In a drawer...

Well, for about a week, my Note 8 has been in it's box and in my drawer. Mainly because I'm paranoid about dropping it and I can get a decent screen protector for less than 40/50 bucks. I've been using the smaller Pixel 2 and I have no desire to go back at this point. The Note 8 is a great phone but for work I need something less bulky and fragile :/

yeah so your not gonna use a phone cause it's too nice too use? buy a cover job done.

Lol. So you bought a phone. Knowing it's glass to be to scared to use it. And put a 1000 device in a drawer. Just return it or sell it then. Why keep it if your afraid to use it. I certainly don't baby my device and it works just fine. It's not broken or scratched up.

I stopped using screen protectors and will never use them again. I pay for insurance in case I break it. But I'm pretty good at taking care of my devices..

gotta love Sammy owners.
I'm assuming you are referring to the responses you have received. I think you can reasonably expect that you would get a similar response if you had posted this about any phone. I'm not sure what response you were expecting.

You knew it was large and made of glass and yet you bought it anyway knowing you needed a more durable or easy to handle phone. Now you have one in the Pixel. That's great. It's just a shame that you dropped money on a great phone that sits in drawer.

I think there is just some confusion on what you were looking by posting. If I'm the only one confused then I certainly apologize. Enjoy your Pixel. I really enjoyed it during the short time I had one.

There are a ton of cases and covers to put on your 950 dollar phone- why not at least try them? seems a small investment to take care of a larger investment.

This set is really no more/less fragile than any other phone I've owned. It is weird to hold at first- but I got used to it.

All that being said, I have no screen protector as well...most of the time not even a case.

I actually understand how you feel. I felt that way before buying, and at first once I did buy it. Now I'm much calmer about it. I've dropped it a few times indoors with no issue, but no other drops. that said, I tend to be careful with my devices. ymmv

Otao has a nice screen protector on Amazon for 15$ for those who want to go that route. Otherwise the note 8 screen imo has held up pretty good without having a protector for a month. These devices are made to be used

I would like to purchase your Note 8 for $50. It's $50 more towards your next phone! 8 is great, don't be late!

My screen protectors cost less than $20. I ruined one by putting on a really thin case that pushed it up allowing dust underneath and causing interference when touching the screen.
The 2nd cracked when I dropped the phone from waist high on concrete.
I'm on the 3rd now, no issues, but I can't use the ultra thin case.

paid very little for my screen protector. thought about a more expensive one, but no need. I'm happy and it fits well. isn't even the brand I meant to buy. it was a bit harder than the one I thought I was buying, but got it on, it sticks on the sides, and zero lifting. caveat emptor, I don't take mine out of my case often. someone who changes cases a lot might have a different experience.

The 8 is a nice device indeed but I’d not want to use it without a case and a screen protector that does interfere with touch sensitivity and the beauty of the display. I understand there are now screen protectors that meet those two simple requirements.

As far as the device being too nice to use? Bah...it’s just a phone. Take precautions and enjoy it.

I don't use the screen protectors either. I do use very good cases though and believe me, they have provided ideal protection. I'm also careful with the phone. I don't feel afraid though while using it - I definitly don't like handling it without a case though.

Is the Note 8 too fragile? Absolutely
I dropped and smashed mine in a decent Spigen case. It was a facedown drop onto uneven stones so it would have smashed any phone to be fair. I knew it was an overly fragile phone when I bought mine and the few times I tried using it naked to appreciate how absolutely gorgeous it is I nearly dropped it way too many times because it's basically a bar or wet soap to hold. I got a case for careless drops and I took out phone insurance to cover my investment. Thankfully when I dropped and smashed it I got it repaired and returned to me like new after a few weeks.
It's an awesome phone, enjoy it as it was meant to be. Just get a good case and insurance then you've nothing to worry about

Life is way too short, if you're young, you might not know it yet. Use the phone, put an ultra thin case on it, forgo the screen protector as Sammy went from a prefect flat screen to one with a beveled curve. Just be careful with it... or go full Otter box defender and waste the experience of a sleek, thin phone. As usual... YMMV... your choice OP.

It's funny you mention the OtterBox Defender. I bought that case on launch day to go with my Note 8. The case was so big and bulky that I never took the phone with me anywhere and just used it at home. Finally last week, I took off the case and have started to use the phone without a case.

I never once even had the motivation to buy a different case for this phone so caseless it is.
