I'm calling it

This is the same old fight between the same handful of people as all the other threads here. In case you all missed it, it's not the phone that's dead, it's this forum. It just doesn't know it yet.

You can root and ICS the Rezound too. That doesn't make it interesting or current

No, what makes the Rezound bland is their community. A whole lot of little kids that ran off all the good developers. They better count themselves lucky that Protekk decided to overlook that and come back.

Please explain.

FWIW, i just did a full wipe and clean install of the latest AOKP. from start to finish (including re-doing all my app backups, wipe, flash, titanium restore, home screen setup, and ROM setup) it took me 33 minutes. that is with 83 apps and 4 system app restores as well.

OK, I am looking into this again. How can I do a Titanium backup the first time? I have the full version key that I bought my last time through this process a couple of years ago, but it is a root app, and if I recall, I have to wipe in the first place to get root. Do a use another backup service the first time that will back up all my apps, with their internal customizations and settings?

I know that with my Droid, the first time through took about four hours. If I can do it now in under 40 minutes, I would give it a shot.

i see both sides of the coin..

I think google has failed by letting VZ stall the updates to their flagship device. Google made the update and gave it to their G2M versions in a decent amount of time. but VZ blocked the release likely because they dont want the load on their servers or testers for such a small upgrade. VZ is the evil one but Google let their device get neglected. I flashed the 4.04 and am loving it but i think at best, doing so is a work around. I shouldn't have to make excuses for my phone in order to compare it to iphones. It should work, as intended, out of the box. I took matters into my own hands and am SOO glad I did but I think that that shouldnt be my responsibility, it should be the manufacturers and googles. VZW should have zero say in when an update gets released just like they have no say with the iphone.

Google obviously is making moves to prevent this from happening again by acquiring Motorola and giving the nexus to several carriers next time around. Google is likely extremely unhappy with how this was handled but due to fragmentation and offering too many devices, VZW was able to use their power to get what they want. Apple on the other hand sets the rules for their products and VZW bends over and says thank you sir may I have another.

There's also a deodexed version of the OTA in our development subforum for those wanting a pure stock experience.

True.

I feel that one of Android's biggest advantages is that the code is out there. If you have the savvy to come on here, then I think that you should at least consider flashing these updates yourself, as it takes almost no prior knowledge of computers to do so, what with the great guides out there.

Another point of interest I see a lot of people thinking incorrectly of: The reason your OTA has not been pushed yet is because Verizon has not completed testing (whether that be original testing, soak-test, whatever). There is NO other reason. They are not sitting on it to hurt you, or hurt Google, or just to make you squirm, or because the Men in Black told them to, or because of not wanting to deal with the tech support (can't believe that was actually suggested), or ANY OTHER REASON than the fact that they are not finished testing. Yes they're slow.. but there is no conspiracy, people.

I just want to say people on this forum need to realize that not everybody wants to root there phone. On the other hand people that bought this device need to realize that that when they bought it they bought a device that ran on Verizon's network. Unfortunately Verizon has a history of extremely slow updates. I have had 4 android devices on Verizon and all 4 times I had to update the phone myself. Either with Rom or leaked OTA. Last night I finally was able to root my Nexus after having issues rooting it for weeks. The process was actually pretty easy I was just stupid and didn't realize I was putting in the wrong command. Anyway my point is unless you buy an unlocked Nexus directly from Google we are at the mercy of the carriers unless we take things in our own hands. Especially a CDMA carrier.

Does anyone have an answer to my backup question? What can I use to backup my apps, data and settings BEFORE I go through the root process? Since Titanium requires root, that won't work. What does everyone use the first time through? I have no desire to reinstall and reconfigure each of my apps separately and all of my settings if I do decide to root.

How To Back Up Apps and Data from Your Galaxy Nexus

There ya go; that should make a complete backup. For me personally, I just slid my photos and stuff over to my Mac. I didn't particularly care about app data or anything, so I can't personally help ya there.

i disagree. I think they have another motive for not pushing the update. I think it some how is against their business interests to push it out for some reason. Why? your guess is as good as mine. Google has already tested this update and pushed it to their phones. I don't think VZ is just really getting down and dirty with their quality control.

Yeah but this occurs with not just the Verizon GN, but with pretty much ANY Verizon Android device. If they have a motive, then that motive must be equally applicable to each Android device on the network.

I believe Jerry posted something about the delayed update. I think he said it has everything to do with the Qualcom lte software.

I love to speculate, because everybody could be right and everybody could be wrong. :)

Maybe Verizon is unable/unwilling to deal with the support calls when an update comes out so they are the last on-board to make sure there are fewer problems..?
It is frustrating though, but, on the other hand, at least we can easily root/unroot and do it ourselves. The only sticking point I have is when a device is not working properly, it would be nice to have the latest "official" software to be sure.

And you understand that this is rubbish right? Thats just pure speculation based on nothing. They are slow damn testers, always have been... but thats it. If you really want to go on believing there's any deeper conspiracy than that.. then, well, what can I do..lol.

meh,

This phone is unique in that is also is supposed to get update pushes directly from google which has turned out not to be the case. VZW is controlling it so google cant run wild with updates and take the control and focus away from their Droid brand. There is a struggle for less carrier involvement and more control from the OEM and OS developers which is why google is releasing the next nexus on multiple carriers at once and not supporting CDMA. They want to take the power away form VZ as they have a strangle hold on their devices due to their network and want to move to a more European carrier type model where you can use unlocked devices on several carriers.
