Im up and running on Sprint

Did you have to commit to a term agreement to activate (I am assuming you got your phone via the Google Play store)?

Nope. I could have activated it myself from my sprint account but I just had them do it there so we could test signal. I was the only person in the store picking up LTE so N5 must have a decent radio. Also, yes I purchased from the play store. They pulled an old Sim card from an HTC one..?

I called today, they told me they couldn't activate until the phone launched on the network on Friday.

Yup... I just left a Sprint store where I was for nearly an hour and they said they can't activate it until November 8... Sprints official announcement was they would allow the unlocked version but they never said WHEN they would allow them to be activated... The store manager (and it was a Sprint owned repair store) said Sprint is not going to let anyone use the phone on their network before they "Officially" launch it on Friday.... The SIM card needed they gave me one free of charge but all that does is allow you to connect to LTE service NOT phone or text service..... I'll try and call and see what they say that route but it does look like if your on Sprint you'll have to wait until Friday..I did do a chat session and told that person I would just cancel my service and switch to another carrier and they told me to go ahead that was an option. and I thought Sprint customer service was starting to get BETTER????

That's crazy. I guess that guy was wrong about me being able to activate from the website because I just logged into my account and it shows unknown device for my phone. That sucks guys, sorry to hear that.

Well I have not given up yet.... lol.... Harassing telesales now.... What version did you have? I have the 32 gig and I know Sprint will only carry the 16 gig.. They were telling me the serial number was blocked for Sprint so I wonder if 16/32 has anything to do with it????

Joyce K.: I am sorry that we cannot activate the Nexus 5 on your account as the ESN has not been updated on the server.
You: Okay so you announce you'll allow this device on your network and then I get the device and you can't activate?
Joyce K.: I can escalate the issue to the technical team to get the ESN updated and then the device can be activated.
You: Yes please do that
Joyce K.: This will take 3-5 working days to be resolved.
You: 3 - 5 working days??? really?
Joyce K.: Yes.

I've got the 16gb. Obviously the phones can be added so they're blowing smoke up ..

They are having tech support call me shortly on my home line.... They are now saying that it has to be taken to a Sprint store and the phone has to be registered and then it can be activated. I was in the store and they said it couldn't be activated until November 8... Ugh... See what the tech rep has to say...

So glad I'm done with cdma now.

I am out of contract so I am seriously thinking it's time to drop Sprint... They've gotten pretty good in my area for coverage and their price was always good but this might be the nail in the coffin for them... Outrageous they can't activate a phone they said they would honor publicly on the 31st..

Great, this don't sound good. I'll have my phone at 9am tomorrow. But I'm going to be pissed if the sprint store don't want to activate it.

They are telling me it is a 16/32 gig issues.. the 16 gig phones are loaded and they are starting to get a lot of 32 gig request and those are NOT loaded in their system... Might be tomorrow before they can activate the 32 gig phones.....

Well...its sprint what do you expect? Lol

No point of hassling customer service when you already know the drill.

This is the first time Sprint has offered such a device on their network. Obviously there are going to be snags as they get everything sorted out. If it gets to be Thursday or Friday and they still can't activate devices bought in the play store, then start to get angry. For now I would cut them some slack. They could have easily pulled a VZW and not supported it at all, so I give them some credit.

Has anyone tried activating with Ting? I suppose I will need a sim card for LTE from Sprint, can I get one free from the store? I ordered a sim card from T-Mobile as well because I'm thinking of switching, but with my phone on its way tomorrow, I would like to activate it on Ting while I wait for my T-Mo sim.

*edit* Nevermind, I read all about it over on Ting's website. My phone will be in on Tuesday. Hopefully my T-Mo sim card also comes in so I can activate it.

We're pretty close to being able to ship out SIM cards. So far we have several dozen folks up and running with everything working. There are a few LTE issues that are dependent on Sprint's Network Vision upgrades, but other than that it's looking good.
