I used the auto-root method on my Thunderbolt using the MR1 auto root, everything seems to have worked, I did follow intructions step by step! I have been reading through these Rooting, Roms and Hacks threads for the last couple of days, but I still dont know if I get it all. My first question is:
Can I install the MR2 update now?
Do i install the same way now that I am rooted? Load the zip file on the root of the SD card, HBoot and load it?
I also downloaded BAMF 2.1, I can follow the intructions for loading that ROM, but does it include a Radio that I should use instead of MR2? As a novice that uses the Thunderbolt as a crucial tool for business, is the BAMF 2.1 rom stable enough? Pardon all of the questions, but I just need some clarity!

Thanks,

Can I install the MR2 update now? yes
Do i install the same way now that I am rooted? Load the zip file on the root of the SD card, HBoot and load it? download the file, place on root of sd card, make sure it's called "PG05IMG.zip" flash it in hboot, allow the phone to boot up, then remove it from the sd card (or rename it) or else your phone will keep looking for it when you boot up

I also downloaded BAMF 2.1, I can follow the intructions for loading that ROM, but does it include a Radio that I should use instead of MR2? i'm on 2.1Remix running the MR2 and it works just fine. any GB ROM requires a GB radio. if you flash back to a Froyo ROM then you need to flash a Froyo Radio. no need to flash a new radio if you flash from one GB ROM to another GB ROM. only flash a new radio when you go from one version of the OS to a different one
A ROM will never, if ever, include a Radio file in the flashable zip. there should be a link to download the MR2. download it & flash it along with the 2.1 ROM.

be sure you check your MD5Sum on any download (ROM, Radio, etc) to ensure you have a full-proper download. if you flash a ROM/RADIO that's incomplete/bad download--it can bork your phone and you'll be wondering what went wrong. take 5 seconds and check the MD5Sum.
don't know how? check MD5Sum with an app called "Hash Droid" (open app> hash file> navigate to file>compare the string) or Astro File Manager (long press file>properties>MD5Sum>compare the string)

As a novice that uses the Thunderbolt as a crucial tool for business, is the BAMF 2.1 rom stable enough? it's more than stable enough & was good when i was using it (before the Remix came out)
any problems were mostly because people didn't completely data wipe/dalvik wipe/factory-reset before installing the ROM. to be safe, i wipe all 3 each 3 times before flashing a new ROM. since all of the GB ROM's are each developers own code, they will all have little downfalls. these are addressed via patches, flashing different kernels, and just general hacks (ie don't sync HTCPeep/Twitter if X error shows up). any error you encounter has most likely been encountered before. simply search on the ROM thread @ XDA or here and someone has posted about it before you.
.

Pardon all of the questions, but I just need some clarity!

Thanks,

Before anything--create a backup! back up your system now! don't flash any ROM or anything before backing up your current Stock Froyo system. your backup will NOT, however, include your Froyo radio. if you need to flash back to this Froyo backup, you can easily do so via ClockworkModRecovery. but in order to make calls/receive texts on the Froyo back up then you need to flash a Froyo Radio again.
**this backup will be your saving grace if you flash something and it doesn't play nice with your system. especially if you try flashing a GB ROM and it keeps you in a boot loop. you can simply boot into recovery, load your Froyo backup, and go from there.

we all started somewhere, and we're all still learning. i've still got more to learn but what i know i'll gladly share : )

and as always, if any bit erroneous, please correct :)

Hey, thanks a lot for the quick response. So to check the MD5, I need to place the radio file on the SD card and then download Hash Droid or Astro Filemanager before I install it? No way to check it on my PC first? The issue I have is, I cannot get the T-Bolt to show up in My Computer as a drive, so, I am removing the SD card and using an adaptor to place the files there.

you can check it on the computer, you just have to download another pc-program for it.
it's easier on the phone---it can be anywhere on the phone when you check the md5sum, it just has to be on the root of the card when you want to flash it.
for the pc, view this thread & download the program
for the HashDroid App, click here to go to the market link
compare the MD5Sum provided by the ROMcreator or Radio file download site to the MD5Sum shown in the app.

phone not showing up===this can happen after you immediately root/flash a new kernel/ROM
potential solutions==hit "internet pass through" mode and allow the drivers to install, then switch to 'disk drive'
this has worked for lots of people, myself included

if you check it on your cpu there is a chance it could become corrupted in the transfer from cpu to phone. (like a bad transfer)

As far as moving files around, you might want to just get dropbox.

Thanks again, I have the MR2 radio loaded and Das Bamf 2.1 is installed, I even installed a VVM patch which give me a different look than I had before, I think I like it, however, it fails to download messages properly, I see the contacts listed and the date/time of the message, just cannot listen to it. I have rebooted twice and fixed permissions, any thoughts?
