Seido battery. I ended up sending it back and ordered a back up Samsung 1440mah - I have had 0 issues with it. Are you by chance running a non OEM battery?

wow.. i wonder if that's the issue..

but yes, i have upgraded to that exact battery from sedio..

although i haven't had this problem until yesterday.

oh now that i think about it.. ok so i posted about the app problem causing it here: chase app

after doing two hard resets, nothing worked. then i remembered to put the original battery back in as i was planning on taking it back to the Sprint store. tried the camera one last time, it worked fine. put the seidio battery back in and now the camera works just fine.

so i think maybe the original battery may have reset the problem caused by the seidio battery. i wish i had put the battery back in BEFORE i had wiped my entire phone. :(

but at least it seems like we may have come across the culprit or at least narrowed it down.

Oh it is without any doubt the battery. I tried everything and narrowed it down to that sucker... WARNING - there is no fix. It will happen again as long as you use that battery. Just take it back and save yourself the trouble.

well i have only had the problem once, although admittedly it's a serious problem if none of your buttons will turn the phone back on.. but i hear ya. having your phone completely shut down sucks.. decisions decisions..

did yours not work right out of the box? or did it take awhile?

I didn't notice it for 2 days because I didn't use the flash on my camera. Turn your flash on with the battery and take a picture. The camera works as long as there is no flash. Otherwise, CRASH!! :p

i can get it work with the flash. i just tried it. but i have it set to auto.. is yours set to manual flash all the time?

No, I just brought it in the bathroom and shut the door. And it crashed EVERY TIME except for once. Hey - if it works for you that's great! But, for me, even if the problem was intermittent...I wouldn't deal with it. The last thing I would want is to have my phone crash as I am trying to take a picture of George Clooney eating at Chili's. :D

For what it's worth, I've given up on third party batteries BUT Seidio was always very very very good about doing exchanges or returns when problems like this come up.

haha yeah .. well sorry to hear about that. at least we narrowed it down. i'm going to post a review and contact seidio. hopefully they fix the problem and then you'll be in a position to demand a free new battery for your trouble.

Quick question...are you using a custom kernel or stock?

I don't even try to hide the fact that I'm a fanboy of the highest caliber when it comes to the Nexus S. Sprint and I parted ways a while back when I finally got some choice in 3G providers in my area, and I thought nothing could replace my lowly Hero -- but the Nexus S does it. Feels good man.

Anyhoo, I've been using one since 10 minutes after my local Best buy doors opened on launch day, so fire away with mundane questions (tech stuff might differ slightly between my GSM version and the Sprint version, but not too much) and I'll do my best to answer them.

And welcome to the best phone currently available on any platform, or any carrier.
How do I delete deleted email on this phone?

You still using this device even after you get your pick of the newest phones currently out?

Okay. I have searched for an answer to finding the apk. for the touchwiz task manager? I want to know if it's available and if it will work on My Sprint Nexus S ? I don't miss my Epic but I do miss that app. It was simple and easy.
Thanks

Is there an app or anything I can use to give contacts specific ringtone when they text & not just when they call?

Is there a way for me to take screen shots w/out rooting my phone & not paying 4.99 for an app?

Also have a Nexus S, is there any way to put it in USB gadget mode without adding a driver and rebuilding the kernel?

thanks
